StarLadder Project Manager Talks Chongqing Major

In an interview with Natus Vincere, Vladyslav Udovenko, StarLadder Project Manager, shared his thoughts on the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) system, but also talked about why StarLadder didn’t host a Major in the previous season and how it was decided to go to China this year for the second Major of the 2018-2019 pro circuit.

On running the Majors and Minors in pairs this season:

“I don’t see any problem in pairing a Minor with the Major following it, but I also do not see any problems with the last year’s system. The most important adjustment this year is the quantity. Ten tournaments per year are quite enough, and now at least we don’t have to hold four qualifiers in one week. The pairing, also, made the Minors a bit more interesting, as the winners advance to the Major.”

On why StarLadder didn’t host a Major in the past season

“We had a misunderstanding with Valve about the period for submitting the applications for Majors and Minors. When we sent our proposal, there were just five free weeks left and we were offered to host three minors. We didn’t want to be left out without any DPC tournaments, so we agreed to host those and we have no regret on doing so.”

On why is the StarLadder Major held in China

“We offered Valve three countries to choose from, and they chose China. Dota 2 starladder 2016 highlights news We don’t have any problems in holding tournaments in China from an organizational point of view, and therefore we have submitted China as one of the options.

We have been working with ImbaTV since January 2016, and in fact, this is a joint project. We have already divided the areas of responsibility for the tournament, and now each of the companies is preparing its own part of the job.”

On what are the main factors for the Chongqing Major to run smoothly and not become a Shanghai Major experience

“I think the problem of The Shanghai Major was the inexperience of the organizers and poor preparation for the tournament. We have already been working on this tournament (The Chongqing Major) for about a month now and we are trying to think through all the potential problems and the ways to solve them

In fact, everything is quite simple: we need reliable contractors for building the stage, good computers, two Internet service providers, a correct schedule (taking into account potential delays) and everything must be done by a large team of people so that a single person is not responsible for everything.

At the moment I am coordinating the preparation processes within StarLadder and communication with ImbaTV. At the major, I will most likely try to pay more attention to the Russian and English broadcasts and work with the teams.”

On the next two StarLadder Minors from this season

“At this moment, we are considering several options for the Minors, but most likely, at least one of them will be held in Kiev.”

The full interview in Russian can be found on the Na’Vi official website here.

    • Clicking enemy heroes will play the same sound as on enemy buildings, typically to announce the desire to attack.
  • Ctrl + Alt + Left Clicking on the minimap will alert your team by Link▶️ playing a different sound and showing an X on their minimap, generally indicating danger.

Drawing [ edit ]

Holding down both Ctrl and the left mouse button while moving your cursor over the minimap will draw lines on the minimap. These lines can be seen by all allied players, and their color corresponds to the color of the player. Lines will fade after a few seconds.

Console Commands [ edit ]

There are several console commands that can be used to modify the minimap in various ways to match an individual player’s preferences. Some of the commonly used ones are shown below.

Denying

Denying is the act of preventing enemy heroes from getting the last hit on a friendly unit by last hitting the unit oneself. Enemies earn reduced experience if the denied unit is not controlled by a player, and no experience if it is a player controlled unit. Enemies gain no gold from any denied unit. All allied units can be denied once they fall below a certain percentage of health: creeps, and non-hero units at 50%, heroes at 25%, and towers at 10%. However, heroes can only be denied under special circumstances. Illusions and couriers cannot be denied.

To deny a unit, an attack command has to be ordered on the unit. Unless the “Right-Click to Force Attack” option is enabled, right-clicking the unit does not work, since right-clicking allies gives a move order, not an attack order.

A creep is not considered denied if a neutral creep (e. g. Roshan) deals the finishing blow and thus will give full experience to the enemy heroes.

Contents

Denying units [ edit ]

Besides couriers, every non-hero unit can be denied, including creep-heroes. They can be denied once their health falls below 50%. Denying an allied, non-player-controlled unit (lane creeps which are not taken over by players) grants 40% of its experience bounty to enemies within the 1500 experience range, instead of 100%. The denying player also gains 20% of the creep’s gold bounty when denying. Denying a player-controlled unit grants 0% experience to the enemy, and also none to the denying team.

Especially in the laning phase, denying allied lane creeps is important to create a gold and experience advantage. It can lead to having a level advantage over the enemy, opening up a chance to get a kill on them. Gold-wise, it cripples the enemy’s farming, slowing them down significantly, if they depend on farming gold. Creeps should be denied whenever possible, although getting last hits should be prioritised. Denying creeps is also important to shift the creep equilibrium towards closer to the own tower and away from the enemy tower.

Player-controlled units can be denied as well, but unlike lane creeps, most summons expire after a while, so that their bounties can be “denied” in other ways than killing them manually with attacking. For many small summons, this does not make much of a difference, but can still be done when possible. Especially when having multiple units, they can be used to deny each other. Bigger summons, like Warlock’s Golem and Spirit Bear , should always be attempted to deny, since they usually have significant gold and experience bounties. Denying these units is an excellent way to prevent giving the enemy free gold and experience when the unit is unlikely to survive.

Denying towers [ edit ]

Towers may only be denied once they drop to 10% health and below, yielding half its gold bounty to the enemy team and half to the denying team. Denying a tower also prevents an enemy player from receiving the 150-250 bonus gold for the last-hit.

Denying heroes [ edit ]

Heroes can also be denied under specific circumstances. A denied hero prevents the enemy from gaining any experience or gold from the kill, but still loses gold upon death.

A hero under 25% health and under the effects of certain spells can be denied by an allied hero. The spells that allow denying allied heroes are:

During Supernova , Phoenix may be denied in a similar fashion if the sun is below 50% health.

It is possible to deny oneself (commit suicide) in a variety of ways:

It is also possible to deny allied heroes with some abilities:

  • Centaur Warrunner ‘s Retaliate fully works against allied attacks, resulting in a deny when its damage kills an ally.
  • Chen ‘s Holy Persuasion , Enchantress ‘ Enchant , Lifestealer ‘s Control and Helm of the Dominator ‘s Dominate can be used on an enemy ranged unit that has a projectile attack in flight, and results in the denial of an allied hero if the attack deals the finishing blow.
  • Oracle ‘s False Promise , if cast on an ally under the effect of an enemy Winter Wyvern ‘s Winter’s Curse that takes enough damage to die from allied heroes will be denied, rather than having the kill granted to Wyvern.

Dota 2: ESL One Birmingham Group Stage – Highlights

The group stage of ESL One Birmingham is a wrap and the playoffs for the tournament have already begun.

There were certainly some upsets and surprises, as our teams worked their way through a series of Bo2’s to determine the seeding for the main event. Vici Gaming and Evil Geniuses both secured top spot in the seeding during the groups. While yesterday we said goodbye to our bottom two teams from each group. Ninja in Pyjamas, Forward Gaming, Alliance, and Keen Gaming have all been eliminated.

If you missed out on the action of the last three days, we’ve pulled together a few of the highlights to get you up to speed.

Day 1

Day 1 Vici Gaming vs Team Liquid – Game One

Vici Gaming hit the ground running on day one. Their first game against Liquid was a blazing 22-minute stomp.

Things seemed fairly even as our teams pulled out of the laning phase. But Vici were planning to play this game aggressively. A mistake by Liquid initiating a fight at Vici’s shrine put them at a disadvantage that they never managed to recover from.

Vici exploited their advantage, and Ori had secured himself a rampage on Templar Assassin by 17-minutes.

It was the Io-Gyrocopter combination that gave Vici the decided advantage in this game. Paparazi was unstoppable on Gyro with Fade’s Io provided him with plenty of support to carry Vici’s game hard.

We’ve seen this combo used successfully at previous tournaments. With Io back in captain’s mode, Vici saw the opportunity to go for the quick kill. As the game reached 20 minutes, Vici Gaming had a comfortable 11k lead in the net worth and were pushing mid to take the rax and the game.

Group B: Team Secret vs PSG. LGD – Game Two

Things started out well for PSG. LGD in game one of their series against Team Secret. Both teams played a close game, and LGD came out on top.

But game two was a completely different story. It was obvious this was shaping up to be an interesting game from the draft. On the LGD side we saw Fy take Techies. While on Secret, Zai took Pudge.

Secret took the first blood down in bottom lane before the game reached 2 minutes. LGD had a difficult start to the game, with both Fy and Ame having to leave lanes and head to the jungle to try and farm. But Secret had no intention of dropping the pressure. Secret had secured themselves 4 kills in the first 4 minutes. The slaughter was just beginning.

Team Secret gave LGD a thorough beating. Ending the game in 35-minutes with 38 kills to LGD’s 12. A 26-kill lead over the Chinese team.

Nisha on Spectre was on fire this game, going 10/1/20. Ame’s Naga Siren just never got the chance to come online. The usually fierce carry ended the game 0/5/3.

Day 2

Group A; TNC. Predator vs OG – Game One

TNC’s opening series against OG on day two gave us a taste of what we could expect from the SEA team in the series to come.

They went 1-1 against OG in this series, but their performance in game one was nothing short of superb.

This game really showed how far TNC. Predator have come as a team since the start of this year. They had some beautiful rotations through the early game. Punishing aggression and overextension by OG in the laning phase and dominating control of the map. They had a clear lead by the 15-minute mark, with Armel’s Alchemist sitting on a comfortable 8/0/4 at this point.

TNC’s draft was designed to snowball and keep up a fast-paced aggression that would shut down OG’s cores. They executed it perfectly. Gabbi alone had 11 kills for his team before the game had reached 20 minutes.

Much like Vici’s opening game on day one, TNC played at a blazing pace, and closed this match out in just 22-minutes. Ending with 33-11 kills and a 20k net worth lead.

Group B: Keen Gaming vs Evil Geniuses – Game Two

Game one in the series between Keen and EG was a 44-minute back and forth affair. EG ended out coming on top, but Keen’s performance had made EG work for the win.

As the draft started for game two, it was obvious that EG was planning to dictate the pace. We saw Cr1t take Io, while Arteezy went carry Luna. Dota 2 top secret vs alliance highlights puzzle They took the first two kills of the game within the first two minutes. The SumaiL show was just beginning mid-lane.

By the time the game finished at 35-minutes, SumaiL was 15/4/6 on his Leshrac, securing almost half of his teams 32 kills across the game.

This marked the fourth 2-0 series for Evil Geniuses in the group stage. Their string of undefeated victories over day one and two ensuring them a safe spot in the playoffs.

Day 3

Group A: Ninjas in Pyjamas vs TNC. Predator – Game Two

After taking out game one in their series against NiP, TNC. Predator came into their second game looking for a fast win.

But with everything riding on the line for them, Ninjas in Pyjamas weren’t about to take the game lying down. The kills were 4-2 by five minutes, and NiP were in the lead. 33 had 21 denies on his Nature’s Prophet in the mid lane, making things very difficult for Armel’s Medusa. Dota 2 top secret vs alliance highlights puzzle

Things were looking very good for NiP through the early game. They had the gold advantage at 10-minutes, and it looked like they were on the way to securing the win. It all started to change as the game neared the 20-minute mark. Armel climbed to the top of the net worth, and once their Medusa was online TNC started pushing to take objectives.

The kills evened out at 25 minutes, but the net worth had begun to swing towards TNC’s advantage. They got 5 kills in the next minute and NiP fell just apart.

Kuku was merciless on his Batrider in these last six minutes. He ended up with a KDA of 9/2/12, while Gabbi’s Bristleback went 9/1/11.

TNC ended the game at 31 minutes with a 16-kill lead over NiP, going straight to a comfortable second place position in the playoffs.

Group B: Alliance vs Team Secret – Game One

It’s hard to overlook the final series between Alliance and Secret. Game one was a blistering back and forth that went for 85 minutes.

Secret ended the game with an 85k lead in the net worth. But things didn’t always look so clear cut during the match.

Alliance started out the first game strong, and initially had the lead over Secret during the laning phase. As the game approached its 30-minute mark, the tempo started to shift back towards Secret’s favour, and it seemed like they’d be closing things out soon.

But Alliance were able to repel multiple high-ground pushes, turn team fights and find excellent pick offs on Nisha’s Spectre to hold out against the offense from Secret.

As Midone cued up his double rapier, and with Yapzor’s Io dealing enough damage to clear lanes on his own, the writing looked to be on the wall for Alliance.

In the end, Secret’s push proved too powerful, and after 85 gruelling minutes, GG was finally called.

Secret took the second game in the series as well, ending their last group match against Alliance 2-0.

The playoffs continue today, and we’ll see Liquid and Gambit face off in the opening matches of the lower bracket, while Secret will battle it out against OG for a chance to progress to the next round.

You dont get it, you can wind up playing against a team of bots, when searching ranked games. and if you abandon these stupid games you get penalized, and you shouldnt.

If you think that players are bot-abusing then you can report them here:

Dear valve please answer the following:

1. Valve matchmaking system is broken. Avg 1/20 games are well matched, and 9/10 of those unmatched games could be evened by switching 1 or 2 players on each team. Apparently Valve Dota Developers are either:
a) too stupid to balance teams.
b) money grubbing ♥♥♥♥♥s that award players that pay money by putting them on winning teams in these unbalanced matches

2. Bots are ruining dota, on about 1 in 10 matches I run across enemy bot teams that do nothing but run to center of the map. People make these bot players to gain false MMR and screw up rank systems. I choose to abandon these matches, I should NOT be penalized. Valve Developers are:
a) too stupid to recognize bot teams ruining the game
b) too lazy to create a system to report these teams
c) don’t care about their screwed up ranking system (because they are money grubbing ♥♥♥♥♥s)

Exactly what sort of mlg360noscope pro players do you expect to be matched with in your current herald rank? And how is Valve supposed to fix the matchmaking system when you go 2/14/2 in your last game and your previous games are all pretty much equally bad? Do you think Valve should be matching you at an even lower rank/mmr than you currently are? Or are you just having a few bad games. In which case, how is matchmaking supposed to know when you’re having a “bad game?”

If you don’t like being matched with 4 random player and you think you’re better than your mmr/rank then I would suggest that you join or create your own party, stack it up as much as you want and can.

This whole mmr system is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It calculates some small amount of variables and makes teams.
for example, i have quite balanced W:L ratio.
More than 1000 games played.
Nearby 0.5, And yet, seems like, because of that, being pretty bad at dota, I am matched against people with much higher mmr in ranks than I am, or Russians. Or New Accounts with similar w:l ratio, like it’s the most important.
With a team of quite different people, skills, and everything is wrong.

Does anyone saw alghorythm of this MMR?

never did i say i want to be matched with players out of my league or be on winning side of these uneven matched games. here is a screen shot of their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ matchmaking system. I could give you 50 more like these if I bothered to screen shot every game.

I’ve been playing a few games lately, many of which have been rather one sided. Though recently, I’ve been running into my snowballing being stopped by some rather popular pub heroes.

So, today, I’m asking, who do you think are the best comeback heroes? I made a poll with 15 heroes on it:

On this list, I have a few heroes:

Zeus , one of the 2 meta heroes who can play multiple roles, this guy outputs so much damage its crazy, making him great ahead, but also a deadly high ground defense hero with his ult and arc lightning (especially since his passive deals percentage based damage). Zeus seems to be the hero that even when I snowball against him and I rush a Pipe, if he can still nuke down my allies, he still easily turns the game around.

Spectre , consistently the best pub carry because of how disgustingly well she scales with farm, and how much chaos she can create in a second with her ult. Spectre is the type of hero who can get back into the game with a good usage of her ult, and her late game is the consistently best of all heroes.

Medusa is the other hardest carry, scaling narrowly less than Spectre, but she can farm quickly and she can defend high ground, super creeps, and even megas with ease. Plus, she can punish you really hard for going on her with her stone gazes.

Chaos Knight is the third hero of a similar vein to the above 2, though its a bit earlier, and his item scaling is unbelievable for his ultimate. A CK with some levels and his ult ready can beat many heroes that are significantly more farmed than him (if they are not a hero that directly counters him), just relying on his brute force.

Doom is a pretty good comeback hero because his ultimate can stop the enemies if only one person is snowballing, which can often be the case. Plus, his late game is really incredible, and he’s rarely completely broke.

Anti-Mage is a decent comeback hero if the enemies have intelligence heroes, preferably cores that expend a lot of their own mana, since he can punish them very hard and maybe get their streaks. Besides that, he pushes quickly and can make his own map space pretty well.

Sniper is a possible comeback hero (if you remember that 6.83 era) because of his great high ground defense capabilities, and his ultimate making it possible that during one of those dives, he may get a streak or at least a kill or two.

Earthshaker is a hero that is pretty good at coming back too, since he has not only good anti-push, his stuns are very good at punishing the enemies diving, and he is an exceptional force late game as well.

Necrophos punishes diving hard, his skills are still effective even if he’s losing, since most of them are % based, and mistakes against Necro are extremely costly because of his extra 30 seconds of death.

Ancient Apparition is one of a few supports that seems really good for coming back, since his ultimate stops regeneration, which means that it punishes enemy dives really hard, and he is also strong at defending his base with it too.

Wraith King also seems like a potentially good comeback hero, mainly because he has 2 lives, making him really good against burst damage, and the heroes most likely to snowball are burst damage heroes. Plus he’s just really strong midgame.

Enigma , because his late game is incredible, and Black Hole is amazing.

Magnus , because his late game is incredible, and RP is amazing. Also, he can pull people to his team in those big high ground pushes, especially good paired with.

Techies , who honestly is even harder to high ground against than before, ever since he got infinite land mines.

Elder Titan , his counterinitiation skills are godly, natural order is hilariously powerful as the game goes on, and earth splitter is percent based.

So, who do you think is the best comeback hero? Or your favorite if you want to talk about it. It doesn’t have to be in the list, obviously.

7ckngMad’s professional Dota 2 career started with Team Shakira in 2011. The team first gained notability after placing 4th in Dreamhack Winter 2011 and shortly after Sébastien, along with the rest of the team, was picked up by Western Wolves. The new mTw squad managed to win the organisations first tournament and went on to beat Next. kz in the finals of the West Qualifiers for The International 2012, qualifying for the main event. The team continued having success in almost every tournament it took part in, most notably winning DreamHack Summer 2012. Going into The International 2012 the team was considered as one of the top contenders.

After placing second in the West Qualifier they faced Chinese team RattleSnake in the Wildcard Match. Before the wildcard match the team was signed by Quantic Gaming and therefore entered the tournament as Quantic.

The wildcard game ended in a heartbreaking fashion for 7ckinMad and his team. After two games the score was tied but RattleSnake managed to take the last two games of the series in a dominating fashion. Rattlesnake managed to eliminate Quantic 3-1 both due to good play from their own team but also misplays from Quantic, with the most famous one being Sockshka stunning a Beastmaster Boar due to a misclick that could otherwise have stunned three enemy heroes. In the following months Quantic slowly lost player after player, starting off with Silent leaving to Team Empire and Goblak joining Virtus. pro. [8] [9] After Funzii dec >[10]

The new team, featuring 7ckngMad, Sockshka, Mikkel “miGGel” Berg, Adrian “FATA-” Trinks and Brian “MaNia” Strandby, first went under the name DD. The organisation that ended up signing the team was the french Sigma. 7ckngmad dota 2 twitter [11] Before joining Sigma MaNia dec >[12] With this new team 7ckngMad had his most success so far by qualifying for several premier tournaments.

However, Sigma had mixed results at LANs, being able to achieve success at ESWC, Dota 2 Champion’s League and Starladder, but having early departures thereafter. Eventually, a last place finish at DreamLeague due to disqualification sealed the team’s fate, and 7ckngMad was left to wander around multiple teams.

Alliance [ edit ]

After short stints on various teams, 7ckngMad was taken in by Alliance, but the team posted mediocre results. After failing to qualify for The International 2015, the team seemed to be on the road to recovery, with top 4 placings at DreamLeague and joinDota MLG Pro League Season 2. However, it turned out to be for nothing, as an early departure from ESL One Frankfurt 2015 would be 7ckngmad’s last tournament with Alliance. After parting ways with Alliance, 7ckngMad began wandering the scene once more.

Late 2015 & OG [ edit ]

7ckngMad progressively lost prominence as an active player, with low placings on Monkey Freedom Fighters and Kaipi. After serving as an analyst at the Shanghai Major, 7ckngMad became OG’s coach and was able to once again show his skills through the team’s results. As OG’s coach, 7ckngMad proceeded to oversee the team’s victories and dominance at the Frankfurt, Manila, Boston and Kiev Majors, all of which were won by OG. Following Resolut1on’s departure in March 2018, he was a stand-in player until June before officially filling the offlane position for The International 2018.
