Dota 2: Final Highlights of WESG 2018-2019

After four days of incredible Dota, it’s finally time to say goodbye. Today was the final day of WESG 2018-2019, which, despite not being a DPC event, provided an incredible $890,000 prize pool. Let’s take a look at what happened!

Keen Gaming vs Team Ukraine

The opening series of the day was between two of the best performing teams so far — Team Ukraine and Keen Gaming. Both of them finished first in their groups. Naturally, people expected this to be a very interesting game. However, this was not the case. Keen gaming completely tore the CIS squad apart in both games and advanced to the Grand Final.

In Game One, the Chinese drafted the classic Magnus + Phantom Assassin Combo that has proven to be very successful so far. Even though Team Ukraine was playing fairly decent for the first few minutes, one bad team fight shifted the course of the game. Suddenly, the two empowered cores of KG slowly became a little bit too much to deal with. Having no other option, No[o]ne and Co GG’ed out just 25 minutes in.

Facing defeat, the CIS team decided to do a cheesy start involving Anti-Mage. Sadly, their plan did not work. Kaka and his teammates utilized their Night Stalker pick to the max as he ripped through the enemy lanes. On top of that, their pick was focused on pushing, something which Team Ukraine had no answer for. Similar to Game One, the Chinese needed around 26 minutes to secure their win and continue further.

White-Off vs TNC Predator

#TNCDOTA2 Grand Finals! We take the series against White-Off 2-0 behind a pulsating comeback from the boys!

These teams already played against each other in Group C. However, this time the stake was a lot higher – the winner advances to the Grand Final.

One of the main attractions of game one was TNC’s Morphling. After pretty much annihilating the mid lane, he continued to cause havoc to the other heroes in the game. By the 20 minute mark, the SEA powerhouse took full control of the game. This resulted in a massive 9k net worth advantage. WO had no way to deal with their cores and decided to focus on Game 2.

The second game of the series was definitely a lot more intriguing to watch. White-Off had the lead for the most part of the game but despite that, they were just unable to deliver their knock-out punch. When the dust settled, TNC realized the farming potential of their Magnus + two melee core lineup and decided to use it.

Even though WO were able to get two lanes of rax, the push for the mega creeps did not go so well. SF’s Aegis expired in the middle of the fight and forced his buyback. Just a few minutes after that, another fight went in favour of TNC as Gabbi’s Juggernaut grabbed a Rapier. With 4 dead, Ramzess was the sole survivor but he couldn’t stop the zerg of TNC.

Even though WO deserved the victory more, the SEA team managed to snatch it.

The Grand Final

Keen Gaming and TNC Predator were the final two teams that had to determine the winner. TNC had some extra motivation – revenge for Kuku’s Chongqing Ban. Unlike other tournaments, the Grand Final here was played in a best-of-three format.

The SEA team had a very solid start of the game. Their Chen-Venomancer offlane was able to completely shut down KG’s carry. Unfortunately, the other lanes had the same problem. Keen Gaming had absolutely no answer to TNC’s aggression and had to call the GG just 24 minutes into the game.

Having the moral advantage, Gabbi and his team-mates went into game two with only one goal – victory. They completely outdrafted their opponents who clearly had no idea how to counter the Naix-bombs from TNC. Keen gaming tried to take a page out of TNC’s book by doing some ganks but they were completely ineffective. TNC continued to dominate and eventually brought KG to their knees.

Congratulations to SEA powerhouse. This is their second WESG trophy.

3rd place Match

This is probably one of the few events where the match for the 3rd place was actually more interesting than the Grand Final. The two CIS teams went head-to-head in order to determine which one will go home with $100,000.

The first game of the series went in favour of Team Ukraine, even though White-Off had the lead in terms of net worth for most of the game. They decided to get Alchemist, a hero that has recently become more popular after the changes. Unfortunately, Alch is strong only when he has the right timing, something which the Russians could not take advantage of. Slowly but steadily, Ember and Troll from Team Ukraine were able to shift the balance of power and in the end, claim the victory.

A battle between two teams from the same region definitely has a pride element in them. That’s why White-off had no choice but to win the second game of the series.

In order to counter the insane damage output of Ukraine’s lineup, the Russians chose a very tanky setup. Iceberg’s Ursa had a wonderful game, but he was just not enough to deal with DK and Lifestealer. The final fight of the game happened near the top lane. WO had the advantage by getting a quick pick-off but Ramzess was way too strong to be stopped. There was going to be a Game 3.

The Final Game

Team Ukraine decided to get very greedy picks in the face of Alch + Spectre. Usually, those two heroes do not work together, but this game was different. Somehow both of them managed to get the needed farm in order to be effective.

Even then, despite being down by 10k gold, the Russians never gave up. After some crucial fights for them, Ramzess was able to gain a significant advantage on his Morphling. As soon as he got the Aegis, White-Off gathered as 5 and destroyed the enemy barracks. Team Ukraine tried to counter-attack them by using Specter’s ult but it was not efficient.

White-Off deserved to the third spot because they pretty much “threw” the games against TNC. Hopefully, they will learn to have more respect for their enemies.

play aeon of strife, then proceed to the game which spun off of it, DotA and DotA allstars (Warcraft 3: the Frozen Throne), after you master those, throw that all out the window, and start DotA 2 which is now more than 50 versions ahead of WC3.

however if u have played lol i suggest u try out either skywrath or lion since they are skill based or tinker
if you like tanks and watch war movies i suggest u pick chaos knight or mars
if you like sci fi movies pick arc warden or faceless void
if you like drama movies pick medusa or queen of pain
if you like horror movies pick bane or night stalker
if you like samurai movies pick juggernaut or ember spirit
if you like anime pick venomancer or broodmother (for tentacle reasons)
and of course if you are completely new pick sniper and play against bots.

Omg so many trolls here. Only 2 serious answers.

Let’s make it 3. First off you should read a little about how the game works. If you know about mobas then you are half way there. Then play bots. Pick a hero and practice it a lot on bots. You can filter heroes by difficulty on the hero selection screen. Pick one of the low complexity heroes to begin with. Then once you feel like you’ve got a hero or 2 down go try unranked and see how it goes.

My biggest piece of advice is learn how to not die. It’s harder than it sounds. Good luck.

Play bot match by selecting 3 heroes (1 strength ,1 agility 1 int ).Understand the mechanics of the heroes and then keep playing them for some time until you feel comfortable with them.
After getting comfortable with them you can do
a)go for unranked games and make sure you only play using the 3 heroes u trained with.
b) go for bot matches with new heroes and increase your hero pool from 3 ->4 ->5 -> 6 . so on
and then go for option (a ) at some point.

After you feel like performing good at (a) queue for ranked matches and play with heroes in your hero pool.

Also you can watch game plays \ in You-tube / twitch that can also help you in learning the mechanics and getting feel of the game.

can’t go wrong with using a point click hero where you don’t have to have a brain to play them properly like Phantom assassin but you honestly need to understand every single hero and mechanic if you plan on even being average in dota. Unlike games like League, you cannot just hop into dota and start doing well within the first month. That just does not happen. Edit: Also spend like 100 hours playing against the bots, that will get you a good start and watching youtube videos that explains how each hero can be used in a strategic manner would be helpful as well.

sure you can, only takes 2 weeks to get 200 hours played and understand the basics. also never NEVER play bots. you can’t learn anything.

This is a flat out lie and honestly you shouldn’t be giving advice to anyone if you say that new players will learn nothing from playing bots. I can learn from playing bots right now and I have 1k+ hours into this game and I don’t play ranked but my estimated MMR is 5-6k which makes sense and is easy to see from the players that would show up in my unranked games (hint, they aren’t trash).

You can test things and learn things through that testing. That is the purpose of bots.

The top 10 most expensive Dota 2 items available on the Steam market. I explored the market to find out the skins sold fairly at a high price during September 2018.

In the market there are thousands of items sold at an inaccurate cost, often in an attempt to scam the buyers. To give credibility to this list, I included only the items that have been already traded in the past and the recent average price range.

Unusual Golden Baby Roshan

Item currently not available. From the April 2018 list.

An immortal courier awarded to players that made it in the Sugar Rush Hall of Fame during Diretide 2012.

It utilizes the same model of the standard Baby Roshan courier – listed for $2-3 – but has golden textures and effects.

Dota 2 offline non steam how to play 2014

Basically is there a way of hiding the pop up that shows you just launched a game to others on your friendlist? In case i need to hide it from a girlfriend or such how do I do this? She uses a mac I’m not sure how it pop ups on mac maybe someone can tell me: Will she only see it if steam’s store / library window is up on her screen or it pops up regardless of what she’s doing (browsing the web etc)?

It’s not that it annoys her so much we can’t be together unless i stop playing but more about her misunderstanding of gaming as a waste of time she might ask me to go do something else when I just want to play dota, I usually spend time with her after or before daily anyways and she wont mind if its work / study / even hobby related (like basketball) but if I’m gaming she thinks okk you have time to do chores with me lol.. Anyway she’s really nice just needs time to understand a gamer’s needs, till then i rather not let her know every time I’m on a game if possible.

My profile is already private but I think there will still be a pop up showing I got on a game right? Is it possible to launch as offline then go online? Will anyone be able to add me as a friend to test this for me thanks in advance.

PS. I know some will ask why she’s added me well she likes certain casual games in very little amounts like dont starve and stardew which I played with her once so yeah.

Wait so is it possible to just block her every time I wanna play something “serious” like dota? She won’t check from unlogged steam or another friends, she aint chasing me up like a detective lol, its simply when she sees me she will want to do stuff with mer instead and in those cases I cant leave a dota match and she wouldnt understand.

Basically I’m asking specically on dota because I can’t leave mid match to help her and she wouldnt understand why you know, and feel sad that I cant stop a game for her. She’s really nice and understanding with everythign else though which is why I’m sure she will understand games later on but till then I’ll have to use this method.

Calldown: Extra Supplies

Calls down additional supplies which permanently increase a Supply Depot’s supply limit by 8. This can only be used once per Supply Depot.

Usage [ edit ]

If you’re supply blocked, consider using Calldown: Extra Supplies. It is usually better than using Calldown: MULE in this case, as you cannot produce units, and it’s better to have the units out immediately. Note: This is not a steadfast rule of good play, but if you don’t know whether to MULE while supply blocked, you are probably at a playing level where it’s more important to have units than to try to do instant, long-term calculations.

Pros [ edit ]

You receive the benefit instantaneously.
No SCV is taken up in the process of building another Supply Depot.
The mineral cost is pa >Cons [ edit ]

There is no HP increase after this skill is used. This creates a high priority target for the enemy and increases your risk of getting supply blocked when surprise attacks happen.
The utility of the instantaneous benefit is short-lived and narrow compared to other abilities. Scouting with a Scan is vital in every match-up and can change how you will counter the enemy and plan attacks, which can save far more than 100 minerals. A MULE can repair your own units, be dropped into enemy Siege lines or mineral lines to kill the opponent with splash damage, or can mine. Calldown Extra Supplies gives +8 supply now, and essentially adds 100 minerals to the map.

MULE vs. Extra Supplies [ edit ]

A comparison between the MULE’s benefit of 270 minerals and Extra Supplies’ 100 minerals is not quite accurate. There are many nuances to this ability that such a comparison does not include.

Firstly, a MULE is not instant. It gives you 270 minerals over the course of 90 seconds. Though casting Supplies does not give you minerals per se, it avoids the 100 mineral cost of a Supply Depot 25 seconds ago, meaning that casting supplies is faster than instant; it is almost a preemptive 100 minerals.

In addition, a MULE robs you of future income, whereas casting Supplies has no detriment besides the opportunity cost. This is a small distinction, but an important one to understand. This would be an important addition to a super campy turtle build. If you plan to only defend until you mine out and move out with 3/3 tanks, you should be casting Supplies instead of MULE (assuming you can defend adequately). By the time you’re mined out, much more money is invested in your units than would be if you MULED steadily and built double the amount of Supply Depots.

Lastly, you do not need to pull an SCV to build a Supply Depot, like you would need to if you MULE’d. An SCV would collect about 26 minerals on an unsaturated mineral patch in the 25 seconds it would take to build the Supply Depot, plus the approx 10 seconds it would take to travel to and from that mineral patch. It is usually a mistake to have to use Extra Supplies. This statement is different from: It is usually a mistake to use Extra Supplies. If you are macroing properly and remembering Supply Depots, then MULE away. This mindset is 99% of the time the best option. However, if you are supply blocked, call down the Supplies. Do not say, [commentator/theorycrafter] says it’s bad so I shouldn’t use it. But for your next game you should make a mental note to remember to build a supply depot at 55/58, or whatever you are at, so you won’t need to use it again.

Also try not to put it on a Supply Depot that is likely to get blown up, like Supply Depots making up the wall or at the edge of your base used for vision.
