The International 2016: the greatest event not just in Dota 2 but in all of e-sports

But what do I do with myself when the sports season ends?

The greatest game in the world is Dota 2, and the greatest event in the Dota 2 calendar is The International. Sixteen teams meet at Seattle’s KeyArena to compete for a share of the tournament’s $20,770,460 prize pool. The winning team takes home a cool $9.1 million.

Dota 2 made me understand the passion and obsession suffered by people who follow sports. Attending the sixth International (TI6) took this to another level. I’ve spent the last week feeling thoroughly drained. Empty, even. I want the International to come back. I miss it. My life is incomplete without it.

Valve’s augmented reality presentation at TI6, in which life-sized models of the heroes mixed with commentators and presenters, gave the contest an exciting new layer of polish. Two new heroes were revealed, not just the widely anticipated Underlord, but the sort-of-new and sort-of-secret Monkey King. And the competition itself had perhaps the greatest storylines of any International. There were teams I hated, and teams I really wanted to do well.

Everyone loves a villain, and the greatest villain on the Dota 2 scene right now is Team Secret. While the team has many fans, Secret strikes me as being particularly mercenary. Instead of building the best team, our villains consistently poach the best players. If a Team Secret line-up doesn’t work out, the group doesn’t try to work on weak areas and improve team dynamic. They just swap out one star player for another. I’m reliably informed that they’re like the Yankees in this regard.

If player poaching isn’t reason enough to hate a team, consider the way in which Secret does their poaching. The details are too long and boring to get into here, but their most recent hunt for players hurt another team—the 2015 winners Evil Geniuses. The resultant fallout almost destroyed a third team named Digital Chaos. Both groups recovered, just, but Secret’s moves put both teams and, arguably, player careers in jeopardy.

So watching Team Secret go out in last place at The International was pretty darn fabulous. Look, seeing your own team win is great. But seeing a team you hate lose? It’s almost better.

Sadly, the team I most wanted to win also underperformed and went out at the same stage as Secret. I’m a Na`Vi fanboy to be sure, not least because I think that Danil “Dendi” Ishutin is one of the greatest ambassadors the game has. I love Dendi, and so I’ll always want Na`Vi to win. But I do this with the resignation of a fan who knows that the team’s performances can be a little. uneven. It’s not the despair—I can stand the despair. It’s the hope. Being a Na`Vi supporter isn’t easy, and I was gutted when they lost their best-of-one elimination match. The joy of seeing Secret go out was almost—but not completely—erased.

Underdog stories

But no matter! Other heroes needed cheering on. Chief among them were Digital Chaos, the team ravaged by Secret’s pillaging, and TNC Pro Team, a Filipino team captained by legendary American Dota 2 stalwart Jimmy “DeMoN” Ho. DeMoN has been a part of Dota 2 since the beginning and placed fourth in the very first International back in 2011. He was part of the 2011-2013 Evil Geniuses team that had a reputation for throwing away massive leads and losing games that should have been in the bag. DeMoN was thinking of retiring from Dota 2 if he didn’t have a good run at TI6.

As for Digital Chaos, they were looking mediocre at best coming into the tournament. But their history—the way they were formed as a last-minute team of rejects—the fact that the team owner Shannon “SUNSfan” Scotten was perhaps best known for the Dota 2 “Fails of the Week” series on YouTube—their choice of professional idiot Jake “SirActionSlacks” Kanner as official substitute—you couldn’t help but support them as one of the true underdogs of the tournament.

Surpassing all expectations, TNC finished 7/8th overall and scored the biggest payday any of the team’s members had ever won. They shocked everyone with a 2-0 win to knock out tournament favorites OG, and they inspired everyone with their tight, confident team play. TNC were knocked out by Digital Chaos, who hit their form at the perfect moment.

Digital Chaos won game after game that they weren’t meant to. Knocked down into the lower bracket by unpredictable Chinese team Wings, Digital Chaos took out two mainstays of the Chinese scene—LGD Gaming and EHOME—one of South East Asia’s strongest teams, Fnatic, as well as TNC. Based on past form, DC probably shouldn’t have won any of these games, but their play at TI6 was better than it has ever been. Every round felt like it should have been their last, and yet, every round they upped their game and kept on going.

When Wings beat EG in the upper bracket final, knocking them down to the lower bracket, the end of DC’s run seemed near. In spite of their loss, EG had been strong all tournament. A repeat of last year’s result—EG lost the winner’s bracket final, coming through the lower bracket final to win the Grand Final—looked inevitable.

But somehow it wasn’t to be: Digital Chaos defied the odds to beat EG and reach the best-of-five Grand Final. Wings had no shortage of supporters from KeyArena’s large Chinese contingent, but every neutral was backing this American-owned, largely European team, hoping against hope that they could do the unthinkable.

Digital Chaos didn’t, unfortunately. After taking the first game in the series, DC lost the next three, giving Wings a well-deserved 3-1 victory. And if any team other than DC had to win, Wings was a good one; of all the teams at TI6, they had the most varied, unusual team compositions, and they were consistently exciting to watch.

TI6 was filled with thrilling highs and stomach-twisting lows. The tournament’s passing has made my days a little emptier, a little duller. Professional Dota 2 is now in its quiet post-TI reshuffle period, when team after team will disintegrate while players regroup as they prepare to embark on the long road to TI7. It’s probably for the best. I don’t know how many 10-hour days of watching Dota 2 and eating KeyArena’s awful food I can stand, though I’d rather like to find out (the chicken tenders are the only thing on the menu worth eating, by the way). But, golly, these post-season blues are wretched. I just don’t know what to do with myself any more.

Resolu1ion’s time in Virtus Pro would prove short, as he would part ways with the team after an early elimination at StarLadder StarSeries Season 7. The team showed a high amount of potential, getting second at StarLadder StarSeries Season 9 and winning the Excellent Moscow Cup and Dota Champions League Season 3. Team Empire would later go on to be one of the invited to The International 2014, where the team suffered a disappointing finish at the group stages.

Nonetheless, the team returned to form by winning the Excellent Moscow Cup 2 and StarLadder StarSeries Season 11. Over the course of the following spring, they achieved first place finishes at joinDOTA MLG Pro League Season 1 and Dota 2 Champions League Season 5 as well as a second place finish at MarsTV Dota 2 League 2015 Spring, defeating many favorites of the succeeding International. In their peak once more, Team Empire was once again invited to The International 2015, to once again suffer a disappointing finish at bottom half of the tournament. The team’s loss continued to linger as Empire failed to qualify for premier events, including The Frankfurt Major and The Shanghai Major.

After the team’s failure to qualify in Shanghai, Resolu1ion left the CIS region and Team Empire for North America, joining Digital Chaos. [5] The change immediately proved costly as Digital Chaos had failed to make any notable wins, and the team faltered in qualifiers. After the team failed to qualify for EPICENTER 2016 the entire roster of the team except for Resolu1ion was replaced. The team proved deadly during the qualifiers of North America, and Resolu1ion began qualifying once again for Premier events, however they struggled at LAN events and finished second-to-last at The Manila Major and The Summit 5. During The International 2016, however, Digital Chaos shocked the scene by crushing the loser’s bracket after being sent there by eventual winners, Wings Gaming, and the team finished 2nd. As the year progressed, the team held better results with upper half finishes at The Boston Major and winning ESL One Genting 2017. The peak would not last long, however, and the team began faltering at StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 3, finishing bottom half.

Eventually, Digital Chaos’s co-founder, Sunsfan left the organization, [7] with Resolu1ion and the squad following suit shortly afterwards. [8] The squad would later go on to form Thunderbirds, and the team competed at The Kiev Major, only to be eliminated immediately in the main event by Evil Geniuses. After Kiev, the team qualified for EPICENTER 2017 and were subsequently signed by Planet Odd, [9] although they failed to make it out of the group stage at the main event. They failed to qualify for The International 2017, and after reaching second place at DreamLeague Season 7 the team disbanded.

Although originally attending The International 2017 as a member of the Russian panel, Resolut1on stood in for his former team, Team Empire, after Chappie had failed to acquire a visa in time. The team outperformed expectations and finished top 8, falling at the hands of eventual winners Team Liquid. Resolut1ion’s time as a free agent would be short, as he was immediately recruited by OG to replace ana, returning to the mid role he played for the first half of his career.

Resolut1on was released from OG on March 17, 2018. [10] Shortly after that Effect announced Resolut1on will join them as a stand-in for DAC 2018. [11]

It is all from dota allstars in warcraft 3. If you look at the library in game then all of the bottom heroes are dire and top are radiant.

I think its because invoker is/was a blood elf and those belong to the scourge.
Meepo and magnus are also on the dire/scourge, and they dont look evil as well.

Honestly, this whole Alignment thing could be easily solved by creating a “Neutral” s > Puck and Sven end up on the same s > Ursa , Treant Protector , and Crystal Maiden . Conversely, less villainous characters on the Dire like Death Prophet , Razor , and Dazzle are clumped together with extremely evil characters like Pugna , Venomancer , Shadow Demon , and of course, the Devil himself, Doom Bringer.

Here are some oddly aligned characters:

Troll Warlord is on the Radiant despite being a psychotic murderer who threatens to kill his allies.
Magnus is on the Dire despite being a victim seeking justice against nasty poachers.
Lycanthrope is on the Dire even though he is non villainous at all, also a victim seeking justice.
Bounty Hunter works for money, yet he is on the Radiant side when he could just as logically work for the Dire.
Rubick is an odd case, because he doesn’t seem evil, but rather, a bit crazy, since he did enjoy murdering all those wizards who tried to kill him.
Centaur Warrunner is on the Radiant side despite being a barbaric dude who is pretty addicted to violence. (Note: in his original Dota lore, he was flat out heroic)
Sand King is the representation of a desert, he is neither good nor evil.
Similarly, Enigma , Spectre , and Faceless Void also have no reason to be on the Dire, aside from looking evil, because they are not evil either.
Lone Druid is basically trying to end the world, totally Radiant tho.
Meepo is similarly on the Dire, and he’s just flat out comic relief and neutral in his alliance, seeking only the monies.
Timbersaw is crazy, hates trees, yet works for tree people. Someone needs to explain this to me.

Well I think I need to straihten this up. The affiliations does not mean where the heroes are standing in term of morality, no. It simply means where they live. Remember the dota 2 comic ‘Are we there yet‘? It explains that the dire and radiant are both civilizations created by the fall of direstone and radiant ore, gaining source of energy from each said stone.

This is why heroes are separated in two, in which they naturally lives in the radiant or in the dire civilization, which has absolutely nothing to do with morality (even if the radiant ore is depicted to give light energy, while direstone gives dark energy). Of course, some heroes choose their own civilization to affiliate with (say, Spectre or Enigma ) for various reasons, but the most popular one is that because they are from outer space, thus having no actual bornplace.

Think about it this way: the affiliations only shows which side of civilization they fight in the war, which WAS created in dota 1 because back then we can choose not to input the all pick mode, and players were only given choice to play with dire(scourge) hero if they are jn that faction and vice versa. Dota 2 lore dire and radiant I think it became tradition that is odd if it’s suddenly changed.

About Invoker , back in wc3 time, his lore tells us that he WAS in Sentinel(Radiant), but became Scourge(Dire) to seek revenge. Like what Tim sa >

Well. it’s pretty easy.

First, Dire side is cooler. No arguments, Radiant are a bunch of wimps.

Also, he is a titanic wanker. He SEEMS nice at first, but then you realise, no, he’s a jerk.

Yzreel gave the not-so-fun explanation 😦

There are two kinds of people in the world; those who can count, and those who can’t.

What is Dota 2 Console and Autoexec. cfg and Best Commands

What is Dota 2 Console and Autoexec. cfg and Best Commands

Dota 2 Console and Autoexec. cfg and Best Commands to Use

Before I tell you what are best console commands, let me first share some basic information with you.

What is Dota 2 Console

Dota 2 Console is a window which opens in Dota 2 game just like command prompt in any windows. It allows users to add different commands to change anything related to Dota 2. You can add those commands via Dota 2 Console, or you can use them in autoexec. cfg file.

How to use Dota 2 Console

In old Dota 2 there was a long procedure to activate and use Dota 2 Console, but in Dota 2 reborn, its simple.

  1. Sign in to Steam and launch Dota 2.
  2. Go to Dota 2 settings and further in Options. In bottom right most option, check “Enable Console
  3. Now go to Hotkeys and there select any key for Console.
  4. When in game, you will press that key console will appear.
  5. If you want to close it, then just press that selected key again or click X icon on the top right corner of the console window.

What is autoexec. cfg

If we want to use lots of commands in our console, then its very difficult to type lots of commands each time we start Dota 2. So we can automate that process by adding a new file in our Dota 2 folder. That new file we add is “autoexec. cfg” and we add console commands in it. Each time game starts, this file automatically executes all those commands which are written in autoexec. cfg file.

How to use autoexec. cfg

To make things easy I will suggest you go to Control Panel >> Tools >> Folder Options >> Uncheck – Hide extensions for known file types.

  1. First of all, go to your check if your operating system is 32 bit or 64 bit. Then choose the appropriate path.
    • For 32-bit Windows:C:/Program Files >>Steam>>steamapps >>common >>dota 2 beta >>dota >>cfg
    • For 64-bit Windows:C:/Program Files (x86) >>Steam >>steamapps >>common >>dota 2 beta >>dota>>cfg
  2. In case you have installed the game in any drive other than C, then you should just go to “dota 2 beta >>dota >>cfg”.
  3. Right-click anywhere in the opened window then click New and select Text Document
  4. Once new text document is created, name it autoexec. cfg and then press Enter. So now we have created a blank autoexec. cfg and now it is ready and it has the necessary file type.
  5. Now you must open it with Notepad where you can add or delete your required commands.
  6. When you play your first game, whatever commands you added in your “autoexec. cfg” will also be added automatically in your main configuration file which is “config. cfg“. To stop Dota 2 from doing it, right-click on config. cfg >> Properties >> Attributes >> Read-only.
  7. The file is created now and we need it to load automatically whenever we start Dota 2. To do so, go to Steam ⇒ Library⇒ Right click on Dota 2 – Properties ⇒ Set Launch Options ⇒ add +exec autoexec. cfg

You do not have to remove the quotation marks (“”) from commands

So, now you may ask, what are the commands that I need to add in autoexec. cfg. So you can see below, these are the best to use commands in Dota 2 and most of the commands are used by Pro Dota 2 players like Funn1k and Arteezy. If you want to their files, you can just download the autoexec. cfg files used by these pro players, or you can make a new file for yourself and use whatever you want.

Here is a list of Dota 2 Console Commands which had ALL the commands.

Best Dota 2 Console Commands

For now, I will write down below about console commands which Na’Vi Funn1k and Arteezy use during the game. I will also explain what those commands actually do and why should we use it.

Arteezy’s Autoexec. cfg file

Also here is Arteezy’s old cfg (dont know if still actual):

Copy commands after line below.

con_enable “1” //Enables Console

cl_cmdrate “60” //Amount of updates sent to server per second

cl_updaterate “60” //Amount of updates received from server per second

rate “80000” //Total amount of bandwith dota may use

cl_interp “0” //More network stuff below…

dota_camera_disable_zoom “1” //Can’t zoom camera in

dota_disable_range_finder 0 //Shows spells are within casting range of targeted area/target

dota_minimap_hero_size 1100 //Changes the size of heroes on the minimap

dota_minimap_misclick_time “0” //Removes delay before allowing input on minimap

dota_health_hurt_decay_time_max “0” //Fade time on Damage done/received reduced to instant

bind “F1” “dota_camera_setpos -2273.898682 1232.745483 982.072876” // Top Rune, Camera Bind

bind “F2” “dota_camera_setpos 3035.773438 -2972.680176 966.072937” // Bot Rune, Camera bind

Copy till above line.

These are old commands to activate network information which Funn1k and Arteezy used. But these commands are no more required. Now in Dota 2 Reborn, you can activate it via your Dota 2 settings. Simply go to Dota 2 >> Settings >> Options >> Check show network information. See image below for easy understanding.

MTG Throne of Eldraine France Leak Details

Three Rowan Throne of Eldraine cards have leaked in France, giving us a glimpse at the French versions of three cards in the upcoming expansion, according to Magic Spoiler. It is uncertain at this time where the leak originated from, be it a distributor, translator, store, or what have you.

Regardless, the photos of the three Rowan Throne of Eldraine cards have been uploaded, despite the less than stellar resolution of the pictures. With these cards revealed, we have our first look at the upcoming expansion and gives us an idea of what to expect from it when it releases in October.

It is interesting that of all the cards to leak, it was not one but three different Rowan Throne of Eldraine cards. With so much focus put on the Planeswalker, it is possible that he will be the featured character for the expansion, much like Chandra was in the recent Magic Core Set 2020.

This coincides with the fact that head designer at Wizards of the Coast Mark Rosewater revealed the artwork for Rowan at the recent Throne of Eldraine reveal panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2019. All signs are pointing at the character getting a lot of love in this fairy tale-themed fall expansion.

This would actually be unfortunate if that is the case, though, because that would mean yet another focus on the red color decks and potentially mono-red aggro, specifically, like was the case with Chandra, Awakened Inferno in the most recent addition to the game.

Though there has been an upswing of pro players using the Bant Scapeshift deck recently, it doesn’t mean that red should still get some love even if mono-red aggro decks are one of the best answers to the Scapeshift deck. Regardless, these three new cards from the expansion are awesome.

Rowan, Intrep >

Having been translated by Magic Spoiler, we can dig into what these cards say and what they will likely be doing in their English version as well. Starting from the top is the legendary Planeswalker card Rowan, Intrepid Sparkmage. While a really cool name, it is possible the name or other words in the translation could be changed in the final English release so keep that in mind.

This is a mythic rare Planeswalker card that could be the featured one in the entire series. It costs five mana to summon Rowan, Intrepid Sparkmage, two of which must be red. For his plus one loyalty ability, you are able to select one target creature and it will receive plus three to attack and first strike until the end of the turn.

That’s a simple but useful enough ability for gathering up those loyalty points on the field. Then, the second ability costs two loyalty points and what it does is deal one damage to up to two target creatures on the field. In addition, those targeted creatures will not be able to block this turn.

Finally, Rowan, Intrepid Sparkmage’s final ultimate ability costs nine loyalty points and is quite bizarre but amazing. Until the end of this turn, you will control all of the creatures along with haste. In addition, if they are tapped, you will untap them. Presumably, this also includes enemy creatures.

This is an insane ultimate ability that allows you to potentially end the game right there with that one move. Needless to say, this new Rowan legendary Planeswalker card will be giving some more love yet again to the mono-red aggro deck. Though that is the most important card leaked, it’s not the only one.

Rowan’s Bodyguard Creature Card Revealed

The other two cards relate to Rowan as well and pair well with the Intrepid Sparkmage. Next up is the card Rowan’s Bodyguard. This female human knight costs four mana to summon to the field, one of which must be red. Unfortunately, the low resolution leaked picture covers up the stats so we aren’t sure about her attack and health.

But what we do know is that those stats will likely be important to the card, based on the abilities that she has. To begin with, she has haste so she is able to come out of the gates running as soon as she is summoned to the field and attack with no summoning sickness whatsoever.

The ability that Rowan’s Bodyguard has is that she gains plus three to attack as long as the player also controls a Rowan Planeswalker card at the same time. You can already begin to see where this combo is going as Rowan, Intrepid Sparkmage is also able to give plus three to one creature.

Suddenly, you have a potentially near unstoppable force at the early to mid game as she could have up to six more attack, just based on those two abilities alone. Finally, there is one more card that was revealed and it’s one that you will likely want to play before the other two new Rowan Throne of Eldraine cards.

Rowan’s Valiant Creature Card Revealed

The final Rowan card leaked recently is Rowan’s Valiant, which does seem like an odd name when translated directly so it wouldn’t be surprising if this one is changed in the English release. This is another human knight creature card that is cut off a bit like Rowan’s Bodyguard but gives us a bit more detail.

It looks like the mana cost of Rowan’s Valiant is five mana (but could be six), one of which must be red. In addition, we can see some of its stats and we know for sure that its attack is five while its health looks to be two. Its abilities is a simple one that makes it worth playing early on, if possible.

When Rowan’s Valiant enters the field, you are allowed to search your deck for Rowan, Intrepid Sparkmage then reveal it to your enemy, and add it to your hand. Then you will shuffle up your deck again. This is a great starter card early in the match as it opens up the way for the aforementioned combos above.

We will, unfortunately, have to wait for more info regarding the upcoming expansion since these are the only cards we’ve seen thus far from it. Though with these leaks and the expansion being less than two months away, it wouldn’t be surprising for some official spoilers in the coming weeks.

Players can look forward to the official release date of MTG Throne of Eldraine on October 4 where we will be able to see all of the fairy tale goodness that the mysterious world of Eldraine will offer. The prerelease date for the fall expansion is September 28-29 with the digital releases on MTG Arena and Magic Online likely around the same time.

Dota 2 relics that should be brought back from the dead

Team Zephyr
They may not have been TI winners, but the story of Team Zephyr captured the hearts of Dota fans in a way no other team has before or since. These enterprising lads left their homes to move to Korea and dominated the scene there. The Korean scene hasn’t made any advancements since the Zephyr’s historic Nexon Sponsorship League victory, maybe it’s time for a reunion?

If you aren’t familiar with the story of Team Zephyr, this YouTube video from “Bonsaii” is a fantastic overview of Zephyr’s journey. It’s even Purge-approved!

Valve made the critical mistake of using the word “annual” in their descriptions of Diretide, Dota 2’s first custom game mode slash event. It first appeared in 2012 but when word got out that it would not return in 2013, the community went absolutely bonkers, spamming the internet at large with “༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ GIFF DIRETIDE ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ” memes.

Valve delivered, but the event was not seen again after it’s second year. We’ve since received new holiday events like New Bloom and this year’s Dark Moon, but maybe Diretide’s time to rise from the grave has finally come?

It’s likely that a significant percentage of Dota 2’s newer playerbase don’t even know that Wraith King wasn’t always so corporeal. Back in 2013, he was the King of Bones, the Skeleton King. Valve never gave their reasoning for the change, but the reigning theories are either Blizzard exerting pressure due to similarities to either Leoric and Diablo’s Skeleton King boss or something to do with Chinese censorship of skulls and skeletons. A “low violence” version of Skeleton King existed, but was no longer needed with the change to Wraith King.

This is definitely the most literal interpretation of a much-wanted Dota 2 reincarnation.

Team Zephyr were the little team that could, but Team DK were true legends of Dota 2. The organization formed in 2010 and became the place where some of Chinese Dota’s biggest stars made their names. Xu ‘BurNing‘ Zhilei, Daryl ‘iceiceice‘ Koh, Zhi Cheng ‘LaNm‘ Zhang, Zeng Rong ‘MMY‘ Lei Fan ‘rOtk‘ Bai, and Xie ‘Super!‘ Junhao (and Su ‘super‘ Peng too!) all played for the team at one time or another.

They missed the first TI because of visa and roster issues, but attended TI2 through TI4. They came 4th at both their first and last Tis, and just 5th-6th at TI3, but their era ended when the team went their separate ways after TI4.

The organization never recovered, and they shut their doors in November 2015. If any dead Dota 2 organization should be resurrected, it’s Team DK.

Alpine Stalker
Did you think reddit only started getting its way as a recent phenomenon? Community feedback about the Alpine Stalker’s set, an Ursa set featuring a jaunty cap and lederhosen, caused it to be removed after just about a week on the store. Since then, it’s become legendary, and the parts of the set are some of the few once-common items to be upgraded to Immortal after their removal from the store.

Owners of the set would rage to see its marketplace value tank if it came back and it more than likely never will, but it would be great to see it return in some form or other. Plenty of weird sets have been added to the game since, it would fit right in at this point.

The Reach beta has concluded and the team is now working hard towards the Season 1 launch. Here we share some of the details on the upcoming Season, and what players can expect when they log in to play.

The new patch is wild, with all the positive and maybe some negative connotations this word implies. As such, we are trying to be extremely cautious when discussing it so that we don’t unnecessarily invoke some misguided disenchantment from the community.

62 new items are available for finding, not purchasing. You can now build your inventory through jungling and not spending your gold. Is this good? Bad? Who knows, it’s too early to tell.

The Reach Beta has been a valuable month for us at Elo. The feedback from our community has allowed us to make considerable progress in refining the key automated systems of the platform and we couldn’t possibly be more excited to see people begin to play in Season One.

This is going to be less of a stats recap and more of a farewell to a patch, which overstayed its welcome for at least a couple of months. Instead of going over the same heroes once more, we felt it is more appropriate to highlight some of the heroes which were outside of the meta at the tournament’s start, but nevertheless had a great impact in the later stages of MDL Chengdu.

Bounty runes, come back gold, ancient creeps, camps stacking, and more. The economy of Dota keeps growing and growing but how does that affect supports and cores?

We’ve done a lot of testing with our current systems in the Reach league and are finally confident in opening it up to more users. Divine level players may now participate in Reach, effective immediately.

The first major tournament of the season is finally happening. Get up to date with all the teams participating, their odds of winning it all, and more!

Patch 7.22 is certainly overstaying its welcome and it clearly shows in the current professional tournaments. There are almost no new meta developments and for the most part the Summit 11 concentrated on the same exact heroes as the tournaments prior.

Captains and drafters are some of the most revered pros in the scene. The genius drafting strategies and counter picks can win the game before the first bounty runes spawn. Here are some draft ideas to try out for your next battle cup tournament.

Reach had an exciting and informative first week of games, with over 1000 matches played, and over 1200 unique players participating. Here’s the rundown on week 1, and what’s coming down the pipeline.

The idea of a tanky frontline hero in the offlane has been repeated over and over again for the last several months. It makes sense on the professional scene, while working incredibly well in pubs. Building survivability items and allowing yourself to be initiated on has become the go to strategy for a lot of teams and it is unlikely to change until after the new patch is released.

MMR may just be a number but a higher number is superior. Read this article to learn a few tips and tricks on growing your MMR number.

The current meta has been established for a long time but teams still must find their slight edge. At ESL One Hamburg 2019, we saw more of what we’ve been seeing for a few months now.

Feedback has been tremendous and consistent through the first two days of Reach play. We’ve heard the feedback, and we’re working on fixes. We’ll continue to communicate as we develop the platform, and continue iterate based on that feedback up to and through the launch of Season 1.

League of Legends vs. DOTA 2

An introduction to the two

League of Legends and DOTA 2 are two of the most prominent MOBA’s or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games on the globe right now. The two might seem worlds apart, but they are actually both based on the same game mod which was Defence Of the Ancients which was released in 2003, with that itself being a mod for Warcraft III. However, skip back to the modern day we find fans filling up stadiums watching professional gamers of both League of Legends and DOTA 2 respectively. So what makes them so popular when it comes to E-Sports? And how is League of Legends pitting itself against DOTA 2?

One of the main things that attract players to MOBA’s is the strategy behind the game. If we look at the number of different team possibilities in LOL E-Sports , it is a staggering 765 quintillion or 7 with 20 digits following it. Not only this but there are many different strategies your team can take in terms of where to attack an enemy or to flank them at a certain point in time. There is also the vanity aspect where players can purchase customized skins for their favorite champions through micro-transactions. There are also constant updates to the game such as introducing new champions, making alterations to existing champions and introducing new maps.

How does League of Legends fare against DOTA 2?

Although the two MOBA’s are both based on the same game, there are plenty of differences between the two. We’re going to look at what gives League of Legends the edge over its fierce rival. Both games have the same base layout where there is a middle lane, a top lane, and a bottom lane. Typically you’ll have two players in the top lane, one in the middle and two at the bottom. The first significant difference is that there are more skill shots when it comes to League of Legends, a skill shot is where a player must manually aim and sometimes predict the movement of the opposition a couple of seconds ahead adding a new element of skill to the game.

League of Legends is also a lot faster paced than DOTA 2 where your champion can turn and move instantly, whereas the mechanics in DOTA mean that you have to wait for your character to turn before moving. The roles of each player in League of Legends is also a lot simpler. There are five leading roles, your ADC or Attack Damage Carry, Top, Mid, Jungler and a Support. However, this gets a bit more complicated in DOTA 2 with there being a total of 9 roles.

The E-Sports scene for League of Legends began in 2009 when the first professional league of legends tournament was hosted by Riot Games, the developers of the game. Since then we’ve seen tournament pots reach more than $2 million in 2014 and 2015 with the World Championship Finals being held in South Korea’s National Stadium.

A final few words

Last year there were roughly around 120 million people playing League of Legends and with the player base for DOTA 2 being approximately around 20 million. League of Legends was released after DOTA 2 however the amount of effort Riot Games has put into both the updates, the vanity aspects of the game and the E-Sports scene has seen them take the industry by storm; however the prize pots in League of Legends are dwarfed by the biggest DOTA 2 pot which was a staggering $25 million, with many of the wealthiest E-Sports stars being DOTA 2 players.

The mother of all MOBA games, Defense of the Ancients is the tale of a gaming revolution.

A review by Peter

From the development company Blizzard comes Defense of the Ancients or DotA, a multiplayer online battle arena mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and the expansion Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Since it’s release in 2003 the game was a huge success worldwide and has shaped the online gaming ever since.

The gameplay consists of two teams fighting each other, the Sentinel and the Scourge. Each team has a unique set of heroes to choose from and each Hero has a unique ability set and playstyle. The goal of the match is to destroy your enemy’s “Ancient” that results in victory. The 3 paths leading to the Ancients are guarded by 6 towers in total and each path has a wave of units that spawns periodically. By killing these units or enemy Heroes you earn gold which you can use to buy different items and recipes from different shops found on the map. These items strengthen your Hero by adding additional Agility, Strength, Intelligence, Speed etc.

Killing the spawned units also gives you XP which levels up your Hero, granting him new abilities and improving his stats. Buying items and forging them with recipes based on your Hero’s primary attribute (Strength, Agility, Intelligence) is crucial for gaining the upper hand in battle. Working well with your teammates is also essential. Since online lobbies can carry up to 5vs5 player battles, good teamwork and coordination make all the difference.
