ESPN E60: WWE Behind the Curtain

ESPN aired a 1-hour documentary centering around 3 wrestlers in the Performance Centre/NXT and their struggles to make it in WWE: Ray Leppan (Adam Rose), Austin Watson (Xavier Woods) and Matt Polinsky (Corey Graves). No kayfabe, as they look at how WWE create & develop new talent. To current fans it’s kinda dated, as half of it was shot in 2013 and the main follow-up footage ends in early 2014 – 16 months ago. Here’s my thoughts on the 3 stories:

RAY LEPPAN (Leo Kruger/Adam Rose)
The best story. Most of it is with ‘Leo Kruger’, Leppan’s original FCW gimmick, and how it wasn’t getting over. On the show they say that it’s his character that wasn’t clicking (that it wasn’t believable since he’s a nice guy), whilst in reality it was his wrestling skills. After 4 years in developmental and at 35 years old, he’s asked to completely change his gimmick. His story ends with his NXT debut of Adam Rose (which gets over) and Aitch congratulating him. Hilariously Rose looks for a double high five and H holds both his hands instead! Of course although he’s still on the main roster, he’s still struggling. I’d be worried he’s for the chop but this ESPN docu might stave that off for a while.
He’s put over as a strong family man, his youngest (at the time) being born with an omphalocele (where a defect in the abdominal wall causes intestines/organs to develop in a sac outside his body). His son Maverick is born and has many surgeries; and the piece ends with his first day of Kindergarten. This piece is easily the best thing that’s ever happened to Leppan’s character, you really hope he does well after seeing the docu.

AUSTIN WATSON (Xavier Woods)
The main point is that Woods is studying whilst wrestling, he wants to be the first wrestler with a Ph. D (in Educational Psychology), and he’s studying while being an active wrestler. At a production meeting, Cole nails it by bringing up getting him a role as a representative of the company. This is an extremely smart play by Woods – an active black wrestler with a Ph. D is huge positive press for WWE and will hopefully get him a job in the WWE for a long time. I always think of the time Woods was on RAW commentary mentioning his Ph. D, and JBL taking a genuinely surprised and inquisitive interest in it. They show a cut-out of him in TNA as Consequences Creed, and a prior gimmick like Papa Shango. It ends with his debut with the Funkadactyls on RAW…well not his RAW debut, but his singles debut the next week pinning Heath Slater (his debut was a tag with R-Truth). Backstage he denies having learnt his lines, that it’s all “off the dome”, which is hilarious for a developmental talent being called up. Great PR for WWE showing this but nothing that interesting.

MATT POLINSKY (Corey Graves)
“My character is me turned all the way up. I hate being told what to do. I’m a punk rock kid. I am James Bond”. Wow, fuck off. After a few seconds I’m rooting for you to fail.
This is pretty heavy-handed PR for WWE’s wellness testing. Graves notes that WWE’s concussion testing is “pretty much the world standard.” Vince notes “we’re way ahead of the NFL with this kind of thing”, and answers “all your guys are clean?” with “we’re way past that now”. It’s the only disagreeable/overly-corporate BS part of the docu. I kept thinking of Punk’s multiple instances explaining how the wellness testing is a joke. Although WWE is his dream, his multiple concussions label him as medically unfit, but there’s a happy ending as they stage a bit where Triple H offers him a 2-year commentating gig. I’m not a fan of his NXT commentating, but I love how he gets unnaturally angry at Becky Lynch, ragging on her for being a fake rocker chick. In the epilogue montage, it mentions he’s “got his own show on the WWE network” which is hugely generous for a 10-minute youtube show not on youtube. They did show a pic of his Hulk Hogan cake for his 3rd birthday, which is awesome 🙂 Overall, the least enjoyable and most shilly part of the docu.

Other notes:
• The wrestlers’ interviews are shot close-up through a light ring, which reflects in their eyes. It makes it look like they have this cool-looking eye disease called arcus senilis.
• Vince/Aitch mention that the biggest factor is charisma, and ESPN cut to a montage of 80s wrestlers – Hogan, Jake, Warrior, Macho, Andre. Fuck yeah! You want charisma and characters, you go to the 80s, brother. Wrestling needs coke, jack! Everyone’s far too calm and not-paranoid these days…
• WWE documentaries (and this is no different) are very careful to show Triple H in a great light, both fair, hard-working, intelligent and highly-attuned in business and creative, to make wrestling fans feel confident about WWE’s future.
• ESPN mention NXT wrestlers get paid somewhere between “$45,000 to low 6 figures”.
• Bill DeMott is the head trainer. He comes off well in the piece. Having filmed the bulk of the footage in 2013 you couldn’t really cut him out. They flash up that DeMott was fired due to abuse allegations at the end, so quick you could barely read it. Performance Centre is said to be a lot better after he left. Dusty doesn’t offer anything insightful.
• Michael Hayes (on Leo Kruger) “I wouldn’t see him with a free ticket”. Comes off as a gruff dickhead in his limited time!
• The docu ends to an epilogue footage montage, to Bruce Springsteen’s “The Wrestler”, previously used in The Wrestler.
• There was an Extra/deleted part focusing on Tyler Breeze, and the creation of the character. His re-debut is a success and the gimmick as the final missing piece. Like Leppan’s piece but not as interesting.

Overall: Always interesting to see outsiders do a piece on wrestling. I’d watch just for Ray Leppan’s segment. Good stuff.

Turney Dota 2, Event Perdana Dari ONE Esports

Omniknight, the hero that is created as a support BUT can be played as a Carry and its one of the most OP carries if you know how to use it

Im attempting on trying a Carry Omni build but i dont know which item build is the best (trying this in normal match not ranked)

Today i tried :
Starting – quelling blade, stout shield, tango, mango

Early game : Phase Boots, Shadow Blade, Maelstorm, Crystalys

Mid Game : Radiance, Daedalus, (idk how to spell Thor’s hammer name) Boots of Travel

Late Game : Silver Edge, Divine Rapier, BF (for the stupidity of the build), Moon Shard

Idk but you guys should suggest some carry omni item builds that are actually good (cuz im confused of which item to get first too)

Omni is a support. He’s best played as a support. Where everything else is the same, Omni cannot hold its own vs other carries late game. That’s why most people play him the way he’s intended to, AS A SUPPORT.

If you go Omni and you manage to get six-slotted and level 25 when everyone else is lvl 14 in the other team, it does not mean Omni is a great carry – your competition is really low or you are much higher than your opponents. If things were leveled, you would lose late.

Pls dont be this omni guy:

I picked offlane and was forced to go and support the BS all early game cos CARRY Omni JUNGLED. Fortunately the BS he was really good so giving him all last hits payed off.

I even had to talk the Omni down from going MID – he wanted mid and I had to explain all this to him during the hero selection stage – and he settled with JUNGLER CARRY OMNI.

Starting items:
Tango
2x Iron branch
Stout shield

Early game:
Poor Man’s Shield
Power Treads
Bottle or Magic Stick

Mid game:
Desolator
Echo Sabre
Assault Cuirass

Late game:
Heart of Tarasque
Daedalus

Optional:
Balde Mail
Butterfly
Moon Shard
Bloodstone

If you can’t play carry than play a hero that is already a carry. Omni is a strength hero that uses a lot of mana so I do not recommend using this for serious matches instead use it for fun.

Following your logic, look, carry io mid:

I did that. Does that mean IO is hard carry? Hardly.

Im playing for the fun of it, not for comp reasons. in comp ill rather not pick Omni as a carry

Its fun to play Carry Omni in a normal match

That goes to the rest of the comments (plus i say that Omni is a Carry is part of the meme but i just did it for fun in normal) :

Yea i know that he is best to be played as a support but if you are too high skilled (like my friend, whom always go carry omni) must why you go for it (not ssying im a good carry, im just decent so imma try the build for fun)

Goddamit he isn’t an OP carry. Stop this meme already. If you want to play a CORE omni, just go offlane with and buy teamfight items (not crap such as Daedalus or Desolator), but leave the carrying to someone else.

Dont worry i wont be this guy. UNLESS MY TEAM ♥♥♥♥ING THROW THE GAME

Also replying to all comments, if i play Omni in normal matches, ill support for the early game. mid game and late game when the team barely needs me ill go for carry build

There is one game where i solo killed 2 of the tankiest heroes in the enemy team as Omni

im not a really good carry player like my friend so i didnt get THAT good KDA as carry

Look, carrying Omni isn’t very useful nor much fun. He needs mana to use his spells and the items you mentioned there don’t address his mana problems too much. Unless you have a CM in your team, you won’t be farming very fast because you won’t have mana to nuke creep waves and while Omni does have a high STR and right click damage, he attacks too slowly nor have any in his kit to mitigate that.

If you want to kill lots of people as him and play him as a core (not carry!), again, just go offlane and farm stuff like greaves, force staff and aether lens. Have teammates with blink initiations or just melee carries in general (avoid juggernaut and naix though) and nuke heal them.

Greaves will make sure that you keep the carries alive so you can cast purification on them, force staff to get into position to cast your spells (don’t recommend blink too much, sometimes you need get people out of a bad situation, plus, force gives you mana) and aether lens to increase the range and the damage of purification (and repel too, of course).

If the game goes very late, if the situation calls for it, radiance is not a bad item on him. I picked myself sometimes to some good success, but make sure to get your other items first.

I don’t even like Omni as a support too much. He doesn’t contribute much in the lane phase on his own nor can roam well, not to mention his mana problems and need for levels and some few core items to be really useful, so just go offlane with him instead.

After 3 Seasons, the Dota 2 Reporter might start to wind down

For those unfamiliar with the Dota 2 Reporter, the series focuses on the eponymous Dota 2 reporter as he learns the various mechanics of the game, while at the same time pointing out the absurdity of them in a real world context. The series has reached 57 episodes with the conclusion of the 3rd season on the horizon.

The first episode of the Dota 2 Reporter

Brian Calland on what inspired him to create the DOTA 2 reporter
When asked about what inspired to create the show, Brian stated that it dates back to his teenage years. “When I was 14 I visited Newgrounds. com a lot, and for some reason there I was like ‘what if I made stupid things like that’ (. ) I saw a bunch of video game parodies when I was there, and I was like ‘Ya I’ll do a video game parody’ (. ) Eventually, I don’t know why it was in this format of like a reporter in the middle of the game but I did an original Star Craft reporter in 2006(. ) I made it and it was terrible obviously. I guess from that cartoon I thought that putting a static neutral character in the middle of the game and comment on the absurdity of it all.”

Brian Calland on his history with animation
Brian has no previous experience with animation outside of Flash. However, he did mention that he went to film school. “I went to film school thinking about being a director but then I realised if I stuck to doing the Dota 2 Reporter, I have 100% control over everything and no one can touch it.”

The two man team behind the show
When writing the script for the show, Brian describes his approach to scriptwriting as “unconventional”. “Id compare my appraoch to that of South Park, where I start a script for that week only and then just make it and hope that it works.” When asked if he has the scripts pre-written and then proceeds, he answered that none of the scritps are pre-written and starts fresh every week.

There are only two people who work on the show, himself and his friend Mike. “There are 2 of us doing the voices. Mike does the lower register characters (. ) He does a very good Tidehunter. He doesnt know anything about the game which makes it really funny to work with him.” Outside of that Brian does all the heavy lifting alone, which includes the animation, scriptwriting and sound editing.

One of our personal favourite Dota 2 Reporter episodes

Brian’s extended break from Dota 2 and what it means for the show
Brian mentioned that he was taking an extended break from the game since he felt that it was becoming more work than play. When asked if he saw the show as work, he had this to say: “I enjoy doing it, and I am happy to be doing it, it’s just that sometimes I have this thought in the back of my mind where I dont play the game as much aanymore, Im sure I will eventually since I am on my extended break, but I still like the characters that I guess you can say that I made them. I like to write, I love to make the things happen, I just. when Im trying to think of a ways to end the episode Im just like ‘umm. ummm. they destroy a building'”

Season 4 might follow different format from previous seasons
Brian briefly talked about the future of the show when asked if there will be a fourth season. “Theirs going to be. something. I’ll address it like this; I dont how much Im going to follow the format as I have been with like seasons and further episodes not making any sense if you hadnt seen the other ones. So maybe I’ll do some stuff where its more like “Oh you can actually see other heroes then the 10 I’ve locked in here for over half a year”.

He also briefly mentioned what he might be doing in the future outside of the Dota 2 Reporter. “Ive been contemplating having a side channel for like gameplay and stuff, nothing that takes like 2 weeks to do, just some fun stuff to do”

Alliance dota 2 sponsorship

Gothenburg, Sweden  – November 29th, 2017 – Alliance is pleased to announce a new Dota 2 roster. We know many of you have been waiting for this a long time, and we are thrilled to finally being able to share the news with you. The Dota 2 squad, headed up by Jonathan ‘Loda’ Berg, will consist of Michael ‘miCKe’ Vu, Aydin ‘iNSaNiA’ Sarkohi, Tommy ‘Taiga’ (formerly st_st) Le and Samuel ‘Boxi’ Svahn.

Since our formation in 2013, Alliance has always been built around its players and their legacy. This fall, Jonathan set out to find a new group of players that could represent Alliance and over time can grow to something more than just the sum of its parts. As mentioned in the “Creating a Legacy” interview made together with our friends at Monster Energy, Jonathan has been looking to create a core group that is able to represent Alliance long-term and to recreate the bond between five players that Alliance rose to fame with.

For those who have followed Team Sweden with Jonathan and Joakim ‘Akke’ Akterhall in the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) 2017 Europe Qualifier, two of the names in this new Alliance roster are familiar. Jonathan was considering mid-player Michael as early as 2016 and is excited to finally have the young Swedish prodigy on the team. Aydin, the former Heroes of the Newerth-player, have previously played together in various teams with Michael during the past year and take the position five support role in the new team. Jonathan is positive that both Aydin and Michael will carry on the Alliance legacy even after his active years as a competitive players and thusly both have a longer contract than what is customary in Dota. Alliance dota 2 sponsorship In addition to Michael and Aydin, Samuel will play offlane for the team and Tommy will join Aydin in the support role. With the team complete Jonathan is certain that he has found the right people to play for Alliance.

With the holidays coming up soon, the team will have a gradual start as Michael, who is suffering from a hand injury, is going through surgery during the winter. Jonathan, Michael and Aydin will continue to represent Team Sweden together with Joakim and Janne ‘Gorgc’ Stefanovski at WESG 2017 in March 2018 at the Changzhou Olympic Sports Center in Changzhou, China. Alliance dota 2 sponsorship For the Alliance roster, the focus will be to practise for the upcoming Minors and Majors Qualifiers.

Long Live Alliance.

This marks the beginning of a new era in Alliance Dota 2, a lineup that has been picked out not only for what they are today, but who they want to be in the future. Working with these fresh talents the past weeks have been a pleasure and have reminded me that I still have things to teach. Their passion and hunger is exactly what is needed in up-and-coming players and they will soon have names to be feared by our opponents.

When I say this is the beginning of something new it is due the simple reason that I am slowly preparing for my retirement and building my legacy. It is important to me that Alliance Dota will live on, not in the shadow of our previous results, but with the goal to surpass them.

I have taken my time building this team, reminding myself what it is all about. Many of you were hoping to see one or two stars on the roster, it did not end that way. We are not a team that picks up established players, we create them. Barring that, some of these boys have been on LAN tournaments since they were 13 years old and already have more than one achievement under the belt.

There was some uncertainty regarding the formation of the squad, and I want to be open about the fact that our mid player Michael will be away due to medical reasons for the rest of the year and he will rejoin with the rest of the squad in January. Signing him for 2 years is a clear show of faith in his swift recovery, but also in his potential and value as a young esport player.

I have recently had the pleasure to interact with Aydin and Michael at WESG and all I can say is that I am very confident in the future and looking forward to meet up with the rest of the team in the near future.

I am honored to represent Alliance and you guys in the coming season, and I promise to enjoy every second of it.

This time I really need all of you fans’ help to welcome the boys. Support them. Whine when we lose, cheer for every step forward. Make them feel a part of the Alliance of old, of now, and of the future. Because I will be part of the start of this journey, but not the end.

Spell cast range indicator

i would like to suggest the displaying of spells and active items(such as dagger) ranges before we cast them during the game

NO. You can already mouse-over abilities to see the range.. Don’t make it easier as it already is.. i want a competitive game, not a LoL clone.

Give me my old Traxex back, the one with ice-cold eyes and face paint!

Why do carries get all credit for winning a game where he goes 30 min afk farming while the rest is defending everything?

I have been playing dota for 9 years now and I would like spell cast range. At least the outer circle range. Nothing more.

I am only against implementing this to blink dagger.

WHOA THERE where do you get off saying Dota 2 is easy? How does a lack of a range indicator make the game more competitive?

So you always know if your hook hits or your powershot or impale or fissure etc etc. I think this reduces the competitive difficulty level of dota. Dota 2 skill range indicator 60mm Just my opinion though.

Give me my old Traxex back, the one with ice-cold eyes and face paint!

But there’s no guarantee these things will always hit. The range indicator just lets you know whether or not someone is in, well, range. Also in the case of certain spells your hero will just chase their target until the spell is cast anyway, I don’t see how this will make the game less competitive.

Because part of the game is having the skill of knowing ability ranges. For example, casting blink dagger outside maximum range causes you to blink a shorter distance than maximum, rather than maximum.

And meat hook, part of the skill is knowing whether or not you are in range of hooking someone. If they aren’t in range they aren’t going to waste their mana in an attempt to get you.

Some skills can even hit targets outside the range indicator, like impale. Skilled players know that if you target the ground in front of the hero, you can stun them from farther away. If you clicked the hero itself, then you would have to walk up closer to the hero, that distance being the range indicator. This would appear ‘misleading’

You can put the range indicator on by editing this command in the autoexec. cfg file in the dota2 directory.

“dota_disable_range_finder “0”.It should be 0,keeping it 1 will disable it which is the case by default.

go play LOL if u want crap things

Abilities Range

In LoL when u click a skill to use the HUD displays a circle or arrow (if the abilitie is breath or hook like), so you know the actual abilitie range. On Dota 2 we got something similar, but it dont work when you “use” the skill, but instead it work when you mouse over the skill, wich is really pointless.

+1, I screw up a lot of abilities because I don’t know the range. You can enable a range-finder with the console right now though, with dota_disable_rangefinder 0 although it’s a bit clunky right now. I suspect they plan to add this soon.

Nah just learn it like everyone else did for the last 9 years of dota. Dota 2 skill range indicator 60mm It’s really not that hard bro you will get better by playing more just like everyone else. Everyone get’s a hang of it after a month of playing no problem.

Stoped reading there aswell and laughed a bit, then I read the rest of the post and facepalmed

Anyway. there were a lot of threads about this, and everyone agrees that this would be stupid.

Totaly agree or go back to LOL.

Hi I am an LoL player. I would like ALL THESE THINGS THAT MAKE THE GAME EASY FOR ME TO BE IN THIS GAME TOO. BUT IT DOESNT CHANGE GAMEPLAY IT ONLY SHOWS ME HOW TO USE MY SPELLS.

/facepalm people from LoL shouldn’t be allowed to post anything TBH. The game was way to retard friendly to have their input in a game they don’t even understand one bit.

I did learn when i use t oplay 20 games a day back on high school. And for most of the time i still know, but theres people that are starting now and one of the things Dota is in extreme need is a better learning curve, and it might help.

But still, theres no way to say “THAT 900 RANGE”, you most always. Most people just cast and the hero move to needed range. And still, now you can hover over the abilitie to see the range. so it will be implemented, be mad.

Open your mind dude, LoL is actualy the Moba who makes most money of the game (something Valve is highly interested). And is almost getting Dota on number of players, and remember it has a lot less time in the marked comparing to Dota. Dota 2 skill range indicator 60mm So, open your mind both games have good thing and bad things, even Dota being way better, in my opnion.

LoL makes the most money simply because dota is free, as well as the fact that every person under the age of 6 plays it as well as anyone could start it up and instantly be decent. This doesn’t make the game good, infact it’s the opposite.

Dota is meant to be difficult and hard. It’s the reason its been around for 9+ years. So no, we shouldn’t make it like LoL because they make more money than dota off people. Take my advice and stop posting about a game clearly you don’t know anything about simply becaues you want it to be easier.

So before you start preaching to people LOL is best because it makes more money think about the reasons it does: Easier to play anyone can play it, even my 4yr old niece and roll people. As well as the fact they actually charge people. DERP dota doesn’t.

I like this idea. Dota 2 skill range indicator 60mm The range indicator is already there when you mouse over so there really is no reason for it to not show up when to select an ability to use. It’s not like you are asking for something that isn’t in the game already you are just asking for some consistency.

I guess DOTA 2 is now a noob game because in DotA there weren’t ability range indicators at all. Even when you moused over the ability. According to Nerzyman any change like this is awful because it makes things easier. Damn I guess I’ll rethink my DOTA 2 purchase now that I know I’m playing a noob friendly game.
