HMMM. Interesting. I personally don’t like getting Mask of Madness on Sniper , he’s too squishy if he gets caught out of position.

Eye of Skadi is one of the best items on Sniper . I say this because:

****ing Snowball Bullets Are ****ing Majestic
    You Slow People
    You Become A ****ing Tank
    ****

Drow Ranger ‘s Ice Arrows, Eye of Skadi Is So Much Better
You Stun AND Slow
What’s Not To Like?

Eye of Skadi is generally my big item on Sniper , I very rarely go without it, and almost never go without Satanic , which is so much better than Mask of Madness , by about 5% extra lifesteal, possible 200% lifesteal, str, better build-up, MOAR TANK *****ES!

I like playing Sniper and always laugh when I see Mask of Madness on a Sniper , as any good player will be able to punish it (Gotta love dat Blink Dagger Naix, SUCK IT *****ES!).

Why don’t you start with Wraith Band ? It makes it so much easier to last hit, and don’t give me that **** about “Starting with Wraith Band makes you so ****ing squishy early on” because it doesn’t, you get Wraith Band , Iron Branch Iron Branch +2 Pooled Tango and you’re fine, trust me, I have a 100% winrate with those starting items 😛

In very rare situations where your team is losing and you need to do something to win fights, getting Skull Basher + Monkey King Bar is legit, I d > Skull Basher is ****ing terrible on Sniper as he’s a ranged hero.” STFU, imaginary person that should probably not be used in any other place than my gu >

Good guide overall,

Yet it’s interesting to see none of the alternative builds mention desolator which trainwrecks enemies in 3 successive shots.

IMO, for the early stages of the game MoM is a very viable choice, but it should be transtioned into desolator+hyperstone if the game prolongs to late/superlate game combats.

About your caster build, and how you increase your skills. I am assuming that you use his Q in order to farm, but I feel that this is kinda an ineffective method of farming when mana regen isn’t really going to be that extensive until Orchids, and that is going to be someway past the laning phase because we’re not starting that till after Drums. For that matter, Take Aim is how Sniper survives in lane. He is squishy, and he has no escape mechanisms. He will not get a Shadow Blade as core with the Caster build either. That’s why I feel like not maxing Take Aim first is incredibly dangerous and leaves you with little to work with, plus little means to run if ganks do come, and will come, your way. Shrapnel has really great range. And by the time you need it, you should have plenty of damage. And it’s slow even at 3 is still very nice. That’s why I felt that maxing Take Aim first, then Shrapnel, then not leveling Headshot until after Q is maxed (or even taking only one point if you really need that mini-stun to stop a channeling ability instead of a point in Shrapnel) would be a better build. Because all the damage will be largely from a combination of his Q, autoattacks and Orchid. The loss of damage from his W isn’t so bad.

Also, I’d suggest getting Drums after Orchid, because that’s more of a complimentary item than anything. Your Orchid should be rushed, since you need it as soon as possible. Like, right after whatever boots you get. If you really need damage, I would suggest getting a Wrath Band or even building it into Aquila if you REALLY need mana. Dota 2 headshot v 2084

And because we’re taking Take Aim first, Tranquil Boots are unnecessary as you shouldn’t be taking damage. If you are. Say, in a lane with some long range harass, like Shadow Demon, then by all means get them. But otherwise, he should be safe now. Sniper’s early game should be played cautiously and with his Caster build even more so.

Also, I wondered if Ethereal Blade would be any good for this build, and I thought that maybe it would be but only in conjunction with some kind of positioning item.

Dota 2 matchmaking joindota 2

Dota 2 matchmaking joindota 2

Dota 2 matchmaking joindota 2

A comprehensive matchmaking system is an important factor in being able to enjoy playing Dota, regardless of which hero or role you prefer. Today’s update includes some engineering changes to the core matchmaking system to allow for bigger changes and better analytical capabilities. Over the next year, we’ll be spending more time focusing on various aspects of matchmaking such as intra-team balance, player conduct, new player experience, abusive behaviors, account buying, friend and teamplay aspects, high mmr matchmaking dynamics, and other issues in an effort to make the overall experience of playing Dota more fun for players of all levels. In this blog post we decided to drill deeper into the changes in today’s update and explain our thoughts.

Matchmaking involves various tradeoffs and our goal is to find the best balance between all the different factors. In order to help make progress on finding the right set of tradeoffs, today’s update includes a couple different experimental changes that will last until the end of the season. Close to the end of the season we’ll do a direct call for feedback on how the changes have worked out and use that feedback, along with data we are gathering in the meantime, to help inform the direction for the next season. We’ll also be working towards other features, such as better detection of smurfing and other abusive behaviors as the year progresses.

The first of these experiments is removing the concept of separate Solo and Party MMRs. We expect this to be the most controversial component in today’s update, as we’ve heard fair criticisms of it in the past. We can’t say that we are fully confident that this will end up being a good change either, so we’ll want to wait until the end of the season when we gather feedback and data on how it has played out after players have had a chance to absorb it. There are two major aspects with this change: 1) the teamplay and social aspect and 2) the value and correctness of the MMR value.

For the teamplay aspect: We think it is really crucial for you to not have a disincentive to play with your friends. The game currently overly emphasizes playing solo and establishes a strong social reward mechanism for this, which causes many players to prefer playing alone than with friends. We believe that bias has over time caused more negativity and unhappiness when playing Dota. Dota 2 matchmaking joindota 2 Furthermore, Dota is a very teamplay heavy game and we want to consider that aspect a bit more strongly in the hierarchy of matchmaking values. We’ve considered other approaches to the friend and teamplay incentives, but they tended to do a poor job at making it feel actually rewarding to play with friends and only papered over the issue.

For the correctness of the MMR aspect: We recognize that there is a tradeoff here on the mmr data quality if the match has solo mmr numbers with party mmr numbers, however we feel that the impact of that data noise is much smaller than even we initially considered it to be early on and generally with how it is discussed online. Most of the issues related to this we think we can solve with better algorithms. Another common case is playing with a friend who has a higher mmr than you, expecting that it will cause your mmr to go higher. While that has been at least partly true in previous matchmaking system iterations, our most recent version does a fairly good job of addressing this. We have enough data to form matches that cause you to have an even chance to win by carefully choosing the opponents that have a similar makeup. At a base level, we think mathematically we are able to have high confidence that playing with a friend will not have a material effect on your average mmr value with a properly balanced matchmaker. We’ve done some testing to make sure this is true in advance of this update, however we know it’s likely there is more work to be done here and we’ll continue working on this aspect in the background during this experimental period.

Through our investigation into the topic of matchmaking volatility and how parties affect the game, we’ve noticed something that fans likely already know: players have very different comfort levels when playing core roles versus support roles. Some players perform really poorly when they play a role they are not used to, and in turn introduce a lot of volatility in the system for everyone by causing your MMR number to drift away from your actual skill level as well as causing imbalanced games.

So because of that, and because of our abiding love of having multiple MMR numbers, we are adding a new concept of Core and Support MMR numbers. In order to achieve this, we need to know what role you want to play in advance of the match being formed. So for this experimental update, we are moving the Ranked Roles feature to the base Ranked matchmaking and expanding on its capabilities. Now when you matchmake, you will have the option of selecting roles from position 1 through 5 (Safe Lane Core through Hard Support), including multiple selections. So if you like playing Mid or Offlane, you can select those two, or if you like playing Hard Support and Mid, you’ll be able to do that as well. You will be matched based on either your Core or Support MMR.

Each MMR type will also have its own leaderboard, and for the purposes of this short experimental period the existing rank will be applied as the initial rank for both Core and Support. If we end up keeping this feature in the future, there will be a separate calibration phase for each one.

These experimental changes will remain active for the rest of this season for you to try out. Sometime after The International concludes, we’ll issue a call for community feedback to help guide the next steps in our efforts to increase matchmaking quality for everyone. We hope to have your support and patience through this experiment as well as subsequent changes towards the path of making a better overall matchmaking system.

While we were initially going to release this change as part of the Summer Scrub update, the amount of significant underlying code changes required for this update introduces a lot of potential instability. So we are splitting the Summer Scrub update into two parts, this first part for a matchmaking rework, and the second part soon after for bug fixes and a few quality of life additions. We are expecting that we’ll have a lot of matchmaking related bugs to work through today, so please let us know if you run into any issues and make sure to include the matchid in your reports.

Anyone playing Dota 2 on Mac? Performance?

I’ve been less than thrilled with the performance on my 2008 Mac Pro with 6870. My cousin just got a 2013 Mac Pro D300 and even he isn’t having a good time with performance neither (choppy).

What’s everyone else’s experience? There seems to be oddly little written recently on the topic.

Seems fine to me, on my 27″ iMac with 4850. Of course, I don’t play much.

Seems fine to me (my framerate is at least 30fps on average) if I make sure to disable anti-aliasing. I think I disable one or two more graphics options (I think one is ambient creatures), but I can’t remember at the moment. I would think that your machines would play the game better than mine.

Running on a 2011 Mac Mini (core i7), 16GB RAM
Running at 1920×1080

It plays like garbage on Mac, because the drivers for Mac OS X are trash, and don’t have the optimizations you see in the Windows drivers. For example, there is no way to enable SLI processing on the Mac. I have a late 2013 Mac Pro (little black garbagecan-looking mac) which cost me about $3,000. The only way DOTA 2 is playable is after installing Windows 8, booting into Windows (and not OS X). For fun, I disabled SLI on the Mac running Windows, to compare playability with Mac OS X (where SLI is disabled due to lack of driver support for that feature), and Windows still beat the pants off OS X.

My desktop PC equipped with a $300 nVidia GTX 780 can play DOTA 2 at 60fps at a 3840 X 2160 (4k) resolution. I have to drop the graphics “render quality” down to 70% on the Mac Pro (running Windows 8) to maintain 60fps. It drops to 50-ish fps when all 5 or more heroes are casting spells at the same time on the screen. The desktop PC handles everything at max settings. The GTX 780 also has a 2nd display connected to it, at 2560×1600 resolution, which is running a Google Hangouts video chat at full screen.

The only time I’ve seen the gaming experience on the PC running the GTX 780 come was when I tried to run fraps while playing at 4k and also having Google Hangouts video chat running on a 2nd screen. Resulted in 30fps in the game.

Linux performance is comparable to Windows, although it may be a hair more compute intensive on Linux. As of Ubuntu 14.04.1 there seems to be problems with multi-monitor setups, there are major FPS issues when playing DOTA 2 and running Google Hangouts or Skype at the same time. The same hardware with Windows works fine.

The Mac has zero gaming capability, and I was extremely disappointed with having to install Windows to get the most out of the system. I realize this information is late, but it may help people avoid an expensive mistake as shopping kicks into high gear this holiday season.

Dota 2 certainly doesn’t require SLI and is CPU-limited on my 2.66 GHz 2006 Mac Pro with a radeon 4870. I get between 30 and 60 fps most of the time, with all options enabled except ambiant occlusion and antialiasing (which doesn’t work). VSync is enabled because, for some reason, I get some weird stuttering without it even when the fps counter says it’s above 60. Vsync fixes that, but once every second or so, everything that moves (hero, creep, the camera) would “jump” by a very short distance as if it needed to synchronise with its true position in the game. It’s a bit annoying, but I find it more tolerable than without VSync.
During intense combat and on other occasions (that seem a bit random), fps can go below 30. But for an 8-year-old machine, I find the performance quite good.
The game should run flawlessly on a current Mac Pro. If it doesn’t, it means there’s a bug somewhere.

I only play against (hard) bots cause I don’t have any friend playing the game, and watch live games on occasion.

I won’t put the blame on the OS X drivers without knowing more about the issue that affects a given configuration. Valve codes for the Windows PC first, and does some on-the-fly translation into openGL code with a custom wrapper.
Make sure that multicore rendering is enabled.

Dota 2: TI 9 Meta Analysis

We can safely say that The International 2019 was the best one we have seen yet. Everything, ranging from the cast to the players themselves was top notch.

We witnessed some of the most incredible Dota 2 games in the last couple of years. Having said that, one team just re-wrote Dota’s history by winning two consecutive TI’s in a row. OG, ladies and gentlemen, have proven once again they are the best team in the world. Even though they had an incredibly rough DPC season, as soon as Anathan “ana” Pham came back, things changed for the better.

Unfortunately, TI is over which means that the “great depression” until the next DPC season begins. Despite that, let’s take a look at which heroes were the most popular during this incredible tournament.

The Most Popular Heros

Elder Titan

ET has been an “on and off” hero in several tournaments now. However, he completely exploded in terms of picks at this years’ TI. In fact, he is the most contested hero at the entire event with 75 picks in total. In addition, Elder Titan is rocking a solid 56% win rating, which is a very solid score. There are many reasons for his high popularity. Apart from being an awesome hero for team-fights, he is also very strong against a certain type of armor-based heroes due to his passive skills. There were numerous times where people just got one-shot out of nowhere because of this.

Last, but definitely not least, let’s not forget about his recently added Aghanims. It makes him that much better in certain scenarios.

Shadow Demon

When you are thinking of an annoying hero, SD has to be one of the first names that come to mind. This hero has been one of the go-to supports for some time now. In fact, he has been in the meta ever since the good old Luna + SD combo, which was eventually swapped out for Morphling.

During TI 9, this hero has been picked a total of 70 picks. Also, similar to ET, he is rocking a solid 56% win rating.

There are not that many words that can describe the state of Tiny right now. Not only is one of the biggest damage dealers in the game but his versatility makes him unpredictable and one of the go-to picks for nearly every single team during TI 9.

We’ve seen this hero played in pretty much every single position throughout the years. Nowadays, he is most commonly played either in mid or as a position four. In both cases, his disables are what make him so strong in the current meta. Dota 2 its all ogre now images Also, let’s not forget the utterly-retarded Aghanim which can one-shot anyone in the game.

However, unlike ET and SD, tiny has “only” 53% win rating out of 62 games. As a wise man said in the TV series Chernoby; “not great, not terrible”.

Ogre Magi

Ogre has always been a somewhat controversial hero in the Dota 2 scene. Of course, right now he is pretty much as popular as a hero can be because he just won the arcana vote against Windranger but there were times where people did not really like the hero all that much.

A very cool thing about Ogre is the fact that he can be played either in the offlane or support. He is very tanky by nature, which makes him a pretty good offlaner actually. Also, let’s not forget the decent damage output as well as Bloodloost, allowing him to be hard to catch as well.

Even though the hero was picked a total of 62 times, he does not have a high win rate. In fact, it is one of the lowest compared to the other top heroes right now – 44%

Ogre is currently the most loved hero from the Dota 2 community. Having said that, as soon as the new patch lands, it is possible to see some nerfs.

Gyrocopter

Despite the fact that Gyro has 10 fewer picks compared to Ogre, his 62% win rating is very, very impressive.

Similar to Tiny, Gyro has been in the meta for many years now. At one point, he was even the top carry that everyone was looking to get. Nowadays, he is also one of the strongest heroes but the meta is a little bit different so he is not always the go-to pick in every single game like it used to be during TI 5 for example.

One of the most popular combos was pairing this hero with IO. However, we are not just talking about any IO. The International 9 champions re-invented the meta once again with their carry wisp. In fact, this was one of their strongest weapons throughout the entire tournament.

Conclusion

TI 9 was truly a magical experience for every Dota 2 lover out there. Having said that, if you missed any of the action, be sure to check our full recaps here. It is strongly advised that you re-watch some of the most interesting series if you missed them. Also, if you are interested in the stats of other heroes, click here.

I’m assuming you mean more peaceful than KK

By peaceful, I hope you mean less traffic and crime, not more rural.

I’ve heard lots of good thing about Kuching.
I even bought my flight ticket and booked a hotel room to visit it.
Then things happened and I can’t go.
And there goes all my money

And that’s why I needed to bother everyone here with this useless question

I’m from Kuching but i prefer KK

1. How friendly and helpful the local people are – both place same feel of friendliness, this is Borneo maa! hospitality is like our 2nd nature.
2. Accommodation – I strongly feel KK hotels are better. but then being in Borneo. either choose to stay at top of the line resorts or the newest hotel possible.
3. Ease of access around the city (public transport, traffic jam, risk of flooding. ) – KK wins on public transport, traffic jams both place also have. Flood? lately i feel Kuching more prone to flooding.
4. Cost of living, grocery shopping – Kuching is cheaper, but in terms of fashion items KK wins. Kuching has the best and cheapest food option (also subjective).
5. Parks for jogging, swimming, exercising (not interested in gyms) – Both city i feel dont have enough parks. people rather do their window shopping exercise due to very hot weather. but if needed to then KK of course have better view. Teluk Likas has bicycle lane.
6. Quick weekend getaway (Because we all need to chillax every once in a while, right?) (KK seem to be winning out on this one based on internet reviews, what with Tanjung Aru, TARP and Kundasang not too far away. But Tanjung Aru’s first beach is closing now, so it seems they’re both even-ish?) – my kind of weekend getaway is a clean beach & maybe some nice resorts. KK has that. Kuching resorts are all run down & not well maintained.
7. Cleanliness of public toilets (. haha I’m serious. ) – both cities failed in this topic.

That’s my short sighted reply that is applicable to me but maybe not suitable for you. We never get tired of KK & will find an excuse just to fly over for a visit every few months.

Dota Summit 11 – Day 3 Highlights

Our top highlights from another action-packed day at Dota Summit 11

Our third day of competition in Los Angeles is done and dusted. We saw plenty of top-tier Dota 2, let’s check out some of the highlights.

Chaos Esports Club vs jfshfh178 – Game 2

Chaos were on fire in round one of our Upper Bracket series. They faced off against CIS newcomers, 178. Game two was an especially satisfying stomp for the NA team. They overran 178 in just 22-minutes. Thanks to a double-kill around 6-minutes into the laning phase cementing their gold lead, Chaos were able to snowball quickly to a victory.

Palantimos didn’t even manage to score a single kill on his Lifestealer pick, ending the game 0/2/0. CC&C on the other hand, went 7/2/5 by game’s end.

Invictus Gaming vs HellRaisers – Game 1

Another highlight from the first round of our Upper Bracket series was the first game between IG and HellRaisers. This match was neck-and-neck, stretching on for almost an hour and a half as both teams pulled out all the stops, including divine rapiers.

This game was uncomfortably even and could have swung either way over its lengthy 85-minutes. The final score was an even 54–54, and there was only a 3.4k difference in the net worth.

In the end the victory in game one went to Invictus, thanks in no small part to the stunning performance given by Emo on his Storm Spirit. Invictus Gaming also went on to take the series, our first team to make it to the Grand Finals at this Minor.

Even so, it’s worth highlighting V-Tune’s Terrorblade in this game as well. He really did work for HR, going 23/5/14 in this game, and taking out the highest kills overall. A total of 49 across all three games.

Your first team in the #DotaSummit 11 Grand Final is @invgaming off the back of a fearsome Pudge pick! 🤯 #dota2

HellRaisers vs jfshfh178 – Game 3

Our final series of the day had a lot of tense moments. But game three definitely delivered on the entertainment. A triple-kill for HellRaisers top lane in the game’s opening seconds set the pace for this b match.

HellRaisers had a 5k net worth lead by 14-minutes into the game and were 8-kills up on 178. At just past the 20-minute mark the kills were 19–5, and HellRaisers had taken a 13k lead. This was largely in part thanks to their beautiful control of the map which provided plenty of space for Nix to get free farm on his Outworld Devourer. He finished with a 9/1/12 KDA. HellRaisers closed out the match at 27-minutes with the kills at 27–6, taking the series 2–1.

It was a disappointing end to a great run at Summit for jfshfh178. They were something of a dark horse this Minor, putting on an impressive performance throughout the groups.

There’s just one day left of our first Minor of the DPC season. Tune in to catch all the action from the Summit 11 finals live on Twitch. Be sure to follow us on Twitter for all the latest Dota 2 news and highlights.

Dota 2 jungle camp difficulty walking

Dota 2 jungle camp difficulty walking

Dota 2 jungle camp difficulty walking

Jungling

Jungling mainly refers to certain heroes (“junglers”) starting out their game not in a lane but in the jungle. Instead of gaining experience and gold from the enemy creeps, they farm on the various neutral creepcamps located among the trees. Only certain heroes can pull this off, but some benefit greatly from it. How a hero goes about being effective at jungling differs from hero to hero.

The main reason for jungling is giving the team access to additional experience and gold – while gold and experience from the lane doesn’t have to be pooled or split. That being said, by comparison, freefarm in a lane yield more gold than farming in the jungle only.

The disadvantage of jungling is that, since you’re along in the woods, you’re both susceptible and vulnerable to ganks.

Contents

How to [ edit ]

Every hero has a different way of jungling, and learning how to do it with your hero specifically is oftentimes required, since you need to be as effective as possible to keep up a level and income similar to that of the other heroes in the game. To find hero-specific guide, s see the References section. There are some basics though – such as having good knowledge of the geography of your jungle. Study the map and learn all the paths and camp locations. Learn the fastest way or route to get from camp to camp and how to landscape (cutting, eating, or destroying trees to open new pathways) to create shortcuts.

Picking your battles [ edit ]

Neutral creepcamps come in four tiers of difficulty. In each jungle you find: Easy (1 camp), Medium (2 camps), Hard (2 camps) and Ancient (Invulnerable to magic – 1 camp). Learn the locations of these when you decide to jungle.

Most heroes, logically, start out by killing the Easy camp until they have gained the levels and gold to take on the medium camps, and so on. However, some heroes can start out by killing a medium camp, or even a hard camp – if you know how! Taking out a hard camp on level 1 gives your experience a huge initial boost and it’s worth it if you know how to do it. Read up on your hero and learn how to start out in the most effective manner. Other benefits like Random Gold or grabbing a rune can also enable you to take out a more difficult camp at the start.

Respawn and Timing [ edit ]

Creeps respawn every minute, on the minute, unless their spawn is blocked by a hero or ward in the vicinity.

When you need a camp to respawn after killing it, make sure you stay clear of it when the time comes. If you are still fighting the camp when the respawn is coming up, you can move away from the camp at the XX:52 second mark. The creeps you’re fighting will follow you and they will be clear of the camp when the full minute arives. New creeps will spawn, you can finish off the old ones and immediately have new creeps at your mercy.

Opponents can prevent neutral creeps from respawning by placing one or more wards among the camps. You can counter with sentry wards, but make sure not to block the spawns yourself. To read up on how to deal with wards in detail, see Dewarding.

Safety [ edit ]

When jungling you are quite a distance away from your teammates, and, combined with trees obscuring incoming attackers, this makes you quite vulnerable. Apply good warding and keep extra aware of missing heroes.

Stacking [ edit ]

Stacking is the act of tricking the game engine into respawning a creepcamp without the previous creepcamp having actually been removed. To do this, aggro the creepcamp and leave it at the XX:53 second mark. The creeps will follow you and be clear of the camp at the XX:00 second respawn time – at which point the game will think the camp has been cleared and respawn one. As a result the camp now contains twice the amount of creeps. The general reason of why this is useful is that, at lower levels, you don’t have time to clear all the camps in under the minute at which they respawn. If the timing allows you to stack quickly, you’ll end up with a big camp to insta-farm once you hit the level to do so.

Choke point jungling [ edit ]

Using choke points to reduce damage from melee creeps is an integral part of jungling. Using nooks and crannies in the trees around the camps, or using a quelling blade or tangoes to create choke points, you can position yourself so that only one creep can attack you at a time. Many camps have either a natural choke point or a potential one after some landscaping.

Choke points also enable you to take on a stacked camp at a low level.

Gallery of chokepoints [ edit ]

Items [ edit ]

Again, what specific items to buy heavily depends on what hero you’re playing. Generally, look for the following.

Tangoes, Salves, Clarities – Your basic regen items. When you’re dependant on your spells, buy enough clarities, when you’re dependant on yourself, buy tangoes or salves.

Quelling blade – Not only a key item in choke point jungling, it also gives you bonus damage against the creeps.

Ring of Basilius – When jungling with summons or other helpers, this Ring gives them all an armor bonus, plus mana regen. NOTE: Make sure the ring is toggled ON

Hand of Midas – Expensive investment, but will make your jungling more effective.

Other [ edit ]

Morbid Mask (and subsequent) – Gives your hero lifesteal, allowing nearly any hero to survive battling the jungle creeps

Battlefury – The ultimate mid to late game jungle item. The splash damage lets you take out creepcamps quickly for additional farm.

You know what else counters Blademail, stop autoattacking the enemy with it activated. It doesnt last that long.

Cheaper than buying BKB every game you see someone with Blaidmail.
I never buy BKB tbh. So many other ways to counter. Unless it’s a Nyx, then yea, BKB all the way for me.

I agree that buying a bkb is a waste. It is way over purchased. Buying a bkb with sniper is useless.

If you are a carry then bkb is core unless you are playing PL or something similar

If I were to bother buying a BKB as Sniper. I’d have to delay my Shadow Blade, Mjolnir, and/or Desolator. All of which, combined, are more useful to me as Sniper than just having a BKB.

I’m sorry I disagree. Sniper with a bkb is a waste. I agree usually it helps. Storm spirit doesn’t need one unless the other team is heavy disable/silence. BS doesnt need one if the other team is incredibly squishy. Jugg doesn’t need on either. BKB is situational, not core except for axe and other tanks.

Well, think of it like this.

You are facing a magic/stun heavy team.

No bkb. You get stunned/disabled/nuked&dead. You are not doing any dmg.

You aren’t doing damage period if you are stunned/disabled/silenced. Even silenced, you could be forced to drop your DPS dramatically because you can’t cast spells but it’s dependant on the hero you chose.

I’d say it depends, if the enemy heroes can just nuke you down before you get a chance to do anything(For example, Lion blinks in, Impales, Finger of Deaths in the middle of fights while you’re helpless), then a BKB is probably useful. Sometimes Shadow Blade isn’t great either, depending on the level of detection enemy heroes have and their skill at using it.

BKB is essentially something you have to weigh the opportunity cost of; if I get it, it delays my items, but can I prevent the enemy team from capitalizing on it, or are they going to blow me up before my other items actually deal any damage? What does BKB actually block for me this game, is the enemy disable heavy, or do their primary disables go through BKB? Should I get one early or late? Etc.

I’d say there are games you could use it on Sniper, probably against teams with heavy magical burst on mobile heroes(Blink initiators, for example), or against teams who you know will disable you before those shiny damage items actually do anything.

Magic heavy-Hood of defiance (depending on the hero.)

The generalization of “BKB is core for all carries” is rather foolish. Storm spirit can evade almost all stuns/silences. sniper will waste 3.7 k on an item for magic resist when he isn’t even in the fight. Templar assasin can block damage using refrcation, Riki is too hard to target. BS will regain most HP when an enemy dies.

I believe BKB is useful for most heros but only if the situation fits.
