Jungling

Jungling (also referred to as bushing or neutral creeping) is when a player concentrates on killing Neutral Creeps during the game, usually for additional Gold or Experience. It refers to the Forests or Jungles between the lanes on either side where Neutral Creeps commonly spawn.

Contents

Basics [ edit ]

Neutral Creeps will spawn in camps in the jungles starting at 60 seconds into the game, and will respawn every minute of the game assuming the camp has been cleared. To clear a camp, it must have no units inside it, including Neutral Creeps, Heroes and/or wards (note:lane creeps don’t block camps). Creeps can be lured out of a camp, but will return after a period of time. Effective Junglers can use this to remove Creeps from a camp during the respawn time, so that a second wave appears while the first wave is still alive. This is called Creep Stacking. They can also trick creeps into following them into their lane where their lane creeps will engage. This is called Creep Pulling.

Jungling allows a Hero to earn Experience and Gold without being threatened by enemy Heroes, or having to split Experience gain with Allies. Additionally, Jungling makes last hitting significantly easier, and has greater returns in general compared to Laning. However, a Jungling Hero cannot be in lane, meaning that it effectively forces a team to have an additional solo lane. More solo lanes has its own advantages, but also leaves another Hero vulnerable, especially because the enemy team doesn’t need to sacrifice as much to put pressure on them. Jungling is also difficult for newer players, and requires plenty of practice to work.

Basic Strategy [ edit ]

In general, Jungling Heroes will need more Health and Mana regeneration in their build to be effective. Most Junglers will take a lot of damage while fighting and use a lot of abilities, and the additional Health and Mana regeneration will allow them to earn more before having to return to base to heal.

Summoner Heroes [ edit ]

Summoner Heroes can Jungle very well because they don’t have to attract the Creeps’ attention in order to deal damage. Summoners refer to Heroes that can not only summon more units, such as Enigma or Nature’s Prophet, but can also convert enemy units to their side, such as Chen or Enchantress. Summoners will often prioritize getting Mana regeneration over Health, due to high Mana costs associated with their abilities. Often, they’ll purchase a Clarity or Sage’s Mask early to keep their Mana up during the game.

Generally speaking, Summoners have an easy time Jungling because they just need to stand back while their units take care of the Creeps. Summoners that can convert Creeps are also capable of taking on Medium and Large Camps early on, while other Heroes should generally start with Small Camps.

Heroes with AoE Abilities [ edit ]

Area of Effect Abilities make for more effective Jungling because they allow the jungler to attack multiple creeps at once, rather than concentrating on single targets. In Jungling, there are two kinds of AoE Heroes: Mana-independent and Mana-dependent.

Mana-independent Heroes require little or no Mana to use their AoE Abilities, such as Axe or Tidehunter. These Heroes should focus on increasing their Health and Health regeneration early by purchasing items that provide Strength and Health bonuses. Mana-independent Heroes can make best use of Creep Stacking and Creep Pulling in order to increase the effectiveness of their abilities.

Mana-dependent Heroes need a decent amount of Mana to use their AoE Abilities. These Heroes should focus on items that boost both their Health and Mana regeneration, such as a Bottle, but should concentrate on keeping their Health and Mana regeneration as high as possible. Kiting is recommended to avoid taking damage while low on Mana. Dota 2 how to jungle effectively

Heroes with Lifesteal [ edit ]

Heroes with Lifesteal or similar Abilities, such as Lifestealer, Legion Commander, or Wraith King, can jungle Mana-independently and with a reliable source of Health Regeneration. However, the amount of Lifesteal might not be sufficient in the early game and their Jungling speed is rather slow, making them more effective in the lane. Jungling with these Heroes might also force the user to distribute their ability points in an unusual or ineffective way.

These Heroes should focus on damage blocking items such as Stout Shield and items that increase their Jungling speed, such as Quelling Blade or Power Treads.

Creep Stacking [ edit ]

Creep Stacking is a process in which a Hero draws Neutral Creeps away from their camp so that they leave the area before a new wave of Creeps respawns. This allows players to significantly increase the number of Creeps in a particular Camp, allowing them to earn more Gold and Experience from a single Camp, or increasing the effectiveness of Creep Pulling. Stacking also grants the stacker 35% of the bounty if the Creep camp is cleared by allies. Creep Camps can be Stacked indefinitely, allowing there to be massive amounts of Creeps at one time.

Creep Pulling [ edit ]

Creep Pulling allows a Hero to “pull” a group of Neutral Creeps into their lane, causing them to attack their lane creeps. This is executed by getting the attention of a Creep Camp nearest to the lane and timing it with the spawns of the lane creeps. Pulling allows Heroes to avoid damage from Neutral Creeps and bring their abilities off Cooldown, while also denying friendly Creeps and preventing the enemy from earning Experience.

Countering Junglers [ edit ]

An enemy Jungler can be countered by frequent ganks and offensive Observer Wards to make ganks easier. Wards, when placed inside the spawn area of a Neutral Creep Camp, can also be used to prevent the Neutral Creeps from spawning to limit the enemy Jungler’s options and income. A Shadow Blade or Smoke of Deceit can help you enter their jungle without being seen to gank.

Dota 2 ssd vs hdd cost

I am upgrading to a whole new computer, and unlike my current one this new one will have a small (250 GB) SSD as well as a normal hard drive.
Naturally for space reasons I’ll set steam to install my games on the HD, but should I put Steam itself on the SSD or would it be better to keep it with the games on the HD?

Secondary question: I feel like transfering my saves for all my games is going to be more complicated than just copy-paste. Am I overthinking and that’s all there is, or what else will I have to worry about?

Put the OS + Apps on SSD.
As far as Saves, that depends what you have backed up.
Steam Cloud Sync only works for some games.
You can use GameSaveManager app to backup/restore saves for games it supports.

Put your Steam install on the HDD, it won’t make a positive difference to have it on the SSD and that way the default Steam folders and game installs all go to the HDD.

Transfering saves can be as simple as copy paste, or even Steam Cloud doing it for you. In practice though copy paste can be complicated because all different games stash their saves in dozens of different places. So you are going to have to hunt down the save directory for each game one at a time and copy and paste which is rather annoying and tedious. So Steam Cloud is the only really easy way for doing this but many games don’t have it, sadly.

You’ll also have to make sure you paste them to all the right places.

Oh, trust me, I can’t go putting my games on the SSD. I keep having to delete things because I’m overflowing the 2TB HD I have now.

Not Games.
Put all your Game Clients on the SSD.
Games on HDD.

You can dictate where mostly everything goes, when you install it.
Some stuff must go to the OS drive though.

Put your Steam on HDD and if you want a game on SSD then create a separate folder there when installing..trust me do it this way. because when you start downloading a game, it first goes to a folder where steam is installed, that means every game you download would first write the data on the ssd and then move it to hdd so the ssd would wear much quicker in a long run, especially if you download lots of big games often.

No that’s all wrong. You can install Steam Client to OS Drive, go in and setup the Steam Library Folder to Secondary HDD; the game downloads to there if that’s where you choose to install it.

You want the Client installed to OS Drive, otherwise if the Client is on HDD, it too will be slow.

Steam has a web browser and all those features; so you want that housed on the SSD.

Look the game doesn’t download to where Steam is, if you are seeing that, then you are doing something wrong. If I tell the Game to install to D drive, that’s where it goes, it never downloads to C drive first and then moves it. It will allocate that space solely on the drive you choose to install to.

What you might be confusing that with; is what Steam tends to consider a “default”
By this I mean (and this is just an example) lets say I install Steam Client to C and I also setup a Steam Library on D drive. Steam Games will want to install to C by default, you must actually select this when you click “Install” in Steam Client for your game. When you have multiple drive letters and/or Library Folders configure, that is an option (via a drop down box) when you click Install. Also, Steam will also want to install to the last location used, by default. So if the last place I install a game was, lets say C:\Steam; that will be where it goes if you don’t change it the next time you install something in Steam.

Always look, rather then being too quick to click Install > Ok.

If say, D:\Steam was the last location you installed a Game from Steam; then that is the default location that should show up for next Game Install, and so on. You can also double check / change the default location; in Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders. When multiples are listed, one will be a default, to which you can designate.

Steam Library on a secondary drive (such as D:\Steam) will have it’s own \Steamapps sub structure; such as; Common, Depotcache, Downloading, Sourcemods, Temp, Workshop .

Dota Underlords team compositions to try

Here are a few hero combinations you can test in your next match.

The key of team compositions in Valve’s autobattler game Dota Underlords is to have good Alliance combinations with decent units.

If you want to have a strong board, you must know which Alliances are the best to center your team around and which are going to support heroes of that core Alliance. Since items in Underlords only start playing a major role on teams in the late game, the way you build your team until then is essential to winning a match.

For instance, there’s almost no use in running Assassins and Mages together since both are offensive Alliances. You might win a few rounds, but you’ll likely lose to the first tanky board you face. Going for Knights and Warriors also might not be a good idea because you’ll survive a long time every round but will likely lose due to a lack of damage to beat your opponent.

Here are a few team compositions you can try to play in your next Underlords match. Some of them are easier to run effectively while others can be situational, but what most of them have in common is that they try to have both good offense and defense. (This is updated for the Aug. 16 patch.)

Knights and Terrorblade

This build features a unique variant of the traditional Knights and Trolls build. Instead of going for six knights, you go for four of them to fit in Anti-Mage and Terrorblade in while having the level-one Warlock and Troll Alliance bonuses active with the help of Necrophos and Witchdoctor.

This build requires you to commit heavily on getting Terrorblade to three stars since it’ll be your damage carry. Getting Anti-Mage to three stars will also be really helpful and Luna could use that, too.

You need eight units to get this build online.

Core heroes

  • Abaddon (Knight/Heartless)
  • Batr > Screengrab via Underlords Build Creator
  • Four Knights (Knight units take 20 percent less physical and magic damage and an additional 20 percent less when standing one cell away from another Knight.)
  • Two Demon Hunters (Invalidate your opponent’s Demon Alliance bonus. All Demon and all Demon Hunter units gain +50 percent Pure Damage.)
  • Two Trolls (All Troll units gain +35 Attack Speed and other Allies gain +10 Attack Speed.)
  • Two Heartless (All enemies lose five armor.)
  • One Demon (All Demon units gain +50 percent Pure Damage. Active when you have only one type of Demon unit on the board.)
  • Two Warlocks (Whenever a Warlock casts a spell, they form a link with the Ally who has the lowest health for two seconds. When either linked hero deals damage, both units are healed 50 percent of the damage dealt.)

Support heroes

This build requires no other units to be improved. There are alternatives you can go for depending on your level.

  • Troll Warlord (Troll/Warrior), to take advantage of the Troll bonus for its damage per second.
  • Dragon Knight and Puck, to unlock Elusive and Dragon bonuses.

Brawny and Hunters

Since Valve got rid of Alliance items and added some of their effects to Alliance bonuses, Brawnies became a really strong alternative. Brawny units can get 60 extra health for each elimination they have in that entire game if you have the four-unit Alliance Bonus, which is enough to make them nearly immortal in the mid game.

Thanks to the Alliances of Brawny units, there’s a great combination of the four Brawnies of the game with Hunters, Warriors, and Warlocks. This is one of the strongest builds in Underlords today and one to surely go for if you know how to farm eliminations and get that round-one Axe.

It’s important to get your Hunter bonus active as soon as possible with the help of Lycan and another Hunter, which can be either Sniper or Drow Ranger. Having your Beastmaster with two stars is key for success in the early and mid-game if you have that bonus.

You need eight units to have this build running at full force. It’s a great idea to roll for some three-star Brawnies as well.

Core heroes

  • Axe (Brawny/Warrior)
  • Juggernaut (Brawny/Warrior)
  • Beastmaster (Brawny/Hunter)
  • Disruptor (Brawny/Shaman/Warlock)
  • Lycan (Human/Savage/Hunter)
  • Sniper (Scrappy/Deadeye/Hunter)
  • Pudge (Heartless/Warrior)
  • Necrophos (Heartless/Warlock)

Active Alliance bonuses

  • Four Brawny (All Brawny units gain +60 maximum HP for each kill they have.)
  • Three Warriors (All Warriors gain +10 Armor.)
  • Three Hunters (All Hunters have a 25 percent chance of quickly performing 2 attacks.)
  • Two Heartless (All enemies lose five armor.)
  • Two Warlocks (Whenever a Warlock casts a spell, they form a link with the Ally who has the lowest health for two seconds. When either linked hero deals damage, both units are healed 50 percent of the damage dealt.)

Build with support heroes

  • Tidehunter and Medusa for Scaled bonus.

Scrappy and Hunters

This build became possible thanks to the addition of the Scrappy alliance to Sniper, who used to be solely a Hunter and Deadeye unit. With this change, it became much easier for players building Scrappy to get the last stage of the Alliance bonus with six units.

This build isn’t contested a lot, which helps players easily build three-star units with it in the late game. The key is to have your Inventors in the front for their explosion damage along with Alchemist for its ability. You can combine Sniper with Drow Ranger and Lycan for the Hunter Alliance bonus.

You can get this build online with eight units, which will get you six Scrappy, three Hunters, and three Inventors. As a ninth unit, Necrophos is the best choice to give you both Warlock and Heartless Alliance bonuses at once. Your 10th unit, if you choose to go that far, can be a Gyrocopter to activate the Deadeye bonus. Medusa can also jump in to replace Lycan in the late game if you don’t have him at three stars.

Core heroes

  • Tinker (Scrappy/Inventor)
  • Clockwerk (Scrappy/Inventor)
  • Timbersaw (Scrappy/Inventor)
  • Bounty Hunter (Scrappy/Assassin)
  • Alchemist (Scrappy/Warlock)
  • Sniper (Scrappy/Hunter/Deadeye)
  • Lycan (Human/Savage/Hunter)
  • Drow Ranger (Heartless/Hunter)

Active Alliance bonuses

  • Six Scrappy ( Allies gain nine Armor and eight HP Regeneration. Armor and HP are doubled whenever you have fewer units alive than your opponent does.)
  • Two Inventors (Allied Inventors explode on death dealing 30 percent of their Max Health to all enemies one cell away.)
  • Three Hunters (All Hunters have a 25 percent chance of quickly performing two attacks.)

Build with support heroes

  • Necrophos for Heartless and Warlock bonus.
  • Gyrocopter for Deadeye bonus.
  • Medusa as a replacement for Lycan (if he’s not three stars.)

We’ll update this story as Alliances and heroes change in Dota Underlords.

Do you use it? yes or no.
Are you even aware of it? yes or no

Aware, but not use. Too lazy to reload it every time.

Also, looks like it disabled for matchmaking anyway.

No, I wasn’t aware of this. What is it and what does it do?

it draws a circle around your hero, much like the ones you see when you hover you mouse over your skills. Only in this case you set the radius of the circle. Ppl generally use it to
– see how far until the tower shoots at them
– see how far the pudge hook goes
– see how far the Clockwer hook goes

I personally consider it as a light form of cheating.

Your thinking of the wrong command, that one was disabled.
This one draws an arrow when you select a targeting spell, showing the range and casting point of that spell just like in LoL/HoN/Prime World and ever other game calling itself a MOBA/ARTS

Thank you, to both of you.

Whichever is correct, I admit that sounds like something that is very useful. I’ve had plenty of moments when I dove in to close or was out of position because I mis-estimated the range of certain abilities.
On the other hand, if everyone isn’t playing with this same option, the it DOES feel more than a bit like cheating.

I didn’t know about this, but it seems like it just works around having to actually learn the things (which doesn’t take very long).

Try playing 4 different games, each with similiarties and minor differences and try playing more than one hero of each.

Having a visual range indicator immedately gives you an idea how to use that hero’s skills. It actually gives players confidence to try out new heroes.

HoN basically screwed itself over for taking so long implementing range indicators, probably lost tens of thousands of player to LoL alone simply by delaying range indicator for so long.

LoL was designed in such a way that the basic mechanics was quick and easy to learn. HoN and DOTA2 for some reason chose to hide basic and vital information, screwing themselves over in terms of building a bigger playerbase in exchange for what really?

DOTA2 can be made more accessable without even having to touch the core gameplay simply by providing it as option and making it visible (instead of having it hidden in the console).

LoL was designed in such a way that the basic mechanics was quick and easy to learn. HoN and DOTA2 for some reason chose to hide basic and vital information, screwing themselves over in terms of building a bigger playerbase in exchange for what really?

DOTA2 can be made more accessable without even having to touch the core gameplay simply by providing it as option and making it visible (instead of having it hidden in the console).

no plz don’t just don’t

No, I wasn’t aware of this. What is it and what does it do?

it draws a circle around your hero, much like the ones you see when you hover you mouse over your skills. Only in this case you set the radius of the circle. Ppl generally use it to
– see how far until the tower shoots at them
– see how far the pudge hook goes
– see how far the Clockwer hook goes

I personally consider it as a light form of cheating.

It’s about dota_range_display, not dota_disable_range_finder.

Back to the TS question: yes, I’m using it, so second answer is obvious.

Chess would be easier to learn if it only had half as many different pieces, but then it also wouldn’t be the same kind of game.

Designing a game that takes longer to master isn’t inherently worse; it’s just different.
Frankly, I don’t mind that the game doesn’t hold my hand every step of the way, and that it’s a struggle at times. I think it keeps it from becoming just boring busy-work, sort of like WoW had become before I quit. Plus, when I DO land a really nice hit or master some new facet of the game, I enjoy it more because I know that it was all me, instead of a computer crunching the numbers and going “ok, use ability X when you reach location Y, receive cookies”.

GAMERS DECIDE

New Season New Teams

The Dota 2 Pro scene is forever a changing landscape and now that the post-TI lineup changes have concluded, and the teams have had their chance to play in a full Major and the Qualifier for another, it is time to speculate on which teams could be the top of the new season.

10. TNC Predator

TNC Predator tied with PSG. LGD at the Kuala Lumpur Major, and finished in 2nd place for the Southeast Asia Qualifier for Chongqing behind Fnatic. Their Chongqing Qualifier performance, however, could’ve been negatively impacted by a Valve mandated banning of Kuku from the tournament and losing a Captain is no minor inconvenience. Clearly they have the skill and teamwork to Qualify for the Major, but as their down a Captain in Kuku it will be hard to judge their true potential regardless of their Chongqing standings – but a full powered TNC Predator could be a force.

Playing for TNC Predator:

9. NIP

Ninjas in Pyjamas, can never get over that name, finished 4th place in the Kuala Lumpur Major and holds the 4th most DPC points for this year. The team is only 3 months old and already had a high standing in a Major – clearly the talent is present, but will they have the teamwork to last the entire year?

8. VG

VG tied with Fnatic at the Kuala Lumpur Major and had a solid showing in last year’s Circuit. The team has had a 3 player roster change of picking up Yang, Fade, and Dy dropping eLeVeN, LaNm, and Fenrir. VG is set to play in DPL Season 6 and if their performance picks up then they could be a promising team to follow into the year.

7. Forward Gaming

Time to get into the grey areas, Forward have finished 2nd place in two Major Qualifiers but have overcome their problems with EG, losing 0-2 in Kuala Qualifier and 1-2 in the Kuala Major only to turn around with a 2-0 in the Chongqing Qualifier. This rising team shows great potential for the upcoming season and the Chongqing Major will be a testing ground for them to hopefully triumph upon.

6. Fnatic

The 4th place TI finishers have changed their roster and still finished 2nd in the PVP Esports Championship, ahead of PSG. LGD but losing 2-3 to Secret. Clearly the potential of this team can be seen.

5. EG

3rd place Kuala Lumpur finishers and 3rd place 2018-2019 DPC standing team EG shows no roster changes and no chance of slowing down.

4. Liquid

Team Liquid proved they still have what it takes during the Chongqing Major Qualifiers by completely clowning around in style and still making 2nd. These previous TI winners show they still got it and half of Dota is actually enjoying the game and this team surely does.

Same as ever, Liquid’s players are:

3. PSG. LGD

The 2nd place team out of TI, PSG. LGD showed great consistency last year. This team roster has been together since January 2018 and their 3rd place DPC ranking last year feels very earned, making up for their Kuala Lumpur performance. For all we know PSG. LGD will have their shot at TI again this year.

The players on PSG. LGD are:

2. Secret

Secret finished in 4th place for the DPC rankings last year and suffered during the TI event. They have since dropped Ace and Fata for Nisha and Zai and finished 2nd place in the Kuala Lumpur Major. Their early strength for the new Circuit has been further shown in the Chongqing Major finishing 1st in their Qualifier over Liquid – however, Liquid may have not been trying as hard as expected.

Secret’s roster consists of:

1. Virtus Pro

VP have been a powerhouse since last year’s circuit and continue to show a strong dominance early in 2019. VP are currently leading the DPC charts for this year which shows major stability for this team as they also finished last year with the highest DPC. VP took 1st place in the Kuala Lumpur Major, continuing their trend of early Major dominance. With the stability this team shows maybe this year will be their Aegis.

League of Legends vs. DOTA 2

An introduction to the two

League of Legends and DOTA 2 are two of the most prominent MOBA’s or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games on the globe right now. The two might seem worlds apart, but they are actually both based on the same game mod which was Defence Of the Ancients which was released in 2003, with that itself being a mod for Warcraft III. However, skip back to the modern day we find fans filling up stadiums watching professional gamers of both League of Legends and DOTA 2 respectively. So what makes them so popular when it comes to E-Sports? And how is League of Legends pitting itself against DOTA 2?

One of the main things that attract players to MOBA’s is the strategy behind the game. If we look at the number of different team possibilities in LOL E-Sports , it is a staggering 765 quintillion or 7 with 20 digits following it. Not only this but there are many different strategies your team can take in terms of where to attack an enemy or to flank them at a certain point in time. There is also the vanity aspect where players can purchase customized skins for their favorite champions through micro-transactions. There are also constant updates to the game such as introducing new champions, making alterations to existing champions and introducing new maps.

How does League of Legends fare against DOTA 2?

Although the two MOBA’s are both based on the same game, there are plenty of differences between the two. We’re going to look at what gives League of Legends the edge over its fierce rival. Both games have the same base layout where there is a middle lane, a top lane, and a bottom lane. Typically you’ll have two players in the top lane, one in the middle and two at the bottom. The first significant difference is that there are more skill shots when it comes to League of Legends, a skill shot is where a player must manually aim and sometimes predict the movement of the opposition a couple of seconds ahead adding a new element of skill to the game.

League of Legends is also a lot faster paced than DOTA 2 where your champion can turn and move instantly, whereas the mechanics in DOTA mean that you have to wait for your character to turn before moving. The roles of each player in League of Legends is also a lot simpler. There are five leading roles, your ADC or Attack Damage Carry, Top, Mid, Jungler and a Support. However, this gets a bit more complicated in DOTA 2 with there being a total of 9 roles.

The E-Sports scene for League of Legends began in 2009 when the first professional league of legends tournament was hosted by Riot Games, the developers of the game. Since then we’ve seen tournament pots reach more than $2 million in 2014 and 2015 with the World Championship Finals being held in South Korea’s National Stadium.

A final few words

Last year there were roughly around 120 million people playing League of Legends and with the player base for DOTA 2 being approximately around 20 million. League of Legends was released after DOTA 2 however the amount of effort Riot Games has put into both the updates, the vanity aspects of the game and the E-Sports scene has seen them take the industry by storm; however the prize pots in League of Legends are dwarfed by the biggest DOTA 2 pot which was a staggering $25 million, with many of the wealthiest E-Sports stars being DOTA 2 players.

Dota Lore Spotlight #1: Arc Warden

The primordial mind and the birth of the Dota 2 universe

The world of Dota 2 is immersive and expansive, and serves to enrich the Dota experience. In our Dota Lore Spotlight column, we will attempt to shine a light on the lore of Dota 2, and hopefully add further depth to your gameplay. Our first subject of examination is Arc Warden – a fragment of a primordial mind that was present at the very beginning of the universe, and continued to evolve through the eons. Without further ado, here is the story of Zet.

As is the case with most lore, the narrative is inclined to begin where the inception of the universe unfolds. Be it stories of world parent deities, theories of creation from chaos, or something else entirely, video game mythologies strive to present a unique and engaging creation myth, and though it may not be utilized to its full potential within the game itself, the lore of Dota 2 is no different. In order to learn how the Dota universe came to be, and what ignited the grand feud between the Radiant and the Dire, one must look to the primordial mind, a fantastical but cryptic tale of creation that explains the chain of events that led to the conflict of the Nemesis Stones, and serves as the biography of Zet, the Arc Warden.

At first, Dota 2 seems to present us with a deceptively simple concept; two factions, in this case the Radiant and the Dire, meet on a square battlefield with the goal of destroying the opposing factions base and specifically the glowing stone structure that dwells at the base center. It’s a tried and true video game scenario, and it’s easy to mistake it for being somewhat lacking in depth, but the Radiant and Dire are not waging war without reason – and their reasoning dates back to a time before time, where there existed a single enigmatic presence.

Before the universe took shape, there existed a consciousness, vaguely described as a “primordial mind”. Seemingly omnipotent, omnipresent, and infinitely incomprehensible, this presence was all that existed, and it existed beyond human concepts of time, space, and purpose. The being is assumed to have had the power to manipulate reality at will, but there are no records of such powers ever being exercised. Instead, the primordial mind lay dormant for uncounted eons, until one day, the great cosmic silence was broken through means hitherto unexplained, when the universe suddenly exploded into existence and the primordial mind suffered the consequences of the dramatic event. What had once been a singular godly being had been shattered by the sheer force of a universe being born and was torn into several fragmented minds, each one with its own identity and powers. The two greatest fragments of the previously unified primordial mind had taken the separate identities of Radinthul and Diruulth, soon to become known to us as the Radiant and the Dire.

Radinthul and Diruulth had become each others polar opposite, and wielding infinite, yet evenly matched power, one sought to destroy the other by bending reality as it saw fit. This conflict went on seemingly without end, until one day, when a third fragment of the shattered primordial mind revealed itself as Zet, another powerful entity spawned from the calamity that birthed the universe. Zet yearned for unification and harmony, the endless conflict between two fragments of what had once been a single mind proved itself appalling to Zet, and it decided to once again unify his siblings, by force if that was what it would take.

Using its vast cosmic powers, Zet imprisoned its siblings within one celestial body that soon became known as the Mad Moon and flung it into orbit around a lone planet in the now expansive universe where he hoped for the warring entities to drift aimlessly forever, effectively putting an end to their conflict. And, for a time, it worked. Zet served as the warden watching over the imprisoned fragments but since the primordial mind itself had been shattered, neither Zet nor his sibling fragments wielded the once infinite power of the unified entity. For this reason, Radinthul and Diruulth continued their struggle from within the Mad Moon and Zet’s power started steadily waning, until one day, its power had been so severely diminished that it could no longer contain its siblings. The Mad Moon had been deteriorating as Zet grew weary and the decay culminated in the moon violently bursting at the seams, flinging stones infused with the warring consciousnesses down to the planet below, marking the beginning of the Nemesis Stones and their warfare on Earth.

The debris infused with the warring siblings became known as Radiant Ore and Direstone, due to the influence of Radinthul and Diruulth, and with their presence in the stone came their impact on the planet they now found themselves inhibiting. The Radiant favored intelligence and creation, while the Dire retained its role as a polar opposite, and favored strength and destruction. The entities exercised a powerful mind altering effect on living beings, causing creatures on Earth to take the side of whichever stone formation was closest to them. This is how the Dota-conflict began – heroes from all corners of the Earth felt the pull of the Radiant and the Dire, and as the stones continued to dominate their minds. Gatherings of heroes began to champion the nemesis causes of the Radiant and the Dire on the battlefield. The Defence of the Ancients had begun.

Zet, however, had not given up despite being severely drained of its once great power. As this took place, the severely weakened Arc Warden called on a corporeal body and made itself known on the battlefield to join the fray, not championing the Radiant or the Dire, but still fighting to achieve the unity it had known as part of the primordial mind. A shattered entity, Zet wields the power of its lesser fragments in combat, infusing enemies with arcs of volatile electricity, patrolling areas with wraiths of sparks, twisting the space around him to shield himself with magnetic fields, and ultimately calling upon a fractured mirror image of itself to briefly aid it in its battle to destroy both the Radiant and the Dire, so that it may achieve unity once again.
