DOTA has evolved and with every patch it gets harder to run for potatoes. Plus, when TI compendium is live the game is poorly optimized for the new Immortals released.
What helps the most is to close any other programs, specially stuff featuring in-game overlays (including Steam’s own overlay), team chat, overclocking tools, vpn and download “accelerators”, mouse and keyboard software bundles ( Razer , Steelseries, Logitech), streaming/recording (ShadowPlay, Raptr ), web browsing heavy js & media pages (facebook, twitter, youtube), lame antivirus (I recommend switching to Avira) etc.

Useful DOTA batch files:
steam_silent. bat – Relaunch Steam with tweaked parameters
reset_Steam. bat – If you want to reset all Steam client settings
reset_Dota2.bat – If you want to reset all Dota 2 settings, including Steam Cloud remote folders
Hit download / get button on pastebin, then run it (might need to right-click open as Administrator)
If after launching Dota 2 you get the Steam Cloud Sync Conflict window, chose Upload.
This might cure the issues with settings being reset each time you start Dota 2.

Dota 2

Dota 2 is an Action RTS game, developed by Valve Corporation. The title was formally announced on October 13, 2010; and was released as a Free to Play game on July 9th, 2013 for Windows, and July 18th, 2013 for Mac OS and Linux. It is the successor to the very popular Warcraft 3 mod, Defense of the Ancients, which was based on the Aeon of Strife map for StarCraft.

Basic premise [ edit ]

Dota 2 is an RTS-styled MOBA-type competitive team game with RPG elements. Two competing teams (Radiant and Dire) consist of five players each. The main objective in Dota 2 is to destroy the enemy Ancient inside their stronghold. These strongholds are protected by multiple towers down 3 lanes. Instead of building armies of units like in classical RTS games, each player controls a single Hero, a strategically-powerful unit with unique abilities and characteristics which can be improved over the course of the game. Experience is earned when nearby creeps and heroes die, and once collecting enough experience, the hero gains a level, which increases the hero’s stats, and at most levels the hero gains a skill point which can be spent to unlock or upgrade one of the hero’s abilities. Alongside a hero’s fixed abilities, each hero has 6 inventory slots which can be filled with Items which provide various benefits and abilities. To purchase these items, Gold is gained passively over time, by killing creeps, by killing enemy heroes and by destroying buildings.

Dota 2 has a heavy emphasis on tactics and team co-ordination, and a deep amount of strategy focused on building up strength as fast as possible, optimal itemization, and selecting what order to upgrade your hero’s spells.

Development [ edit ]

IceFrog, the lead developer for the original Defense of the Ancients, was hired by Valve Software in 2009.

The beta began in 2010, officially ending in July 2013 just before The International 2013 when the Windows client was officially released to the public with a queue system to deal with high traffic. The Mac and Linux clients were released a week after the general release of the Windows client. Dota 2 runs on the Source 2 Engine and mimics some of the quirks that were present in the original DotA game in order to preserve gameplay.

Map [ edit ]

The Map is the playing field for all Dota 2 matches. It has two s > Radiant faction, and one for the Dire faction. To win, players must destroy the opposing side’s Ancient, an important building at the center of each team’s base. The map is represented in the interface by the minimap. It is also important to note that the game only contains one map by default, however, custom games can feature new, community created maps.

Heroes [ edit ]

Heroes are each unique characters within Dota 2. At the start of each game, two teams of five are randomly assigned to Radiant and Dire, then sides take turns selecting a Hero from the Hero Pool. Each player controls a single Hero and any units that hero controls, such as summoned units like Eidolons. The selection of these 10 heroes is commonly referred to as that match’s draft.

Heroes will gain experience when enemy units are killed nearby. They start the game at level one, and as they earn experience, they eventually level up, and each level grants more increases to the hero’s attributes and an ability point to spend on upgrading abilities or Talents.

In addition to a hero’s abilities, each hero has a melee or ranged attack which does an amount of damage based on the primary attribute: strength, agility, or intelligence.

Dota 2 has currently implemented 119 heroes. 112 of these heroes were based on heroes from DotA Allstars; and after porting all the DotA heroes, 7 more original heroes have been added.

Items [ edit ]

Items are used to give Heroes additional various abilities, attack modifiers, bonus attributes, as well as secondary stats such as armor, attack speed, or improved regeneration of health or mana. Depending on what unit you kill, gold may be rewarded solely to the killer (such as creep bounty), or distributed to the killer’s team (such as towers, barracks, couriers and Roshan).

It is now possible to run dedicated servers for Dota 2 on all platforms: Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.

To get started, download Dota 2 using the Steam client or SteamCMD with appid 570. For SteamCMD, you will have to login to an existing Steam account since it is not available when logging in anonymously.

For Mac OS X, follow the Linux instructions for SteamCMD usage. The Mac OS X build of SteamCMD can be downloaded on the valve developer wiki.

Next, download the appropriate attachment below for the OS on which you wish to run a server. Extract the files into your Dota 2 install directory. Note that this will overwrite the dedicated. so or dedicated. dylib file on Linux or OS X.

By default, the install directory will be one of the following:
Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\dota 2 beta
Linux:

/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/dota 2 beta
Mac OS X:

/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/dota 2 beta
For Linux, if you don’t have the Steam client installed, you will also need to download the Steam runtime and extract it into your home directory.

For both Linux and Mac OS X, if you don’t have the Steam client installed, you will need to still obtain the steamclient binaries from a Steam client install for your OS and copy them to the bin directory of your Dota 2 install. This includes crashhandler, steamclient, libsteam, libtier0_s, and libvstdlib_s. On Linux, these files have a. Dota 2 local lobby hamachi mac so extension and can be found in

/.steam/bin32. On OS X, they have a. Dota 2 local lobby hamachi mac dylib extension and can be found in /Applications/Steam. app/Contents/MacOS/osx32. From /Applications/Steam. app/Contents/MacOS, you will also need to copy the Frameworks directory to your server’s install directory (NOT bin).

Before you run the server, it is highly recommended that you also install the latest snapshot of Metamod:Source and the Dota 2 Fixups plugin in order to fix a number of issues. Note that you must edit the gameinfo. txt file in the “dota” subdirectory in order to install Metamod:Source. For more details on this install method, see the documentation here. (If you chose to use a Steam client install from which you also play the game, you will need to remove the gameinfo edit before launching the Dota client.)

Running the Server

After installing the necessary files, running the server is easy if you’ve ever run Source servers before. Open a terminal program (or the command prompt on Windows) and navigate to the directory containing your Dota 2 installation. Then run the following command depending on which OS you are using:
Windows: srcds. exe – console – game dota +map dota
Linux:

/steam-runtime/run. sh ./srcds_run – game dota +map dota
Mac OS X: ./srcds_run – game dota +map dota
Additional command line options, such as – port

The lucky winners of the TI5 Golden Ticket contest have been selected. Two animated short films, a cosplay build walk-through and a board game were the winning submissions.

Four winners were selected out of 88 submissions – three by judges and one by community vote. The winners will receive TI5 tickets and will have their flights covered.

TI5 Golden Ticket contest is a contest created to give community content creators the opportunity to attend The International 5.

One year ago, we gave away our spare ticket to Valve’s The International Dota 2 event to one lucky content creator, and this year we are looking to expand and give away a FULL FREE RIDE to TI5 for THREE deserving community members. We hope to not only provide the much sought after ticket, but also full airfare, and hotel stay to three lucky people that could have not afforded to go any other way.

Besides giving fans who would otherwise not be able to afford to attend TI5 the chance to go, the TI5 Golden Ticket contest was also designed to “help facilitate growth and content of the Dota 2 community”. The hope was that artists and content creators would gain attention and recognition, allowing them the chance to grow professionally within the scene.

Winning entries were not ranked in any succession of quality. Each winner will receive a TI5 ticket and return-trip plane tickets. The remaining funds will be divided evenly between the winners to be applied towards lodging or donated to a charity like Child’s Play.

Danil “Dendi” Ishutin (born December 30, 1989) is a Ukrainian professional Dota 2 and former DotA player. Well known for his solo mid skills, he is regarded as one of the most creative players in the scene today, and is renowned for his unorthodox play style and unconventional skill and item builds. After having played for Natus Vincere for the entirety of his professional Dota 2 career, he finally departed the active roster for the first time in September 2018. Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Dendi got an early start with competitive gaming in net cafes when his elder brother married, moved out and took the family’s PC with him. Dabbling with Counter-Strike first, he soon found Warcraft 3 where he played in local tournaments and built a love for the competition and a thirst to be the best. Though he was quite successful in Warcraft 3 and even won a few local championships in Lviv, he knew he had found his calling when he stumbled upon DotA. He picked up the game quickly and played it almost exclusively over the next few months.

Beginning with learning only supports, he practiced heavily and was quickly vouched to the IHCS1 league and soon created his own team for tournaments in Lviv. After he led his team to a championship in Kiev, he was drafted by a team called “Wolker. Gaming” and began his professional career at 17.

DotA [ edit ]

Dendi started playing professionally with WG in 2006. [1] He was a part of the Ukrainian squad that finished third in MYM Prime Nations the same year. Only a few months later WG made it to the grand final of one of the most prestigious tournaments at the time; MYM Prime Defending. [2] When Kingsurf. international merged with WG the next year he became a full-time member of Ks. int. [1] In late 2008 he joined DTS, only to return to Ks. int in March 2009. [3] Three months later though, Dendi returned to DTS. [4] The team would end up finishing 2nd at ESWC 2010. At the end of 2010, Dendi and DTS finished 3rd at the prestigious WDC 2010. [5] Dendi joined Natus Vincere at the end of 2010. [6]

Dota 2 [ edit ]

Dendi started his Dota 2 career with Na’Vi, who quickly established themselves as one of the best teams in the world by winning The International 2011. Na’Vi continued to dominate and won many tournaments in the years 2011, 2012 and 2013. Dendi was the center of Na’Vi’s consistent stable and skilled rosters, with his performance greatly contributing to their success.

The Natus Vincere Dota 2 team achieved significant success with Dendi as their midlaner during the first few years of the game; they finished as the runners-up for both The International 2012 and The International 2013, losing out to Invictus Gaming and Alliance, respectively. 2013 would mark the last year of Na’Vi and Dendi’s dominance in the Dota 2 scene, as they only recorded two LAN victories since January 2014. The International 2014 saw Na’Vi and Dendi finishing the tournament outside of the top 2 for the first time and the following two Internationals, TI 5 and TI 6, they would finish in last place. The results would deteriorate further, as they would fail to even qualify for The International 2017, they failed to advance out of the group stage of the regional qualifiers. This marked the first year of The International tournaments without Dendi attending as a player. The 2017/18 season started of promising for Dendi and Na’Vi, who dominated the CIS scene in the early months, crowning their improving results with their second LAN victory since 2014. However, the second half of the season saw the roster break apart and finally the team would fail to even reach the regional qualifiers for The International 2018, after losing in the open qualifier.

Four years of roster instability and poor results finally took their toll on the reputation of the Na’Vi organization and on Dendi’s status as a legendary player and a top tier midlaner. After 8 years playing mid on Na’Vi, Dendi was finally removed from the active roster in September 2018. However, Dendi vowed to continue playing professionally. After a brief stint on Tigers, Dendi joined The Pango.

Steam will simply give you a notification that your download has completed and will let you get to it at your own will. There will be no rush to do anything about it or make adjustments whatsoever. For example, “Deal 1000 damage to heroes in 1 second”. Now people kept thinking bout heroes like Phantom Assassin, Wraith King for their critical strike or tinker with Ethereal blade and Level 5 Dagon, but remember guys it says “Heroes“, why don’t you take AOE spell casters and deal damage in AOE in 1 sec, like Queen of Pain ultimate to 2 heroes and this challenge is gone.

Heroes Challenge:

There are 2 different types of Hero Challenges which can earn you coins and Compendium points.

1. The Ten Hero Challenge gives all Compendium owners the chance to earn additional Compendium Levels by winning normal games with a selection of heroes. The Ten Hero Challenge can be completed up to three times with a different selection of heroes for a total of 450 points (4.5 Levels). Once you complete 10 heroes challenge once you get 150 Points, mean 1.5 levels. So after completing it 3 times, you get 450 points or 4.5 levels. each time you complete 10 hero challenge once, you get different heroes next time. You can also re-roll once in each 10 hero challenge, to change your heroes randomly.

1. All Compendium owners will now have an additional slot for hero-specific challenges in their list of in-game challenges, which will award both Compendium Coins and points toward Compendium Levels when completed.

After the latest update, now other than All Pick games, you can also complete Challenges in Captains Mode, Captains Draft, Random Draft, Single Draft, and All Random game modes.

You can also consume collector’s cache’s sets for 2 levels. Most of those sets are so awesome that you don’t want to consume them

Simple Sprite Effect

Here we’ll walk through a few steps to create a simple effect in the Particle Editor.

1. If you haven’t already created an addon in the Workshop Tools, do that now.
2. Hit the PET icon to launch the Particle Editor:
3. File menu->New to create an empty new effect.
4. In the Functions window (which should be the central column) click the plus (+) sign next to Renderer.
5. In the list of Renderers, pick Render sprites.
6. In the Functions window, click the plus sign next to Operator.
7. In the list of Operators, pick Lifespan Decay.
8. In the Functions window, click the plus sign next to Operator.
9. In the list of Operators, pick Movement Basic.
10. In the Functions window, click the plus sign next to Initializer.
11. In the list of Initializers, pick Position Within Sphere Random.
12. In the Functions window, click the plus sign next to Emitter.
13. In the list of Emitters, pick Emit continuously.
14. You should now see a single small particle in the center of the grid in the Preview panel:
15. In the Functions window, select the Position Within Sphere Random Initializer by clicking on it. You will see its properties appear in the Properties panel of the PET.

• Base Properties->color
• Base Properties->lifetime

• Movement Base->gravity (try values around -200 in the “z”, or third, field, which defines up/down forces)
• Movement Base->drag (values over 0.5 won’t be much fun unless you raise your speed max property in the Position Initializer. )
• Position Within Sphere Random->distance max (hint: the ground grid is 128×128 units)
• Emit continuously->emission rate
• Emit continuously->emission duration
• Emit continuously->emission start time

Property Defaults in Action

This effect can produce results with just a few Functions because it relies on default properties for many important things: Radius, color, lifetime, rotation, texture, emission rate, and lots of under-the-hood properties.

However, if you’re making an effect for your addon, you’re probably going to want to change some of those defaults. You might even want to specify more complex behavior for some of them.
