Dota 2 patch 6.86 released, first pro games happening right now

Update 16th December, 2015: The patch is now live to download through Steam, after a day of bugfixing and other bits and bobs on the test server. I sure hope they fixed everything. Wouldn’t be like Valve to release content that hadn’t been tested properly now, would it?

Now would be a good time to play some nice Dota 2 custom games and forget your troubles.

If you’re interested in watching some pro games, esteemed PCGamesN contributor Chris Higgins points me at this arhiveof Virtus Pro vs. Team STARK, part of the MarsTV Dota 2 League, which was the first Dota game of 6.86 played. Mid-series, even. What a fun trainwreck it was.

Meanwhile the World Cyber Arena has started, a much-maligned but nevertheless massively-prize-pooled Chinese tournaments with some of the best teams in the world, including Secret and all the major Chinese teams. The streams are split across BeyondTheSummitand the pair of JoinDota streams, Red and Blue. It’s running until Monday, and will be the final tournament of the year as well as the first tournament on 6.86.

Update 15th December, 2015: The full patch notes are now available for The Balance of Power, as the patch is officially known. It adds a hero, Arc Warden, four new items, redesigns Riki, Doom, Death Prophet, Faceless Void, Lone Druid and Winter Wyrvern. Perhaps most terrifying of all, Earth Spirit (along with Oracle and Terrorblade) has been added to Captain’s Mode.

You can read the full patch notes on the official site. Here’s the highlights:

  • Added Arcane Rune, reduces cooldowns and mana costs.
  • Added a new neutral hard camp for each team, near their respective Secret Shops.
  • Iron Branch can now be used by targeting the ground, planting a happy little tree.
  • The usual billion and a half hero and item changes.

Original article:Dota 2’s next massive patch is just around the corner, but patch notes for 6.86 haven’t yet appeared. Instead there’s a teaser site, memes and anger. Just what the doctor ordered.

The teaser site has a nice big image of a team containing current-patch all star Doom and lesser friends Lone Druid (bear not pictured), Faceless Void, Rikimaru and Death Prophet. All the community’s digging and theorising and possibility considering has resulted in nothing of any possible worth being gleaned from that, but gosh have they tried:

Meanwhile the thread on Reddit linking to it so far has 5000+ upvotes in a little over an hour, which is impressive work for something that is, as the flair says, “literally nothing.”

We’ll keep this post updated with whatever comes to pass. In the mean time, here’s proof that the Dota 2 Test Client has been changed today, another sign the patch should be coming soon, were one needed. For now, the waiting game continues.

DotA 2: How to stack the Radiant’s neutral creep camps

The update 6.86 for DotA 2 (The Balance of Power) is finally here with ton of changes in the map as well as the heroes and items. Most of the players in DotA 2 can’t really get an idea of how to pull or stack the creep camps on the Radiant side. Basically each camp has its own time of pulling and stacking. If you just know how to stack a creep camp, then pulling a camp is also not a big deal.

Let’s start off with the first creep camp in the Radiant jungle. The creeps spawned in this camp are still the same but due to a slightly varying path, players might want to lookout for enemy that can steal the stacks easily. But don’t worry, an Observer Ward will sort out this problem for normal situations.

First of all, if you want to stack any camp, make sure that your timings are really good. Even a fraction of a second will make all of your stacking efforts useless. Grab a quelling blade or some tangos if you’re just going to stack for the first couple of minutes for your carry or mid. Cut the two green highlighted trees with the help of your quelling blade or tangos as shown in the picture below.

Half of your job is already accomplished by doing this small thing. Next all you’ve to do is to attack the neutral creeps at an exact time. When the clock will hit XX:55 mark (XX are the number of minutes that we’re not concerned with. We’re just concerned with the number of seconds in the game), just attack the creeps in the camp and move your hero towards the path that you made earlier by cutting down those two trees.

If you do this on timing then you’ll surely get your camp stacked. You can repeat this step again and again to stack more for your team.

Note that time of stacking neutral creeps on each camp may vary. Some of the neutral creeps can also be stacked at XX:53 mark.

Now just move your hero towards the second creep camp. When you go towards the second camp, you really don’t need to cut any tree. You can just stack this camp easily by going on 3 alternative directions. The time for stacking this camp is also the same. You just need to pull it at exactly XX:55 mark.

As mentioned before, if you do this thing on exactly the same mark, then your neutral creep camp should be stacked.

Although the procedure for stacking neutral creeps on the third camp is almost the same but the time for stacking is a little bit earlier than first/second camp. First of all you should cut the green highlighted tree as mentioned below in the picture. This will assure that the creeps in this camp will be stacked if you do everything with perfect timing.

Once you cut the tree, just attack the creep on this camp by XX:53 mark and move your hero in the direction in which you cut that tree. By doing so, this camp will be stacked but make sure to put up an Observer Ward on the top of cliff to protect the stacked camp from your enemies.

The fourth camp can easily be stacked just like the second Radiant neutral camp. The only difference is that the time for stacking this camp is XX:53 rather than XX:55. You can move your hero in two alternative directions after attacking the creep in order to stack the camp. Like the same old story, if you do this perfectly, then the creeps in this camp will be stacked.

The last camp in the Radiant jungle is a new camp location introduced in the update 6.86. This camp involves big neutral creeps so it is always a good idea to stack this camp particularly for your carry at the bottom lane. To stack the camp, take down the green highlighted tree to make sure that the camp would be stacked.

After you cut down the tree, just attack any creep in the camp at XX:55 mark. At that moment, just move your hero towards the bottom lane to make sure that the creeps will be stacked at the time. And here it is your Radiant jungle completely stacked.

The last non-Ancient neutral creep camp of Radiant is an additional camp introduced in the patch The Balance of Power. It is located near the Ancient camp of Radiant s >This will allow you to stack this camp easily. When the clock hits at XX:55 mark, just attack the creep in that camp and move your hero in the direction mentioned below.

Just make sure that you do this on a perfect timing to stack the creeps on this camp.

Hope you’ve found this guide useful in DotA 2. Have you got any new stacking procedure in the game? Let us know in the comments below.

Top 10 Dota 2 Carry Heroes in 2018

With Valve just recently releasing its Dota 2 Update 7.18, a number of changes made their way into the making. This includes everything from hero/item alternations to a complete change of the game’s Meta. Dota 2 best hero picks This means everything we know about the game has changed in some way or the other. so, to better educate our readers of the current Carry heroes of the Meta, we are here with a list of the 10 best Dota 2 Carry Heroes of 2018.

    Dota 2 Carry Heroes

The Meta for Dota 2 has changed and we are already seeing some new faces making their mark in the current Meta. Dota 2 best hero picks However, with Icefrog’s effort to balance the game, he made various changes that completely nerfed some of the most picked heroes while bringing up some that we weren’t used to in a very long time. So, without taking any more of your time, here are the 10 best Carry Heroes in the year 2018.

    1. Ursa

Ursa is one of the most popular choices for the role of Carry in the current Dota 2 Meta. Dota 2 best hero picks This is due to the recent love the developers have shown to the agility based hero. This combined with his extremely powerful, yet tanky abilities make him a true beast in the game.

    2. Spectre

Spectre has been a hero which was a consistent pick even before patch 7.19. Though, after the update tides favored Spectre even more. Her desolate has been buffed up giving Spectre more ease in farming, as well as her updated Dispersion, has given her enhanced tankability during team fights.

    3. Terrorblade

Terrorblade finally got his place back in competitive Dota 2 with the recent patches. Immediately after, we saw teams picking up the split push carry to their advantage. Terrorblade’s farming, mobility build that professional players tend to make on this hero has allowed him to fit in many situations.

    4. Anti-Mage

Well, one cannot just ignore Magina from the competitive scene no matter what. Anti Mage has been a life saver for many professional teams who consider this hero their last resort in times of need. No matter the changes to the Meta, you will still see Anti Mage being picked up by professional teams every no own then.

    5. Phantom Lancer

The place of both Phantom Lancer and Anti-Mage is relatively the same. Phantom lancer slightly wins during the current Meta because of his farming abilities as well as his input from early game. Though professional players tend to favor the hero more for split pushing it certainly doesn’t mean Phantom lancer isn’t good in team fights.

    6. Gyrocopter

Though there were slight nerfs to the hero, Gyrocopter still remains a solid pick in the competitive scene. The AOE damage burst and lock down abilities of Gyrocopter make him a favorable pick in many matches. Plus, his incredible ability to quickly finish off lanes, and heroes make him a true contender in the fight for the best Dota 2 Carry.

    7. Ember Spirit

A hero that is favored in both mid and carry role, Ember Spirit’s snowball mechanics are so good that no team wants to let go it to others. Ember Spirit is a greatly contested hero in professional matches who will either be picked or get banned in the drafting stage. Almost every team is good with Ember Spirit on their side and therefore the hero is expected to be heavily contested in the future as well.

    8. Alchemist

Ever since the update, Alchemist has been revived from the dead. The new build on Alchemist is working wonders in the professional scene and the hero is getting contested more than ever. VG’s Super is trying to get his hands on the hero whenever possible. Alchemist is definitely going to be one of those heroes you will be seeing at The International 2018.

    9. Shadow Fiend

Shadow Fiend is among those heroes that have great potential to come back from gold deficit really really fast. Even if Shadow Fiend does not have a good lane stage with a little bit of support and creep stacks Shadow Fiend can be up and running in no time. In-game Guides [ edit ]

Guides (sometimes also called Hero Builds) are guides created by players, that can suggest items and highlight abilities to level. They can be created and shared by players either in-game or through the Hero Builds Editor.

“Hero Builds Editor” has been out of order, probably since 2014.

    Changes [ edit ]

    • Detailed talents now show up on the Guide panel – In the Loadout / Strategy and the In-Game viewer.
    • Hero Guide Viewer now has sorting options for Your Guides and All Guides.
    • Author Name and Last Updated Time has been added to the Guide Viewer.
    • Hero Guide Viewer now also displays visual entries for Abilities and Talents.
    • Tooltip has been added to the favorite star on the Guide Viewer.
    • Fixed a couple of UI issues on the Guide Builder tool.

The first day of the playoffs is in the books at Frankfurt and only twelve teams remain after Cloud9, Fnatic, Newbee and Newbee. Young have been eliminated. You can see where the rest of the bracket currently stands here. The action resumes tomorrow at 10:30am CET.

In the meantime, check out this piece about the reigning TI5 champions, Evil Geniuses.

    The Frankfurt Major Group Stage

The first Dota Major Championship is nearly upon us. The battle begins as sixteen of the world’s best teams enter the Group Stage. You can follow all the action live in the Dota 2 client by visiting the new ‘Featured Tournament’ section. Check out real-time brackets as well as links to watch any matches you may have missed. Coverage is scheduled to begin around 10:00am CET (here’s a helpful time zone converter).

Our film team has put together a few short features for the event. The first follows CDEC’s stunning run from Wild Card underdog to championship contender at The International while capturing the thoughts of some of the biggest names in the game as they prepare for the Frankfurt Major. In addition, we’ve just added all the player profile videos from TI5 to Steam.

Add this free app to get updated videos in the future directly onto your Steam account.

    Enter the Haunted Colosseum

This year, we felt the best way to mark the passage of October was to create a spooky, pumpkin-filled Custom Game. Haunted Colosseum is a new 5-on-5 battle for territorial control, complete with Capture Points, devilish traps, and warrior behemoths. It’s available now, you can learn more about it here, and then launch Dota 2 to try it for yourself.

We’ve revamped the Custom Games overview page with the goal of promoting discovery of great Custom Games, and getting people into lobbies and playing as quickly as possible. To do that, we’ve replaced the “Suggested Games” list with an “Open Lobby” list, and we’ve added a new panel which highlights an automatically-chosen Game of the Day.

This update also includes the second Tribute treasure for Fall Compendium owners: the Tribute of the Sharpened Feather.

There are a lot of additional changes and improvements in this update, such as a new section in your profile for showing off your tournament tickets, a way to see and manage your downloaded replays, support for offline solo play, a new matchmaking region in Tokyo with connectivity to Taiwan and Korea, a couple of balance changes with 6.85b, and more. Check out the complete notes for the full rundown.

    Soaring Cache and Compendium Coins

Available exclusively to Fall Compendium owners, the new Soaring Cache treasure contains 7 new sets, including a rare set for Warlock complete with a new Golem summon. The cache also has a very rare chance to contain the Padda’pon of Ribbi’tar Death Ward item for Witch Doctor, which can further be customized by Prismatic Gems. Additionally, every fifth Soaring Cache you open will also yield a Bonus Cache which contains either 5, 11, 24 Compendium levels, the Warlock set or the Ribbi’tar Death Ward. Unlike the previous Collector’s Cache items which were never tradable, the Soaring Cache items can be traded like normal Treasure items and are immediately giftable and fully tradable a month after the event ends. You can also recycle any Soaring Cache items for 2 Compendium Levels.

We’ve also made a number of improvements to increase everyone’s coin earnings. We’ve removed the 5% cut from Coin Wager winnings and added Wager Bonuses which increase how many coins you can win from a match wager as well as allowing you to earn Coins even when the opponents did not wager. Compendium owners also now have a chance to receive a Coin Treasure or 750 Coin Pack at the end of a match.

When the Reborn Update released last month, new music arrived with it. The Dota 2 Reborn theme is an update to the original Dota 2 theme that also incorporates several new melodies which have been added to the game over the last several years. While the orchestra played, the cameras looked on. We’d like to present this look at the recording of the Dota 2 Reborn theme.

We are also pleased to announce that we have begun adding Russian voices to Dota’s heroes. This first release includes the default announcer and nine heroes, with more voices coming soon. Players can select which voice language they would like to hear by opening Steam and right-clicking on Dota 2. From here, select Properties, then Language, and choose your preferred voice language. Steam will then download the new language.

Several other features and fixes are also included in today’s update, including the return of Team Matchmaking, and the ability to share announcers with other players in your matches. Check out the update notes for more information.

    The Frankfurt Major Teams

The dust has settled. After hundreds of Dota matches across the Open and Regional Qualifiers, eight teams have emerged victorious. These teams will now join the directly invited teams to make up the final sixteen that will compete at The Frankfurt Major.

Already, the road to The Frankfurt Major has been packed with excitement as both veteran and rookie teams have proven their worth. While former champions Alliance, Invictus Gaming, and NewBee made a return to prominence, extremely solid play was seen from Fnatic, Cloud9, Mineski and (Monkey) Business. Especially impressive were Team Unknown, a Peruvian squad who entered the Open Qualifiers and then fought all the way to the Main Event through the Americas Qualifiers.

The Main Event for The Frankfurt Major will take place at Festhalle Messe in Frankfurt, Germany this November 16 through 21. The sixteen teams will battle over six days, using the same Main Event format as The International, to claim their piece of the $3,000,000 prize pool.

If you’ve never been to a live Dota tournament, don’t miss out on your chance to see the action in person, meet the players and personalities, and check out the merchandise available at the Secret Shop. Tickets to The Frankfurt Major Finals are still available, and can be purchased here.

    New Features and Fixes

As part of today’s update, we’re releasing new features and improvements for item management and chat.

New to the Armory, the Collection view gives you a fully customizable space to easily arrange and organize your favorite items. With the help of a new filter to show items that aren’t already in the Collection, you can design your Armory in the way you see fit. If you had a previous layout that you liked from the legacy interface, you’ll be able to use a command to import that layout over. We’ve also added a new notification to the Armory to quickly see your most recently acquired items at a glance.

The new Item Details interface for customizing your items with gems has been enabled as well. You can access the Item Details panel by double-clicking on an item in the Armory. Additionally, the chat interface now allows you to share your party or lobby directly in any chat channel, making it easier for others to join you for a match.

A number of other important fixes are also included in this update, including many Arcana and Immortal visual fixes, as well as performance improvements. You can read the patch notes for the update here.

Dota 2 Hero Build: 6.85b Offlane Doom

The new patch for Dota 2 hit the client yesterday, so I decided to publish my Doom build (now obsolete, the hero has been reworked) for the previous patch, 6.85. It’s though as a game analysis of a very dominant strategy that was not seen that often on western servers.

TL;DR: Don’t go jungling with the new Doom in 6.85/6.85b.

The (Chinese) Doom in the 6.85/6.85b meta is played on the offlane. FORGET THE JUNGLE. If you go jungle with Doom in this meta, prepare to be called names and uninstall Dota afterwards. The important part is that you don’t play the afk-farming game with the new Doom; you need to be super aggressive with Scorched Earth, it’s that ridiculous, even after the 6.85b nerfs.

Doom is incredibly strong early on by running enemies down with his new buffed Scorched Earth in the laning phase.

As Doom you want to duolane the offlane. Lich is his PERFECT lane partner; he fixes the only real downside of Doom which is his abysmally low armor. The Doom & Lich combo is one of the strongest offlanes in this meta and almost guarantees an easy lane and at least a few kills. Lich would skill 1-1-1: We need Sacrifice to control the creep equilibrium and deny XP/Gold, Frost Blast for the slow/nuke and Ice Armor to dive towers.

A usual kill combo goes like this: Lich casts Ice Armor on Doom and initiates with his nuke to slow the enemy down. Doom pops his Scorched Earth while running him down and hitting occasionally. With Tranqs, Frost Armor and Scorched Earth, Doom can *easily* dive the T1 tower without too much hassle. Don’t back down when going in!

For ez lane harass and even more kill potential consider devouring a Mud Golem, as you get a free stun (has no mana cost) each 30 seconds which ties very well into the kill combo and skill cooldowns. Otherwise Alpha Wolf should be the usual priority, sometimes a Centaur can be good for the AoE stun.

His skill build should generally be 2-4-0-1, being less greedy and maximizing early kill potential, survivability and damage, as Scorched Earth scales so insanely well. If the lane is really easy one can get away with 4-2-0-1 (maxing Devour), but I don’t recommend it. At the start of the game skill Q first; with the bounty rune and a big jungle creep (bird, centaur or satyr) Doom hits level 2 by the 30 second mark.

For items, aside from the usual we start with a RoP (builds into Tranqs on the lane and gives much needed early game armor) into Tranqs (If with Lich, go for kill combo now), into OoV (Trade hits with the enemy at this point).

Depending on how well the lane goes, either go for Midas (2+ kills secured) or directly Drums (no or little kills) now. A Blink Dagger should be your next item to ensure getting off your surprise ultimate. NOTE: Doom’s cast point really sucks, consider going for Shadow Blade instead if you trouble casting Doom.

If you went for Tranqs, you most certainly will have mana problems by now. Consider building a Soul Ring (goes well with Tranq HP reg and Scorched Earth), Aghanims (which also helps shutting down specific heroes for real) or rely on your lane support (Arcane Boots) for mana. Patch notes dota 2 6 85b kmb Your next core item should be either AC or Shivas, for your most precious armor.

By now you should be winning the game; otherwise go for extension items like Heart/Refresher and pressure constantly with BoT.

    Item build

    Starting Items

    • Tangos: One stack of tangos should be enough until you have Tranqs.
    • Branches: They’re called GG branches for a reason.
    • Ring of Protection: Gives much needed extra armor in the early game and builds into Tranqs. (Can’t be bought in the side shop so we’re buying it at the fountain)
    • Stout Shield: You need last hits and with the stout shield you can stay in lane longer without regfood.

    Early Game

    • Tranquil Boots: Tranqs let you save Scorched Earth for when you really need it: killing other heroes.
    • Orb of Venom: Slows escaping heroes even more.
    • Magic Wand: Great against heroes that spam abilities a lot (Bristleback, etc.) and alleviates Doom’s low mana pool a bit.

    Core Items

    • Blink Dagger: Use Blink to initiate with your Ult.
    • Assault Cuirass: You need armor, lots. Either go this or Shiva’s, I personally prefer AC.
    • Shiva’s Guard: Go Shiva’s if a teammate already built AC.

    Extension Items

    • Aghanim’s Scepter: Good for your mana pool, and your Ultimate will be out of control.
    • Refresher Orb: Allows you to disable two heroes.
    • Boots of Travel: Be constantly pushing with these.

    Situational Items

    • Soul Ring: Great item if you went for Tranqs.
    • Hand of Midas: Either rush this or buy it if the lane goes REALLY well.
    • Drums of Endurance: For more early game initiation, usually good pickup.
    • Shadow Blade: Sometimes better than Blink Dagger, because of the Doom’s abysmal cast point.
    • Black King Bar: If the enemy team has LOTS of stuns.
    • Arcane Boots: Consider if your struggling with your mana pool and your support don’t buy them.

7 Celebrities who have dipped their toes in Dota 2

Keanu Reeves might have sent the gaming world (read normies) into a tizzy with his surprise appearance at E3 alongside Cyberpunk 2077. However, our beloved Dota 2 has had its fair share of stardom with many a celebrity dipping their toes into the space.

Here are 7 celebrities that have in some way, shape or form dabbled in the world of Dota 2

This was a one-off appearance by the beloved Hodor, which is why this is kind of low on this list.

During the Manila Major 2016 Finals, PGL called on Kristian Nairn, a. Dota 2 celebrities k.a. Dota 2 celebrities Game of Throne’s Hodor, to handle door duties for OG and Team Liquid before their Grand Finals match. Right after the iconic ‘Hodor scene’ was broadcast to the world.

Yup. One of the prettiest women on the planet plays Dota 2. And yes, she’s the one, with whom Steve Harvey had one of the biggest goof-ups in Miss Universe history.

Pia Wurtzbach, the Filipina Miss-Universe, surprised her Instagram followers by revealing that she enjoys the occasional Dota 2 game by posting a picture on her Instagram story of a simple Gaming set up with a MacBook and a Groot coffee mug next to it.

On the screen was an in-game Dota 2 screen, with the caption “It’s a DOTA kind of night”

With that, she proved that even Beauty queens can be allured in with the magic of Dota 2.

The announcer pack has always been one of Dota 2’s best features with many memorable, iconic, mainstream crossovers like the Rick and Morty announcer pack and the GabeN announcer pack.

But perhaps Valve has let the biggest opportunity of them all pass by, right underneath their noses. Fans petitioned for the voice of Snoop Lion (aka Snoop Dogg) to make its way into the Dota 2 client. The petition got to about 12,000 supporters before it came to a close. Enough to make Snoop Dogg himself show up on the Dota 2 subreddit and post this.

However, Valve still hasn’t collaborated with Snoop Dogg. Perhaps they’re saving collaboration for something truly commemorative, perhaps for the International 10 Battlepass.

One of the biggest and most popular Electronic Music Producers/DJ’s out there, the 6-time Grammy nominated, Deadmau5 is an avid fan of Dota 2.

While he might not have streamed the game on Twitch, he has made a Music pack for the game and has performed multiple times at The International showcasing his love for the game.

Okay, stop scratching your heads. While JJ Lin might not be a popular figure in the West, he is one of the biggest pop-stars in the East. With over 3.6 Million Instagram Followers and over 50 Million Followers on Weibo, he is one of the biggest celebrities to ever play Dota 2.

He has shown his love for the game in multiple ways. He has his very own music pack in Dota 2: Dota2 Timekeeper’s Music Pack and paid homage to the game through in a track titled Demo BKB. The star also revealed that he has played alongside Chinese Dota 2 Superstars like Ferrari_430.

But his biggest contribution to the world of Dota 2 is by performing live at the Shanghai Major, where he put up one hell of a musical performance. However, his passion for the game was never more exemplified than when he was spotted playing Dota 2 in a LAN cafe after half of Singapore’s internet went down.

The biggest and most influential sporting personality who is involved in Dota 2 is Jeremy Lin. The man is already an icon in USA and China thanks to his spectacular Linsanity performances and is actively involved in Dota 2.

While he currently owns and operates J. Storm, he used to be one of the biggest perpetrators of Dota 2 to casual fans making appearances at the International 5 panel, the Free 2 Play documentary, even at the Summit and has actively advocated for esports in mainstream media. Dota 2 celebrities

While League of Legends has many mega-athletes like Shaq O’Neal backing it, Dota 2’s biggest supporter in the Pro-Athletes scene is likely Jeremy Lin.

Given that Asa Butterfield played a tactically-brilliant mastermind who controls the Battlefield in Ender’s Game, having Dota 2 as his favourite game is not surprising. Asa Butterfield is best known for his leading role in ‘The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,’ ‘Hugo’, ‘Ender’s Game,’ and more recently Netflix’s comedy series ‘Sex Education’ is an avid Dota 2 fan.

In a Reddit AMA, he said that Dota 2 is one of the games he plays regularly after finding out about it a few months after filming Ender’s Game. “I’ve spent many hours playing it, but it was time well spent,” he said.

He has also attended multiple ESL One tournaments and was unable to hide his excitement when ESL One Birmingham 2018 was announced, prompting a response from fellow British star, Maisie Williams.

He also has a steam group where he plays Dota 2 with the members.
