Carry heroes who have naturally low stat growth, but abilities allowing them to quickly farm, will often buy this item after their core items have been obtained. The large amount of HP and mana can keep them alive in the late game, when their natural abilities are no longer strong enough on their own to win fights.

• Slark has far lower than average stats in the late game due to low stat growth. The bonus health makes it easier to survive lategame fights, while bonus mana is enough to cast his spells constantly. The slow is also effective at keeping an enemy close to collect Essence Shift Stacks from vulnerable heroes.

  Dota 2: Reach Beta – What You Need To Know

  A couple of days ago, we announced that DotaBuff and ESL will be joining forces in order to create a new league that will mainly focus on helping the tier two players make a living of Dota 2 and potentially, getting noticed by some of the tier one organizations.

  That said, let’s take a more in-depth look at what to expect from it.

  The Beginning

  The new league will start at 7 PM CET for Europe. If any player from North America wants to take a shot, he/she has to wait until 6:00 Pacific. According to the information, the first “play session” will only last for 4 hours, whereas from tomorrow on, players will have five hours at their disposal.

  Players

  The ladder will be open to immortal players and those who received a special code at ESL One Hamburg 2019. For now, immortal players will be put into the highest division called Pinnacle. If you are not amongst them, you will have to wait for a couple of weeks until the ladder gets available.

  In order to join Reach, players have to just sign-in to reach. gg using Steam. However, in order to “proof” the Immortal medal, players have to have a DotaBuff profile. This means that you should enable the in-game option that allows third-party websites to keep track of your games.

  During the beta period, Reach will be free to play for all players that can take part in it. However, once it officially launches, there will be a $6/month or a $56/year cost. That said, if a player has a Dotabuff Plus subscription, there will be no additional costs. This is pretty cool because you essentially get two services for the price of one.

  Rankings

  As we mentioned above, players will be divided into different divisions, depending on their skills. The immortals who will be placed in the Pinnacle division will be evaluated on a “per-day” basis.

  The points distribution for them is as follows:

  • During the 1st-3rd game of the day – 6 points for a win, -4 for a loss
  • During the 4th-6th game of the day – 4 points for a win, -4 for a loss
  • After the sixth game – 2 points for a win and -2 for a loss

  This means that players have to make the most out of their first games in order to progress. Of course, it is possible to progress even past the first three games but it’s going to be harder.

  On the other hand, players put in Contender divisions will be “seeded” and have their ranks adjusted while playing.

  According to the release, this system will be in place for beta weeks, so it is subject to change in the future.

  Prizes

  The prizes will be different during the beta period and once Season 1 officially begins.

  For now, the prizes will be awarded in the form of “Sprints”, which will be divided into Weekday and Weekend sprints. The first ones will be held from Monday to Friday and only take place during the evening. On the other hand, Weekend Sprints will be played during Saturday and Sunday in Captain’s Mode.

  The Weekday Sprints will have a $1,5K USD prize pool per region, whereas the prizes for the Weekend Sprints will be $1K USD. Keep it in mind that only the top 10 players will take part in the Weekday prizes and only five in the Weekends.

  Final Thoughts

  By the looks of it, Reach is definitely a very promising league. This is one of the first big attempts to actively support the Dota 2 scene, something that Valve should have done a long time ago.

  Players should be aware that since Reach is in beta, there could be some issues. Having said that, the devs are encouraging everyone to report any bugs they find. This will help them to polish Reach and prepare it for Season 1.

  In the meantime, be sure to watch the upcoming DPC tournaments. The Summit 11 begins in just a couple of days from now and by the looks of it, it’s going to be epic.

  Even if you’ve never played it before, it’s very likely you’ve heard of Dota 2.

  10 Useful Tips to Farm Fast in Dota 2

  Farming is extremely necessary in Dota 2 even if you are a carry or just an offlane support. However, it is extremely necessary for carries to farm fast to get some considerable edge/benefit in the game. But a farmed support does not hurt too. Farming of carries and farming of support are 2 entirely different things, which I will cover in another article some other time. Here I am just going to explain how can you farm fast and good.

  Remember: Dota 2 game is not about Farming ONLY, it’s about winning.

  1. Don’t Die

  Dying means you waste your farmed gold and give to your enemy thus creating a gold and experience difference. Learn how to play safe. BurNinG, one of the legendary carry and farmer, will always stay away from creeps if he doesn’t see the gankers on the map. He knows how crucial it is if you’ll be killed in the game. This also does not mean that you should stay hidden all the time. Farm in lanes and keep your eyes on the map, if your enemies are missing from the map for more than 5-10 sec, it means, either they are coming to pick on you or they are at Roshan. In both the cases, you must think of your next move.

  2. Practice Last Hitting

  Practice will improve your timing when will you attack the creep that will guarantee sure gold. One way is playing in single player mode and try to have 100 creep kills (kills + deny) in 10 minutes. Doing this often will make you expert in last hitting thus a speedy farm in real games. Another practice can be playing against 5 Insane Bots. Bots are programmed to have perfect last hit and deny. If you can farm against 5 AI’s effectively, it would be easy for you to farm against most of the human players.

  Last hitting tower will always give extra gold, which is enough to give you a considerable farming boost.

  3. Cons >The moment your hero makes a move for attack and the moment your hero’s damage is dealt is known is hero attack animation. It can be slow (Like Dark Seer), Normal (Like most of the heroes) and Fast (Like Sniper, Faceless Void, Anti Mage etc).

  So once you have a rough idea how is our heroes attack animation, you should attack the dying creep keeping your attack animation and your damage in mind. Most of the time, melee heroes are easier because you only need to observe their hitting animation while Range heroes need to consider their distance from the creep as well as animation of the attack.

  4. Look at the Mage

  One easy way to last hit effectively is looking at the mage. Among all the creeps fighting, the mage usually has the highest damage. The mage will hit the enemy creep in constant rate so it will be easy for you to decide when to attack. After the mage attacks and you know it’ll be one blow before the creep die, it’s time for you to click it. This is effective but in some cases, it’s not. Like when you have 2 or more mages, or you have a catapult that does more damage than the mage. In this case, you have to consider the rate of hp reduction of the creep.

  5. Neutral Creeping for Extra Gold

  Neutral Creeps gives you enough amount of gold that Enigma can farm a dagger in 8 minutes. Thus, on the average, neutral creeping can give you 268 gold in one minute. Neutral Creeping also gives you additional safety from gankers. If you have wards, it’ll be harder for you to be killed. But it is never advised to leave your lane empty for enemy and farm in Jungle because this will give free farm to enemy heroes.

  6. Try to Dominate your Lane

  If you dominate a lane, chances are you’ll get a good farming time because the enemy tries to stay away from you. If you are in tri-lane, harassing can be done by your supports using normal attacks or using / casting spells and in meanwhile, carries can farm easily. In the same process, if you guess the enemy has low HP, you can also try to secure a kill to earn extra gold.

  In case you are in a solo lane or dual lane, you must use your spells wisely and must keep harassing the enemy.

  7. Rune Control

  Since 6.83 update, the importance of rune control has increased many folds. Because from now onward, runes will always spawn at both ends and out of which 1 will always be a bounty rune. Bounty rune will give you extra gold and experience. More time passes in a game, the more and experience you will get from bounty rune. Also, do not forget the renewed charges of your bottle with which you can farm more. So rune control is extremely important if you want to farm fast in Dota 2.

  Also, successful bottling will negate the effect of enemy harassing and will help you stay in lane for more time. So do not forget to buy a bottle especially if you are in mid and occasionally when you are in any other lane.

  8. Don’t Waste Gold

  Wasting gold, like buying TP and using them to teleport on a tower but it’s not that urgent to use it. It will surely slow down the rate of your farming. For example, when enemy creeps are far away from your tower. You can walk to your tower and when you reach your tower chances are the enemy creeps are just reaching your tower along with you. You saved 50 gold from impatient teleportation. TP is vital to the game but you should use it wisely, like backing up a teammate / Team fight. You’ll need 2 creeps to farm 50 gold again. Thus you’ll be delayed in farming.

  9. Use Your Skills Wisely

  Don’t rely on spamming spells to farm. Spamming spells help you push not farm. Spam spells only when needed, like if you see a big wave of enemy creeps coming, then it is a good time to use your AOE spells, instead of using your precious AOE spells and killing only 1-2 creeps. Spamming AOE spells makes you go back to the fountain back and forth because you won’t have enough mana and if meanwhile, your team needs you, you may not be of that much use to your team because of low mana or your spell on cooldown.

  10. Maximize your Map Reach

  Maximize your map reach is important to have your luxury items. Burning(EH. Gigabyte. AAA), used to farm fast by moving all over the map. So we can say like this, “where there are creeps, there your farmer goes”. Do not forget to keep an eye on enemy heroes, or else you might be walking happily into an enemy trap. If you are not able to get any farm in your lane, switching your lane to a more comfortable lane is always a good idea. Dota 2 was the first game to offer a tournament where the winning prize was 1 million US dollars. Back in its time, this was something astronomical for the players and the world went ablaze because of Dota.   On the very first start-up of Steam, you will be greeted by an update screen. This screen makes sure that the Steam client is up and ready for the latest version. The only thing that you should be careful about is not to put something else on download at the same time that could divide the download speed. If it’s outside of Steam, Steam won’t give any warnings about it and simply make do with reduced download speed.

  By default, Steam pauses downloads whenever you play a Steam game when it is downloading something. This is a very helpful feature as it takes away the troublesome method of pausing a download and then going into the game you are playing. This feature is especially useful because it also removes any unwanted lag you might feel from the downloads that are taking place. This feature is helpful in online games and can be disabled in offline games where there is no internet usage. This allows the downloads to resume in the background without affecting your gaming experience.

  in this discussion i want to ask you about your experience(s) with the new Dota 2 Linux client.

  When I played it 3 days ago I had some graphic bugs and no sound. This prevents me from playing in a public game. But when I played it today this seems to be fixed, I had neither graphic bugs nor missed any sound.

  I think I could give it a try in public match now.

  Some other things I noticed:
  – Loading time seems slightly longer
  – The font when typing into chat looks ugly (wrong scaled)

  Since most of the feedback is low performance on here I thought I’d respond so people don’t think everyone on Linux is having problems.

  The game seems to be completely flawless on Linux for me. I get great FPS, but I like to limit it to 60, so that regardless of how much action is going on my FPS stays perfectly stable at 60, and I am running it with all graphics settings at maximum (except AA which I have off).
  No graphical bugs to speak of.

  Even though I constantly see other players in the game getting disconnected or having crashes, I have not once had a crash or disconnect.

  Nvidia 630M (Proprietary driver)
  20-40 FPS, playable with a couple of interesting bugs

  Overview
  It was a lot better than i thought it would be, but there are still a couple bugs that need to be ironed out. I found that at times it seemed like i was holding down alt (couldn’t cast spells etc), even when i wasn’t. Dissipated after about 50 seconds or my death, whichever was faster. There are also strange visual glitches with all the HTML elements that dota2 uses in the main menu (element is generally replaced with a massive red triangle)

  Notable details :
  – With Sid, I had to download the nvidia binary driver on nvidia. Dota 2 test client linux operating com website in order to run steam and dota. If you’re using 64 bit, when the installer asks for installing 32 bit compatibility libraries, say yes, it’s the more important option 🙂

  – Under gnome 3, I had this morning an issue after an apt-get upgrade, my dota was launching with window decorations, and no image visible. I had to launch the game from xfce to be able to see the options and set “Fullscreen” instead of “borderless window”. When reverting on gnome, everything runs smoothly.
  – I set the game language to “french”, but even with this option, the shortcuts displayed are in qwerty keyboard.

  Not working at all. The game starts and goes fullscreen (no border, can’t switch workspaces, can’t see other windows or shift the game screen, since it’s not a window), completely black. I don’t get any sound, nothing. However, dmenu does work, so I can xkill it (otherwise, I’d have to login to another TTY).

  I’ve had problems with this graphic card before. Usually, I put games on windowed or windowed full screen, but in this case, the game doesn’t even start! Still searching for a solution.

  Problem solved! It seems it had to do with the WM. Weird things have happened with other games because of fullscreen too, so I suspected. I tried XFCE, and after a few minutes, it got working. I changed the video options to «windowed» or something alike, and it got working on xmonad.

  Also, the game complained of not having the locale en_US. UTF-8. I added it in /etc/locale. gen, did locale-gen, and problem solved.

  The graphics suck (integrated intel graphics, low low low, 20 FPS), but as far as I’ve seen (I’m in the tutorial now), it’s working. The game and some menus take a while to load. More than 30 seconds at times. It’s annoying, but bearable. At least now it’s natively available for Linux. No other problems found so far.

  Dota 2 International Twitch Chat Flooded With Anti-China Messages

  Next week, Valve will host the 2019 Dota 2 International Tournament in Shanghai. Valve set the event location a year ago, but in the wake of Hong Kong’s political protests, fans have taken to spamming the event’s Twitch chat (note: China banned Twitch last year) with support for the protestors in Hong Kong.

  Since June, protestors have taken to the streets of Hong Kong to push back against a proposed bill that would allow the government of Hong King to deport residents and foreigners to China. Hong Kong residents fear the bill could send them to China and that they would suffer unfair legal prosecution.

  The police in Hong Kong have responded to protests with extreme violence and aggression. The Chinese government has referred to the protests as “terrorism” and reports have claimed that the military might soon get involved.

  All of this has made fans of Dota 2 who support the Hong Kong protesters very upset that Valve has decided to move forward with the competition in Shanghai. In order to show solidarity with the protestors, people have flooded the Twitch chat for the streams leading into the Dota 2 event with messages and memes that rally against China’s government. The non-stop barrage has completely taken over any discussion about the events.

  As reported by Kotaku, Dota 2 has a huge presence in China, and Valve, like Bethesda did with Fallout, has made some big moves recently to support the Chinese community. When the company announced the Shanghai location last year, the city government said they felt “honored” and that they would offer their “full support.” The protests had not yet started at that time.

  Now, it seems fans would have preferred that Valve take a political stand against China in the wake of this new bill. Instead, according to comments on Reddit, the moderators for the event have taken to banning certain phrases and words from the event chat in order to discourage the barrage of political messages. Users have gotten banned for using the phrases “Tiananmen Square” (which references the famous historical event in Chinese history) and “Winnie the Pooh” (a nickname used to mock China’s president Xi Jinping).

  This whole mess has escalated quickly and the event hasn’t even begun yet. It seems as if online protestors will continue pushing up to and throughout the tournament for Valve to cancel the event and host it elsewhere. It remains to be seen if the main event will go on as scheduled on August 20th. Valve has taken a stance on Dota 2 tournaments before, so look for an official response soon.

  Fantasy Dota

  Fantasy Dota is a feature that lets players create their own team of professional players within a Fantasy League, and compete with other players in the league based on points earned by their team. Points are earned whenever a professional player participates in any Tournament match. It is similar to Fantasy Baseball.

  Various in-game rewards can be earned by participating in Fantasy Dota. Dota 2 fantasy team picks Dota Plus members may earn shards by participating in Fantasy Dota for the Dota Pro Circuit.
