Dota 2: The 10 Best Heroes of Patch 7.19

Valve has announced that Dota 2’s 7.20 patch will be coming very soon, just as soon as the Kuala Lumpur Major ends. With another patch on the horizon, let’s look back on 7.19 and the heroes that thrived in it.

#1 – Riki

Win rate – 57.77, Pick rate – 22.60, KDA Ratio – 3.2

Riki tops our list as the new king of the pubs mostly thanks to buffs to his Blink Strike ability, letting him slip in and out of combat and harass his opponents effectively. While his innate invisibility gives him the advantage in lower skill brackets, it isn’t invincibility. Riki can still be shut down with true sight, but it’s harder to keep him down thanks to the currently prevailing pace of play extending games for much later. While he may not stand up as well to most other hard carries, Riki can still take out enemy supports almost instantly, which can make all the difference in the late game.

#2 – Spectre

WR – 56.36, PR – 16.11, KDAR – 3.78

Spectre continues her ascendancy over the other hard carries in the game that was in full display back in The International 2018. As proven by the TI8 champions OG, any team with a Spectre on it will win late, no matter how far behind they may be. This is much more evident in pub play, where teams are usually not coordinated enough to close a game out quickly before Spectre comes online in the late game. The only problem, as always, is holding out long enough to get there.

#3 – Centaur Warrunner

WR – 56.17, PR – 7.12, KDAR – 2.9

Centaur Warrunner remains an unorthodox pick for the offlane, as evidenced by him having the second lowest pick rate of the heroes on our list. While it will be hard for him to thrive without a lane partner or the midlaner coming over for a gank or two, Centaur can become very self-sufficient once he gets his core items up. While Blink Dagger is still a crucial pick-up to be the initiator, some players have begun delaying getting it in favor of more survivability items and relying on just outlasting opponents in fights. Though unorthodox, Centaur can be a very potent offlaner if you can make him work in your lineup.

#4 – Zeus

WR – 55.93, PR – 20.76, KDAR – 3.79

No matter how squishy he may be, Zeus’ sheer damage output alone can make him a good core pick. Add to that his increased global presence thanks to his new Nimbus ability granted by Aghanim’s Scepter, and he can be an unlikely pub terror. The additional 0.5 second ministun on his Lightning Bolt from his Level 20 talent provides even more stopping power, but at the cost of foregoing a 15% cooldown reduction. As always Black King Bar will nullify all that he can do, but he can deal more hurt than ever once the magic immunity wears off.

#5 – Wraith King

WR – 55.37, PR – 15.09, KDAR – 3.38

Wraith King’s old reputation as a one-dimensional right click hero belies the surprising (for some) versatility he now possesses. Aside from what we all already know about him, WK’s newish ability to raise spooky, scary skeletons can still catch some players off-guard when confronted one-on-one. A newfound niche at the 3 spot in higher skill level games also highlights his ability to ensure make fights last longer than enemies would intend, thanks to his Agh’s upgrade, does him good too. Even as most can win with him by just right clicking away, he brings more than just that to the table.

#6 – Chaos Knight

WR – 54.84, PR – 7.42, KDAR – 2.72

Unorthodoxy has always come with playing as Chaos Knight, and that touches on more than him having the third-lowest pick rate of our Top 10. While most carries are busy farming creeps, CK relies on a steady diet of hero kills to keep himself afloat. While recent changes to Bounty Rune spawn timings essentially killed a creative roaming CK strategy, it led to players sticking with the tried and true way of playing as him. As always, CK is virtually unstoppable with a damage item, BKB, and a lucky roll on Phantasm. But that won’t always be the case.

#7 – Ursa

WR – 54.59, PR – 13.97, KDAR – 2.88

Ursa will almost always be a good pick with his ability to take Roshan much, much earlier than other heroes. While his strengths are best suited to overpowering opponents in lower skill level games, picking him in higher skill level games is more feasible too since he’s now flexible enough to be played at 3 or 4 spot. Though the favored pace of play goes against him, as his effectiveness goes down the longer a game drags on. Still, he’s a pretty safe hero to have in your lineup at times.

#8 – Vengeful Spirit

WR – 54.50, PR – 9.51, KDAR – 2.33

Vengeful Spirit has always been one of those stalwart heroes that perform well across all skill levels even as patches come and go. One of the big reasons is her versatility, being one of the few heroes that can be played in all five positions without giving up too much of an advantage to the enemy. Another is her great all-around skillset that will always contribute for her team, having someone that can stun enemies, reduce their armor, and force them out of position all while boosting the team’s damage is always a boon.

#9 – Undying

WR – 54.09, PR – 5.86, KDAR – 2.78

Many would have surely been surprised to see Undying here, as he is rarely picked yet often thought of as just a mere annoyance. The thing that most people fail to see is that’s just what he’s supposed to do, Undying annoys you… to death. He can win lanes by spamming Decay, give his team the advantage in teamfights with Tombstone and Flesh Golem, and provide burst heal or damage with Soul Rip. Those abilities won’t do much by themselves, but things get scary once Undying gets them all off. Just imagine this: you’re chasing down a support Undying in a teamfight while being slowed down by Tombstone, then just as you’re about to land the killing blow, he gets a Soul Rip off to survive, then he turns things around by popping Flesh Golem and Decay. You were too busy being annoyed as he slaps you down and spams his taunts to literally dance around your grave.

#10 – Axe

WR – 53.82, PR – 19.99, KDAR – 2.39

Axe’s pick rate rose after TI8, where OG featured him in one of their legendary comebacks on their way to the championship. His winrate naturally rose too, but not as much as people would expect. He’s still very effective in lower skill level games but falls off hard the higher up the matchmaking ladder you go. Most still stick with the old way of playing him by having him initiate fights with Blink Dagger and expecting him to just stand and deliver. But nowadays players have found a more effective way to use him: no longer just the initiator, Axe can also counter-initiate by disrupting enemies from ganging up on his teammates, then weaving and bobbing in and out of the fight. He still absorbs damage for his team while dishing it out to his enemies as always, but it’s better to have him do it in short bursts and in critical moments in a fight.

Hero that can solo Roshan at an early level as > Ask Question

Aside from Ursa, is there any hero that can solo Roshan at an early level, like level 6 or at least below level 10?

12 Answers 12

Asides from Ursa, some of the better heroes for soloing Roshan from levels 6-10 are:

Enigma: Using Eidolons and a Medallion of Courage. You may also need a Soul Ring to keep your mana pool up. The idea here is to cast cast Medallion on him to reduce his armor to greatly increase your Eidolons’ DPS. As MadCom mentions below, Medallion doesn’t proc Roshan’s spell shield so you don’t have to worry about him blocking it.

Nature’s Prophet: Using Treants and a Medallion of Courage. Use Sprout in the Roshan pit for trees to use. A Ring of Basilius will help your Treants tank Roshan more easily.

Shadow Shaman: Using Mass Serpent Wards. With careful placement of the wards by the edge of the Roshan pit, you can kite Roshan with your hero as the wards hit him.

Venomancer: Using Plague Wards. Like with Shadow Shaman’s wards, kiting Roshan is the key. Plague Wards used to block Roshan so you could create a wall between him and Venomancer, but that is no longer the case.

Lycan: Using his wolves and a Vladimir’s Offering. Shift aggro appropriately to tank damage.

Lone Druid: Using his bear and a Vladimir’s Offering. Shift aggro appropriately to tank damage.

Troll Warlord: With points into Fervor and Battle Trance and either Vladimir’s Offering or a Helm of the Dominator. It’s also recommended you switch into melee form for faster attack speed, health, and damage (also, Vladimir’s Offering wouldn’t work if you were in ranged form anyways).

I agree drow can easily do rosh with lifesteal after level 6 but its risky and takes awhile. For pub games under 3k; Ursa can solo rosh at level 3 or 4 with 2 stout shields and a morbid mask. skill build should be 0 2 2. lvl 3 is risky as its dependent on how many bashes roshan gets but lvl 4 is guaranteed. Juggernaut can solo rosh after he gets a MOM and atleast 900hp with points going towards healing wards and crit. PA can do the same as Jug at lvl 9 with max blur and some kind of tanking/hp item like pms, 4 gauntlets etc. you could stop in between and salve up if rosh gets too many bashes. Hope this helps 🙂

Troll Warlord can solo roshan, just use and use his rampage.

Invoker is able to with 4 points into Quas and Exort for double forge spirits.

He has to have his units all split the damage taken.

Here is a video where the guy buys Helm of the Dominator.

And controls a 4th guy to tank it.

It’s more efficient to buy a medallion for the – armor and 2 or 3 salves (tank with your hero until half health, then heal up while minions split damage) since Invoker doesn’t hit hard enough for a Satanic to be worthwhile. Also medallion is usable on enemy heroes who die extremely fast then to forge spirit focus fire.

Try Drow. If you have a well equipped L8+ Drow, she can kite and kill Roshan. You need to rush in and start pelting Roshan with ice arrows (Drow’s orb). When Roshan gets too close, back off and let it retreat. Then attack it again. Repeat till dead.

I’ve been able to solo Roshan with Nature’s Prophet at level 10. Although it’s not been as quick and easy as soloing it with Ursa. Dota 2 solo roshan heroes
At level 10 you should have ability points spent like this:

  • Sprout : 2
  • Teleportation : 3
  • Nature’s Call : 4
  • Wrath of Nature : 1

And you should have bought Ring of Basilius (that adds an armor bonus aura to nearby allies) in order to give a slightly more armor bonus to your Treant.
The generic tactic is using your Treants to tank Roshan, and with Nature’s Call at level 5, you can spawn 5 Treants every 37 seconds. Also you can combo-cast Sprout and Nature’s Call in order to position your Treants faster.
Otherwise, if you would like to save more mana, you can move in the nearby jungle and cast Ns’C there, then moving into Roshan with your trees.
It will take some time to kill Roshan this way, but you could be able to do it without moving back to the base to recover your mana. Dota 2 solo roshan heroes

Rasta can easily kill rosh at level 6. If you can put the wards nicely (able to block him) then you can just go near him and then attack rosh. What happens is rosh will try to attack you (not the wards). But you are out of his range so he will just keep tryin to attack you until he dies.

A level 6 drow under 8minutes can take Roshan with a MOM quite easily. No kiting needed, just stand at entrance and activate MOM when he turns to run back to maximize effectiveness. +3 in Aura and +1 in Ult, can probably do with less in aura would just take a bit longer. It can also help to eat a tango before running into the pit.

Veno can solo rosh at lvl 10, without taking damage, with gale lvl2, then wards and sting maxed, you’ll need 2 Voidstones and a blink, then all the Clarity pots you can buy and maybe a Manaboot.

Get up on the ridge, start up a clarity, place down wards, use Gale to aggro him and keep it up.

Make sure your stupid teammates dont get into a teamfight while youre doing this, because you wont have enough mana to initiate if you cut off halfway. I’ll do it sometime and post the match id, then give the time I start it.

You will not be able to attack directly while doing it this way, unless you blink around and right click him every 13 seconds, which is faster, but riskier.

Make sure you blink in to get the XP at the end.

best hero to solo roshan very fast is ursa. Dota 2 solo roshan heroes He only needs morbid mask to kill roshan. I could kill roshan with morbid mask in 4th minute of game and my lvl was 4.

Ok first I would like to state the obvious heroes that can solo rosh before level 10 as of 6.84:

Lycan

Lycan is considered the number 2 solo roshan hero after Ursa. Dota 2 solo roshan heroes With lifesteal you should be able to kill rosh without trouble.

Troll Warlord

This hero can do it with enough farm. With his ulti and Helm of the dominator, and maybe half a yasha, this hero should be able to take rosh on pretty early.

Juggernaut

With his healing ward and lifesteal he should definitely be able to solo roshan at level 9.

Lifestealer

Again with enough farm this should be possible before level 10.

Enchantress

This might sound weird but if you max untouchable, Roshan will have no attack speed at all. You can easily tank this with even a morbid mask(good item anyway since this hero is build with Mask of Madness sometimes). Of course you also have nature’s attendant and you can have creeps with you in the roshan pit to tank/deal damage. Trust me this works.

Now besides this I’d like to state that most heroes with the ability to summon creeps(Nature’s prophet, Lone druid, etc) could also solo Roshan before level 10 considering they have normal farm.

Heroes with good farm before level 10 that can solo Roshan are most of the agility carries with lifesteal like Phantom Assassin, Faceless void(maybe) can kill roshan before level 10.

This might not work but I’ve seen someone actually kill Roshan with Shadow Shaman. Shadow Shaman would get onto the cliff of the roshan pit, summon the serpent wards, use his first ability and then shackle while the serpent wards attack roshan. I dont think this is possible before level 10 since you only have level 1 serpent wards. Just wanted to note this here though.

How to watch Dota 2’s The International, the biggest esports event of the year

Nearly $25 million is on the line at this year’s tournament.

Even though Fortnite streams and Overwatch leagues seem to be grabbing all the headlines these days, the great grandparent of modern esports competitions, The International, is still the biggest esports event of the year. Since 2011, the world’s biggest Dota 2 tournament has drawn huge audiences. One of the biggest reasons: It has, by far, the biggest prize pool of any esports tournament, currently sitting at roughly $24.5 million — and that sum is likely to go up before the main event begins Monday, Aug. 20.

The International starts with a prize pool of $1.6 million, but Valve offers a Battle Pass for $10 to all players that lets them earn rewards by playing while the competition is going on. Players can earn things like new character skins, new in-game announcer voices, item skins and more. Twenty-five percent of the cost of each Battle Pass is then added to the prize pool over the course of the event. As it stands now, the winning team would take home over $10 million.

The International has already gone through several early rounds, but next week we move into the main event, which runs from August 20 to Friday, August 25.

Fortnite didn’t invent the battle pass, after all.

What is Dota 2?

For those who are unfamiliar with the game, Dota 2 is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game where two teams of five players square off on a large map, each with a home base (called an Ancient). The two teams go to battle to try to ultimately destroy the other team’s Ancient and win the game.

Though it might sound easy, it’s an extremely complex game that’s difficult to learn and extremely hard to master. There are more than 100 heroes to choose from, each with a suite of unique special abilities. As you play, you earn gold you can use to buy items over the course of the game that will add to your stats and abilities. Knowing which items to buy and combine to maximize your hero’s powers takes time to learn, and that’s before you even talk about the strategy of controlling battle lanes, how to engage in battles with your specific hero against different heroes and how to work with a team to control the playing field and finally destroy your opponents’ Ancient.

With all that said, when a team knows what it’s doing, a match can turn on a dime making a tournament between pro teams especially exciting. And since The International is the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year, there’s a good chance you’ll be watching the best of the best.

How to watch the International

There are a few different ways to get in on the action. You can watch live through Steam Broadcasting, get on Twitch (no login required) or go to a place near where you live that hosts Pubstomp events. But the best way to watch, especially if you already play the game, is to watch from within the Dota 2 client itself.

By watching from within the game, you can change cameras at will, follow specific players if you have favorites, and you can listen to a multicast in English, Chinese or Russian that offers up highlights of matches as they’re being played.

Or, if you happen to be lucky enough to find yourself in the possession of a ticket to the in-person event, The International will be held at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. Dota 2 the international 2013 live stream

Game time: 3:20:34

Good god, we’ll be watching this game till the fucken Cristmas.

oh loook most overpowered lategame hero in the radiant team

theres no way cloud9 wins this legit way

void or specter?

awww my gaaawd. 165 minutes, my eyes bleed .

this game has gone on so long that weird animations on the map that i didnt know about have triggered . what is this?
Brisle on fire?

ok i have a question
what syndrome does that caster have? odpixel or whatever. he sounds insanely retarded
also, what is that shit on radiants middle lane, and the fire shit

WHY IS BRISLEBACK ON FIRE?

why is everyone on fire

they are all on fire .

GG map started falling apart

lmao everyone is on fire, and there is a gateway to heaven instead of radiant barracks

why bristle looks like king of hell?

I wonder how much this will go on. C9 cant win legit, they need some trick but ftw dis is not magic. either sfz cant force buyback..

HOLY FUCKING WOW THEY DID IT!!

LIKE FUCKING HOLY SHIT THEY ACTUALLY DID IT!!

OOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMFFFFFFFFFGGGGGGGGGGGGGG THEY DID IT

that dagon from clock lol

GG sfz. Didnt seen the buyback force, I was on forum. How did they actually forced C9 buybacks and made it to their base?

I checked the end
C9 diserved the lose.

HOW THE FUCK CANN’T THEY HAVE 5 NECRO + 5 MANTA and send all creep /illu bot, while going top .

just realized on that pic posted am saying quiling blade dropped here at 169 min in lmao

I have failed to find a bigger retard in the whole professional Dota than EE.

EE needs to find a team where he isn’t the captain.

They just needed to rekill heroes who used bbacks (3of them at one point) even if it costs all their lives, and just rebuy and do 5v3 or 5v2.
I dno, guess it aint easy making sound calls 3 hours in.

there is no way to win agaisnt 6 sloted sniper in lategame scenario where he is defending throne

that hero is way 2 broken right now only way to win agaisnt sniper is to deal with him early game

teams liek secret firstban sniper

They killed him once with clock. Could have done again.
They had good heroes to jump with /clock puck am. Their focus just went to shit after playing for so long.

thanks misery for breaking that record again

I just went to eat something quick and it finally happens after 2 fuckin hours.

^3 fucking hours*

Felt like our throne defense havoc? 😀

But seriously, not even sniper can defend the 10 necro + 10 manta push, easy mega creep, and then it’s getting easier, put clock to disable sniper.

You have just no right to lose a team, when this team while being fullstuff cann’t even go out of the base if you don’t play like a shit

Why did Notail keep his 1 charge drum 3 hour in btw? He had over 10K gold.

idk i probably wouldn’t even think about thing like that in game where only 1 rax stands

especialy considering they were tying for 3 hours they were pretty tired

probably they will learn and next time they will deal with it other way 😀

Not the first time they’ve had a super long game though.
3 months ago they lost a 2 hour game against ASUS. Polar, and there was a really long game against Alliance a few months before (but ended in draw because of network issues).

Yeh and misery had the previous world record (in which he also lost). One would think c9 would be good late game because of envy but apparently not

so antimage wants quiling blade 2 hours in?

Im watching atm http://www. twitch. tv/dotastarladder_en rebrocast of this, someone explain what is happening with the map and why half heroes are on burning with the fire around?

Particles are going crazy because there are too many things loaded in game or something shit like this. E. g. casted spells, items and shits

I mean C9 is clearly the higher skilled team, they could just let SFZ win and still stomp them in the next game.

thats what they did lol

completely obliterated them in game 3 with no mercy

That match cures ppl with insomnia

I guess im fuckin noob, but still can’t figure out why stats are better than spell shield playing against disruptor, es and zeus. why did vagina keep a single point until level 22? How’s +6 stats better than +24% spell res?

^it’s +8% magic res. Basically turning your 44.50% magic resistance to 50%. It’s really strong at level 1, but scales badly and actually gives less ehp if you don’t take over 1200 magic damage. Late game when his hp was higher he was taking a lot more damage from sniper and bristle though, so it wouldn’t make much difference (except maybe the part he had a heart).

Cignal Ultra’s internet issues cause anti-climatic Dota 2 Leipzig Major SEA qualifiers

Fnatic, Reality Rift, and TNC Predator booked their tickets to Leipzig.

This article is brought to you by StatBanana, the best Dota 2 strategy tool.

Fnatic, Reality Rift, and TNC Predator have qualified for Dota 2’s DreamLeague Season 13, the Leipzig Major. TNC’s qualification for the Major came after an ongoing typhoon in the Philippines prevented their opponents, Cignal Ultra, from reconnecting to the game.

Fnatic enjoyed an undefeated run throughout the qualifiers, facing perennial rivals TNC to decide who would obtain the first slot to the Leipzig Major. TNC, despite being fresh off their MDL Chengdu Major win, succumbed quickly to Fnatic. The Filipino champions looked off their game and were a step behind Fnatic the entire series. Fnatic quickly seized their chance and became the first team to secure a slot at the upcoming Major. They’ll look to improve on their disappointing debut foray at the MDL Chengdu Major, where they finished in the bottom half of the field.

Reality Rift, one of the qualified teams, is a newcomer to the Southeast Asian scene. Having formed in 2019, they failed to qualify for both the first Major and Minor this season. They replaced one of their players and it was enough to make Reality Rift look renewed throughout the DreamLeague qualifiers. They even beat TNC in the group stage. After defeating Cignal Ultra in the playoffs, the roster secured their maiden Dota Pro Circuit tournament and will look to turn heads on the big stage.

The third-place decider was played between TNC and Cignal Ultra to determine the last ticket to the DreamLeague Major. A tense series ensued, with both teams splitting one apiece before heading to the final game. But the typhoon that’s ravaging the Philippines right now proved to be Cignal Ultra’s bane, causing them to disconnect for over 20 minutes.

TNC Predator 🇵🇭 on Twitter

It was a bit anticlimactic with the pertinent disconnection issue but the boys end up qualifying to the #DreamLeague Leipzig Major. GGs to Cignal Ultra and goodluck to them and to the other teams vying for a spot at the Bukovel Minor. #StrongerTogether #SummonYourStrength

The chat log revealed that Cignal went past their allocated pause time, which is up to 10 minutes per team. TNC waited for an extra 10 minutes, essentially burning their own pause time. After 20 minutes, Cignal were still unable to reconnect and TNC unpaused the game.

The admin’s handling of the situation has drawn flak from the Dota 2 community. Ben “noxville” Steenhuisen, a statistician for pro Dota 2, called out the admin for not performing his duty and forcing TNC to “look like villains.”

Ben Steenhuisen on Twitter

I really like Attari, but this is a very poor admin decision. This situation is well-defined within the rules, and the admin should follow these defined rules and unpause – not create a situation where TNC need to (publicly) agree to a pause else look like villains.

Regardless, the decision for TNC to go through will stand. Cignal’s last shot at the Major will be winning the upcoming Bukovel Minor. Cignal and three other SEA teams—Geek Fam, Boom Esports, and Neon Esports—will join the Minor qualifiers, which will be played on Dec. 5 and 6.

To extract game models from Dota 2 game you will need to download GCFScape program.

After install, launch GCFScape and follow next steps:

  • Click File >>Open
  • Find and open pak01_dir. vpk file in your “Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota” directory
  • Select materials, models, particles and sound directories.
  • Click Right-Mouse-Button and select extract
  • Select directory, where you want see extracted files (For example, I created “update” folder for extracted files in Source Filmmaker directory – “Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\update“).

Once extracting process will be finished, go to that directory that you have selected for file extraction.

To do next steps, you need to download Notepad++ program.
Link: http://notepad-plus-plus. org/download

After install, launch Notepad++ and follow next steps.

  • Click Search>>Find in Files.
  • Find what:CustomHero || Replace with:VertexLitGeneric || Filters:*.vmt
  • Than you need to specify the path to the materials folder. This folder is located in directory, where you have your extracted files. (In my example, it is – “Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\update\materials“)
  • Check the box In all sub-folders
  • Click Replace in Files >> Notepad++ will ask you: “Are you sure?”; Click OK
  • After this action, you will need to do next search in the same(materials) directory: Find what:GlobalLitSimple || Replace with:VertexLitGeneric || Filters:*.vmt

Materials fix now is finished.

Go to your Steam client and follow next steps:

  • Go to Library >>All software >>Source Filmmaker and click Launch button
  • Select Launch SDK
  • Click Create New Mod or Add Existing Mod
  • Enter name for your mod (For example: dota2models). Click Create button and then 2 times OK button.
  • Go to directory that you have selected for file extraction.
  • Select all folders(materials, models, particles, sound) and press Ctrl+C or Right-Click and Copy button.
  • Go to “Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\dota2models” directory and Paste with replacement.

Now you are ready to work!

Now you can go to Steam client and launch Source Filmmaker!

After your SFM has been started, make some name for a session: click Create and File>>Load map*.

Now you are ready to load some Dota 2 model and create your own clips or movies!

If you do not know how to use Source Filmmaker and create animation, please watch these official tutorials from Valve SFM team: http://www. youtube. com/playlist? list=PL2B46DEB4157E67C4

*You can load only Team Fortress 2 maps or maps that have been created via Hammer Editor from SFM SDK or Source SDK. It is means, that Dota 2 map is not available at this time in Source filmmaker. But you can use hero models, map props and different particles to make your clips.

[OG] M4’s guide to All Random Deathmatch (updated for 6.84c)

[OG] M4’s guide to All Random Deathmatch (updated for 6.84c)

1. Introduction
2. Fine Print
3. Items
4. Heroes

Introduction

ARDM is fricking great. If you like being on your feet and want to play well with a variety of heroes, this is the mode for you.

The mode is like regular Dota, except that you spawn a new random hero when you die. New heroes retain levels, gold and items.

There are two victory conditions (push or get 45 kills), so the game’s overall strategy can be different from the normal game. Teamfights happen more often, and Dagon is popular. The game can reach a point where push becomes secondary to simply getting pick-offs.

Fine Print

  • You can swap heroes at the beginning of the game. You cannot repick. No hero spawns twice.
  • If you deny an ally or yourself, or go die to a neutral creep, the enemy doesn’t get the XP/Gold, but you still lose one of your 45 lives.
  • Players who cannot respawn anymore (when the team has run out of lives) can still buy and drop shareable items like Observer Ward s, Bottle , Perseverance , and Gem of True Sight for the surviving team.
  • If someone dies and abandons, you cannot sell their items.
  • If someone abandons and their hero is alive, you can sell their items.
  • If someone disconnects/abandons, you can use their hero, but if that hero dies, they don’t respawn until they reconnect.
  • Visage ‘s Familiars die when the main hero dies, but otherwise most non-hero units and wards such as Nature’s Prophet ‘s treants, Holy Persuasion creeps, Lycan ‘s wolves, Templar Assassin ‘s traps survive after death.
  • Legion Commander ‘s stolen damage does not stay after death, nor does Silencer ‘s stolen intelligence or Pudge ‘s fatty stacks.
  • Vengeful Spirit ‘s negative aura only stays until the Venge player respawns.
  • Alchemist ‘s Aghanim’s Scepter buff does not stay if Alchemist or the buff recipient dies.

Items

Items to counter

A list of items by popularity. This is so you know what to watch out for, and possibly pick:

  • Dagon – Probably the most popular item in this mode, although it’s very hit or miss, especially if rushed too early without enough survivability/damage items.
  • Blink Dagger – when their Lich or Brewmaster teamwipes you and buys a Dagger, he is impossible to catch till the end of the game. This is probably the first big item you should get.
  • Hand of Midas – A lot of people rush M >Linken’s Sphere / Lotus Orb – Btw, medallion of courage DOES NOT break Linken’s. If it’s late enough in the game that all fights are 5v5 and you don’t anticipate being Dagoned by surprise, Lotus Orb serves you better than Linken’s.
  • Shadow Blade / Glimmer Cape – very annoying, and at worst puts a money strain on the enemy to buy detection.

Items that are likely to make you win

  • Dagon
  • Blink Dagger
  • Orchid Malevolence
  • Radiance
  • Linken’s Sphere
  • Assault Cuirass
  • Shadow Blade
  • Helm of the Dominator
  • Drum of Endurance
  • Vladmir’s Offering
  • Tranquil Boots – very useful if you roam a lot (and you should)
  • Arcane Boots
  • Heart of Tarrasque
  • Crimson Guard
  • Blademail
  • Bloodstone

Items that are likely to make you lose

  • Mask of Madness – It’s okay if you bought it when you were Faceless Void , but you have to resist the urge to turn it on when you’re chasing someone as Zeus .
  • Aghanim’s Scepter – if farmed too early in a game that you are already losing
  • Dagon – if farmed too early in a game that you are already losing
  • Battle Fury – if farmed too early in a game that you are already losing

Troll Strategy

Many people rush Hand of Midas and Dagon with some form of boots, and if the game goes in their favour they get fat on stolen kills and win easy. It’s a risky strat but worth a try.

hexOr: ‘I never thought my channel would become as big as it is’

Hi hexOr! On behalf of the GosuGamers and Dota community, I would like to thank you for accepting the interview and congratulate you for winning the Goldenhall Dubai Dota 2 LAN. For those who do not know, can you introduce yourself?

Hello GGnet! For the people who don’t know me yet, I am a German Dota 2 player and also moviemaker.

Can you care to share your experience with us on the tournament which your team has won recently?

It was an amazing experience for us of course, especially being at Dubai for the first time, but also to be given the opportunity to play in a real gaming hall and on top of that winning the tournament. Therefore we did not regret to take the trip to Dubai and we are pretty happy about how everything turned out.

As your team has just competed and won your first LAN, how do you feel about your team? Do you have any set goals?

Well, currently we don’t have a stable 5-men lineup, but we are looking forward to create an all German Dota 2 team. As soon as our line-up is stable, we will of course be looking forward to participate in as many tournaments as we can. How much further it goes from there will depend on how we perform.

When creating your team, was it important for you to play with friends? Was that something that tore the old ICCup apart?

In my opinion it is normal that you prefer to play with your friends, but the main factor was the language problems. It is very hard to play with 4 people who speak a language you don’t understand, so it was more or less obvious that we would go separate ways in the future.

You are now called “The Avengers”. Is there any special meaning to it or is it just based off the movie?

The name was originally made for our mix-team for the tournament in Dubai. We decided to keep the name, because we actually liked it :). Concerning the meaning of it, it is basically based off the movie “The Avengers”.

Could you tell us about playing with PGG?

I guess it is better for both parts, if I don’t comment on that question :).

How would you rate the German scene, its players and its progression during the past months?

Well, in my opinion there was still no real progression during the past months, in my opinion it is still the same like it used to be – Germans need to take the game more serious in order to be successful, both online as well as international events.

Can you share with us your Gamescom experience (WCG Qualifier and SEE)?

It was fun, even though we only ended up being on 3rd place we enjoyed the time there, because it was a cool event, especially if you can play there with friends you’ve known for a very long time. It was also very interesting to talk to other people and also get to know each other better, e. g. Wagamama (at that time Infused).

Moving on to your video making/editing career. How time consuming is it?

“It is indeed very time consuming, but I like to do it besides my real job and Dota 2. Most of the times, it is hard to keep my channel active, but I am trying my best to provide some cool videos as much as possible to my loyal fans and of course also to everyone else who likes to watch my videos.

Can you share with us your experience from being a total beginner at movie making to becoming who you are today?

Honestly, I just started to simply cut my Pudge scenes together and I wouldn’t have thought that this channel would become as big as it is nowadays, so I am pretty happy with the result now, because like I said, it was not even my initial goal to become this big. It is definitely an experience that has affected my life. I’ve learned a lot, just by being criticized and learning from my mistakes, getting constant feedback from the community. Moreover, it also helps me with my real-life job, because I manage my social media platforms everyday which is also an important aspect I am confronted with in my company.

You mentioned constant feedback. How do you cope with criticism and haters?

Nowadays my feedback, likes etc, is about 95-99% positive, so to be honest I don’t care too much about haters, because there will always be haters 🙂 and constructive criticism is good, it is in my opinion not negative. However, I don’t get such a good feedback all the time, sometimes there are also videos which people don’t like. If some of them put constructive criticism in the comments, I might be able to improve the quality of the further videos, which is very important to provide the best quality all the time.

Blurpi has recently returned to the movie making scene. How would you describe yours and his editing style?

Let’s start with Blurpi. Blurpi is one of the best Moviemakers I ever worked with. He is very experienced and as far as I can remember he is also visiting a Motion Graphics >Luck Is No Excuse 2 , which was also time-consuming and a lot of work and with a lot of ideas, I rather edit my videos clean, so people can follow the actions better, without too many effects and camera spins.

You have been a movie maker ever since DotA: Allstars. Could you describe how movie making has changed with Dota 2?

Well to be honest, and I guess I am speaking for most of the moviemakers, Dota 2 still misses a “Simple Cam” to get smooth 360 degrees turnarounds which look very good, e. g. a slowmo Tide ultimate (camera flies 360 degrees around all the units), I don’t think that it is possible in Dota 2 to move the camera free, without any limits concerning the movements and angles, and that is pretty sad.

Would you ever consider doing something like helical did – making videos for a Dota 2 team (other than yours of course)?

Do you plan to continue your career as a Dota movie maker or move on to being a full-time professional gamer?

To be honest, I don’t want to lose my real life job and I also don’t want to just throw away my YouTube-Channel and everything, so I will stick to those 2 for 100%, which means that it won’t be possible for me to be a “full-time professional gamer”. However, that doesn’t mean that I will stop playing Dota 2 on a high level, because we are actually planning to get into the competitive Dota 2 scene with our German team, again.

What are your personal goals as a movie maker/proplayer?

As a Moviemaker: Doing more videos, becoming more known, reaching more of the Dota 2 community, satisfying my fans with better quality in future videos, maybe also getting a new partnership e. g. with a huge company
Proplayer: Getting back to the competitive scene with an all german Dota 2 team (AVENGERS).

You have probably reached a possible milestone on becoming more famous, seeing as you partnered up with Gamersbook. What can we expect from this partnership?

Yes! To be honest, this partnership is only a few days old, but it seems also good so far. We are talking a lot to each other about giveaways to the community and also videos in cooperation. Let’s see how well this goes in 2013! Personally, I’m looking forward to this :).

If you had to give advice to new movie makers, what would you tell them?

Try to learn from the best and fuck the rest!

Thank you for the interview, any shoutouts?

Thanks! Shoutouts to all my mates I ever played with in Dota 1 and also Dota 2, to all my loyal fans, friends and to the people who support me.
