Force Staff.

Analyzing 7.07 Top Tier M >By eggs on Dec 12, 2017 20:21 UTC

Gone are the days when the mid lane was the target of first round picks and bans. Today, it’s the Omniknights, Nighstalkers, and Banes who terrorize games, rather than Razor—the most contested mid hero of both the MDL Minor and DreamHack Major. With patch 7.07, which increased the XP of lane creeps and decreased the amount of XP a denied creep grants the enemy, the midlane matchup is still a volatile area that can affect the flow of a game. With Dreamleague and MDL Macau Minor finished, we can take a look at some of the top performing midlane heroes of both the pro and pub meta. Dota 2 song remix kaloka

Shadow Fiend

Shadow Fiend was 2 for 2 in Dreamleague, but he surfaced by the time MDL Minor rolled around, particularly due to two legendary Shadow Fiend players in the tournament: Dendi and Resolut1on. Shadow Fiend is Dota’s classic mid hero, whose mastery depends on optimizing Dota’s various quirks: last hitting and denying, lane equilibrium, rune control, creep stacking. It’s no surprise it was the first hero targeted for the Open AI bot.

During the MDL Minor, Shadow Fiend won 8 out of 9 (88.9%) and was the second most contested mid hero. Shadow Fiend is a hero who can extract the most out of the new XP changes in creeps. After a few waves, his right click damage becomes too high to contest for last hits. There are only few heroes who can matchup with him one on one, and without it, the team is pressured to make a move before he gets out of control.

Medusa

Medusa received multiple buffs in 7.07, including an essential rework to Split Shot. The skill is now less clunky to use, and her level 25 talent, allowing Split Shot to apply attack modifiers, turns her into a turret that can apply Skadi’s slow or Daedalus’ Crit on every target. Medusa was the most contested mid hero at the DreamHack Major and the 2nd most at the MDL Minor. Although already a durable hero, couple her with Omniknight’s Repel—an even more difficult spell to counter with Diffusal Blade gone—and she’s near invulnerable in the late game.

Razor

Razor was the 2nd most contested mid hero in DreamLeague. The hero often gets a spike when it comes to LANs, regardless of the meta. Dota 2 song remix kaloka He’s strong in the lane and has a way to push towers in the mid to late game. Because of his stability, he’s often favored when the stakes are high, against the wishes of fans who see the hero as boring to watch. Razor doesn’t gank and doesn’t dominate the lane in the showy way Shadow Fiend does..

It’s a testament to the strength of the hero, especially in lane and to take objectives, that he’s relevant in nearly every meta. Dota 2 song remix kaloka It also helps that Static Link can severely hamstring Medusa’s attack power in a team fight, even throughout the duration of Stone Gaze.

Dragon Knight

Na’Vi loses 5 heroes in an extended fight that begins with missing a kill on Sumail’s DK

The removal of bottle crowing limited the pool of mid heroes—in spite of the bottle-TP trick—but Dragon Knight still thrives. He’s an imminent threat to the T1 mid tower as soon as he’s level 6. Like Razor, Dragon Knight is a stable pick who also can push towers, both early and late game. Before Refresher Shard, the Aegis functioned in nearly the same way for teams trying to push high ground. Aegis on DK meant chip damage on the high ground tower, only for as long as his ultimate Dragon Form was up.

In a meta where we can often see two roamers, Dragon Knight is incredibly durable and tough to gank. He’s one of the few mid heroes not hamstrung by the absence of Poor Man’s Shield, which became a crutch that made multiple mid heroes viable. Patch 7.07 not only buffed Dragon Blood’s regen across all levels, it also boosted Dragon Knight’s base regen, from 0 to 1.5.

Zeus is the pub king. He has the highest win rate across all heroes in pub games, at a sky high 56%, and within the Very High skill bracket, he’s the top performing mid hero. Zeus is an exclusive pub stomper, as he is rarely used in competitive play. He can be severely disadvantaged in an uneven matchup or against capable enemy roamers, but he thrives in pubs where games tend to be more passive, giving him room to breathe in the early game or come back later on. Zeus won’t be getting any denies, but he can still make do last hitting long distance with Arc Lightning. There’s a reason he’s been historically at the top of the win rate charts and our tier lists. He’s able to get just enough farm to deals an immense amount of damage.

Back To Basics

For pubs, the fact that everyone starts with a TP scroll now makes ganking less successful, since there are no excuses for a non-rotation from a support. With patch 7.07 reworking the creep lane and removing bottle crewing, it has shifted Dota’s pool of midlane heroes back to its roots—heroes that can sustain in the lane, farm safely, and take objectives.

Why is Dendi such a bad player now? His team is never winning and he is playing really bad for his team. What happened to him?

His team changed not his fault

dendi just too old already. he should retire by now and be a hosts/ caster or if still want continue to play, he should change his role to hard support. he’s not at the age of moving finger faster anymore.

He’s 26 years old so . yeah, obviously his hands are too crippled by arthritis to push a key on a keyboard.

We should get Dendi to see this thread so he can get some tips from all the professional players on the Steam forums!

Dendi

Danil “Dendi” Ishutin (born December 30, 1989) is a Ukrainian professional Dota 2 and former DotA player. Well known for his solo mid skills, he is regarded as one of the most creative players in the scene today, and is renowned for his unorthodox play style and unconventional skill and item builds. Biography [ edit ]

Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Dendi got an early start with competitive gaming in net cafes when his elder brother married, moved out and took the family’s PC with him. Dabbling with Counter-Strike first, he soon found Warcraft 3 where he played in local tournaments and built a love for the competition and a thirst to be the best. Though he was quite successful in Warcraft 3 and even won a few local championships in Lviv, he knew he had found his calling when he stumbled upon DotA. He picked up the game quickly and played it almost exclusively over the next few months.

Beginning with learning only supports, he practiced heavily and was quickly vouched to the IHCS1 league and soon created his own team for tournaments in Lviv. After he led his team to a championship in Kiev, he was drafted by a team called “Wolker. Gaming” and began his professional career at 17.

DotA [ edit ]

Dendi started playing professionally with WG in 2006. [1] He was a part of the Ukrainian squad that finished third in MYM Prime Nations the same year. Only a few months later WG made it to the grand final of one of the most prestigious tournaments at the time; MYM Prime Defending. [2] When Kingsurf. international merged with WG the next year he became a full-time member of Ks. int. [1] In late 2008 he joined DTS, only to return to Ks. int in March 2009. [3] Three months later though, Dendi returned to DTS. [4] The team would end up finishing 2nd at ESWC 2010. At the end of 2010, Dendi and DTS finished 3rd at the prestigious WDC 2010. [5] Dendi joined Natus Vincere at the end of 2010. [6]

Dota 2 [ edit ]

Dendi started his Dota 2 career with Na’Vi, who quickly established themselves as one of the best teams in the world by winning The International 2011. Na’Vi continued to dominate and won many tournaments in the years 2011, 2012 and 2013. Dendi was the center of Na’Vi’s consistent stable and skilled rosters, with his performance greatly contributing to their success.

The Natus Vincere Dota 2 team achieved significant success with Dendi as their midlaner during the first few years of the game; they finished as the runners-up for both The International 2012 and The International 2013, losing out to Invictus Gaming and Alliance, respectively. 2013 would mark the last year of Na’Vi and Dendi’s dominance in the Dota 2 scene, as they only recorded two LAN victories since January 2014. The International 2014 saw Na’Vi and Dendi finishing the tournament outside of the top 2 for the first time and the following two Internationals, TI 5 and TI 6, they would finish in last place. The results would deteriorate further, as they would fail to even qualify for The International 2017, they failed to advance out of the group stage of the regional qualifiers. This marked the first year of The International tournaments without Dendi attending as a player. The 2017/18 season started of promising for Dendi and Na’Vi, who dominated the CIS scene in the early months, crowning their improving results with their second LAN victory since 2014. However, the second half of the season saw the roster break apart and finally the team would fail to even reach the regional qualifiers for The International 2018, after losing in the open qualifier.

Four years of roster instability and poor results finally took their toll on the reputation of the Na’Vi organization and on Dendi’s status as a legendary player and a top tier midlaner. After 8 years playing mid on Na’Vi, Dendi was finally removed from the active roster in September 2018. However, Dendi vowed to continue playing professionally. After a brief stint on Tigers, Dendi joined The Pango.

Dota 2 reporter season 3 ep 42 the crafting

Valve Introduces Seasonal MMR

Among the many new incentives that the Battle Pass offers, recalibrating your MMR has been a feature long requested. You can now play in “The International Ranked Queue” against other Battle Pass owners, and at the end of the season, you can keep your Season MMR or your old, Ranked MMR. This new feature is a step in the right direction, addressing some of the concerns the community has had about Dota’s MMR system.

Reliability of MMR

There are a few issues with matchmaking ratings, which are common across all games with ELO based systems. First, your rating is a only an estimation of your true strength, so there is a measure of uncertainty, or standard deviation. You can be a player who can rise and dip over 1000 MMR, or one that hovers around the same bracket over the same time period.

There have been some theories that the new, calibrated MMR uses your hidden, unranked MMR as a starting point. Some players with losing records, in their 10 calibration matches, have ended up with a higher MMR than their former ranked MMR. The other theory is that there could be a third, hidden MMR that calibrates off both your unranked and ranked matches. Either way, your new, calibrated MMR isn’t going to be from 0 to 100 (does winning 10 games get you 9000 MMR?), but from a starting point, based on your history, to create a reliable and accurate measurement.

The second difficulty with MMR, which is unique to Dota and other team based games, is the deviation between teammates and opponents. This is why you may get more or less than the standard +25 for winning against different teams. There’s the deviation between the overall MMR between opposing teams. Then, there is the deviation between teammates. Even if both team’s MMR average is the same, there can be a high, MMR player that can shift the predictability of the game.

It’s Over 9000

Finally, your rating is less reliable if you haven’t played after some time. In Dota, the meta changes, your understanding can fall behind, and then it may take more time to recover your muscle memory. Dota players can get “out of shape” as much as any other sport. That 3k MMR rating you had was a measurement of how you played at that time. Three months later, that may no longer be an accurate measurement, especially with how quickly Dota’s landscape shifts over time.

“If you’ve always been the same MMR, you’re actually getting worse.”

This time factor is central to understanding Dota’s new MMR system. Without any sort of decay, MMR is rising over time. It’s not a zero sum system, in that for every +25 MMR gained there is also -25 MMR. It’s because there’s always people coming and going. MMR is being poured into the system. That’s what we talk about when we talk about inflation. People need salary raises to keep up with the cost of living. And in Dota, if you’ve always been the same MMR, you’re actually getting worse.

It’s why climbing the ladder is referred to as a grind. It’s as much about being good as being relentless, playing game after game. Today’s 9k MMR was last year’s 8K MMR. How some games have approached this issue was to have seasons, where everyone starts off with a new slate after a period of time. In Hearthstone, the ladder is reset every month. Starcraft 2 roughly every three months. Now, Valve has entered into the same territory with their “The International Ranked Queue”. It’s a low risk experiment, allowing players to recalibrate their MMR, for a period of time, and opting to keep their new rating or their old one at the end of the season.

The Permanence of MMR

Aside from the complexities of how MMR systems work, what matters is how the community reacts and feels about it. Dota’s ranking system has been the same ever since its release. There are no seasonal resets or MMR decay. Your MMR is permanent. It’s hidden, but still a mark that indiscriminately measures your progress. This permanence amplifies the ladder anxiety we feel when we play another game, another hour long investment that ends in plus or minus 25 MMR.

Anxiety can be a normal, stress reaction to everyday situations, but in Dota, each game becomes part of your MMR’s history, your match history, and it’s something you carry with you from game to game. It’s no surprise that feelings of dread, fear, and frustration can compound. The only recourse for feeling progress is to either get better, grind, or create a smurf (an issue that Valve has recently addressed with CS:GO’s “Prime Matchmaking”). The ranking you had years ago is the same one that you’ve always been working on. Hence, cue the frustrations of players who fail to make any progress, because they’ve been attached to the same MMR ever since they started playing Dota. Dota 2 reporter season 3 ep 42 the crafting

The Seasonal MMR is also a soft-reset, as it hasn’t calibrated anyone over 5k MMR. That includes professionals, who will begin their climb again within the ranks of the plebeians. Valve continues to experiment with ranked matchmaking as a whole. First, with it’s temporary exclusion of All Picked, then the mode’s reintroduction with a ban phase. If their focus is on the ranked experience, then having seasons is a welcome addition.

Seasonal, ranked play is important for a game that already is measured in seasons. Dota’s calendar is divided into four parts: three Majors and The International. Each phase is marked by a major patch change. It keeps the game fresh, while Dota’s MMR system has been stagnantly behind. Even if your next Season MMR settles into the same MMR you’ve always had, at least it was something new to work on. That would be a change.

Top 10 Dota 2 Carry Heroes in 2018

With Valve just recently releasing its Dota 2 Update 7.18, a number of changes made their way into the making. This includes everything from hero/item alternations to a complete change of the game’s Meta. Dota 2 best hero for public This means everything we know about the game has changed in some way or the other. so, to better educate our readers of the current Carry heroes of the Meta, we are here with a list of the 10 best Dota 2 Carry Heroes of 2018.

Dota 2 Carry Heroes

The Meta for Dota 2 has changed and we are already seeing some new faces making their mark in the current Meta. Dota 2 best hero for public However, with Icefrog’s effort to balance the game, he made various changes that completely nerfed some of the most picked heroes while bringing up some that we weren’t used to in a very long time. So, without taking any more of your time, here are the 10 best Carry Heroes in the year 2018.

1. Ursa

Ursa is one of the most popular choices for the role of Carry in the current Dota 2 Meta. Dota 2 best hero for public This is due to the recent love the developers have shown to the agility based hero. This combined with his extremely powerful, yet tanky abilities make him a true beast in the game.

2. Spectre

Spectre has been a hero which was a consistent pick even before patch 7.19. Though, after the update tides favored Spectre even more. Her desolate has been buffed up giving Spectre more ease in farming, as well as her updated Dispersion, has given her enhanced tankability during team fights.

3. Terrorblade

Terrorblade finally got his place back in competitive Dota 2 with the recent patches. Immediately after, we saw teams picking up the split push carry to their advantage. Terrorblade’s farming, mobility build that professional players tend to make on this hero has allowed him to fit in many situations.

4. Anti-Mage

Well, one cannot just ignore Magina from the competitive scene no matter what. Anti Mage has been a life saver for many professional teams who consider this hero their last resort in times of need. No matter the changes to the Meta, you will still see Anti Mage being picked up by professional teams every no own then.

5. Phantom Lancer

The place of both Phantom Lancer and Anti-Mage is relatively the same. Phantom lancer slightly wins during the current Meta because of his farming abilities as well as his input from early game. Though professional players tend to favor the hero more for split pushing it certainly doesn’t mean Phantom lancer isn’t good in team fights.

6. Gyrocopter

Though there were slight nerfs to the hero, Gyrocopter still remains a solid pick in the competitive scene. The AOE damage burst and lock down abilities of Gyrocopter make him a favorable pick in many matches. Plus, his incredible ability to quickly finish off lanes, and heroes make him a true contender in the fight for the best Dota 2 Carry.

7. Ember Spirit

A hero that is favored in both mid and carry role, Ember Spirit’s snowball mechanics are so good that no team wants to let go it to others. Ember Spirit is a greatly contested hero in professional matches who will either be picked or get banned in the drafting stage. Almost every team is good with Ember Spirit on their side and therefore the hero is expected to be heavily contested in the future as well.

8. Alchemist

Ever since the update, Alchemist has been revived from the dead. The new build on Alchemist is working wonders in the professional scene and the hero is getting contested more than ever. VG’s Super is trying to get his hands on the hero whenever possible. Alchemist is definitely going to be one of those heroes you will be seeing at The International 2018.

9. Shadow Fiend

Shadow Fiend is among those heroes that have great potential to come back from gold deficit really really fast. Even if Shadow Fiend does not have a good lane stage with a little bit of support and creep stacks Shadow Fiend can be up and running in no time. Being able to take both mid and carry positions the hero has become a necessity in the current Meta. Dota 2 best hero for public

10. Faceless Void

Faceless Void has been one of the most consistent picks in Dota 2. However, this agility based character receiving some serious nerfs in the past, the pro scene Meta kicked him out. Well, with patch 7.19, things are looking good for Faceless as more and more players are looking to add him into their drafts. it is because of this newfound love, we thing Faceless Void is going to wreck havoc in the upcoming The International 2018 tournament.

That is it for now, but stay tuned as we going to be bringing you more guides likes this in the coming days. So while you wait for that too happen, comment below and let us know what you think of the guide above. Dota 2 vs. League of Legends: Updating the numbers

League of Legends just hit monthly user milestone, Dota 2 just hosted one of the most successful tournaments of all time, but how do the numbers compare in 2016? The world’s top two MOBA, sharing one of the biggest markets, are often compared neck and neck by not only what type of players frequent each game, but how many players are actively playing.

In 2014, eSports enthusiast Zoe Hawkins compared the two by numbers, and today I’d like to give an update to see just how far we’ve come in two years. I’ll follow a similar structure as I feel the original post encompasses the important aspects.

Number of players

On September 13th, Riot co-owners Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck told Polygon that they’d estimate League’s active monthly player base at around 100 million. While they haven’t released a statement regarding the peak concurrent users, there is a rough 33% increase annually, which means that number should sit around 13-14 million peak concurrent players. Don’t take the number to heart as it’s just my maths, and not official.

Dota 2 is slightly easier to track with Steam Charts offering an updated number of players frequently. August 2016, after the International, Dota 2 saw an average of 635,795, with Peak players at 1,117,519. The number is still surprisingly lower than League of Legends, even though their number has not been officially released yet. According to Dota 2’s official Blog, the unique players in the last month is currently over 13 million, which is a significant increase since the last time we talked numbers. If my maths is correct, that’s on average 87 million less than League of Legends.

The most surprising deduction from the above figures is that even though League of Legends is not strictly free-to-play (in-game purchases, heroes, skins, etc), they still outmatch Dota 2 on a monthly basis.

Prize Money

League of Legends offers a unique monetary system for players and organizations involved in the LCS. The LCS is the League Championship Series, which involves a circuit of professional tournaments paying out at each competition. The players who are part of the LCS also receive a salary, so this comparison is tough one to make. In 2015 the LCS World Championships had a prize pool of $2.13 million, while the crowd funded Dota 2 International 2015 prize pool sat at $18.4 million.

In latest 2015 Valve instated the Majors which paid out $3 million each (there were three). The International 2016, which ended in August, had a whopping $20.7 million prize pool, which is the highest prize pool for any eSports, to date.

The overall numbers speak for themselves, as well as the highest earning eSports players are mostly Dota 2, according to eSports Earnings, who make up the top 55 players in the World. While it seems Dota 2 is winning by a mile, we cannot forget that League of Legends has a very unique system comparable to conventional sports and it’s hard to gauge which title offers the bigger prizes. However, in terms of tournament winnings, Dota 2 takes this one.

Viewership

The most recent data showcasing League viewership came from the 2015 LCS World Championship where League boasted an all-time recording breaking viewership. Below is an extraction from their official statement on 2015 Viewership:

Total cumulative daily unique impressions (the amount of unique viewers that tuned in every day via online and television channels) reached 334 million over the four weeks (from 288 million in 2014). In fact, over the course of all 73 games, we saw an average concurrent viewership (ACU) of over 4.2 million, with the average fan watching for well over an hour per viewing session.

And for the Grand Final:

For the final between SKT and Koo Tigers in Berlin’s Mercedes-Benz Arena, peak concurrent viewership (PCU – the highest number of fans tuned in at any one point) was 14 million – up from 11 million in 2014. Overall, the unique viewer count for the Final was 36 million – a record-breaking high for any esports event and a climb from last year’s Samsung White-Royal Club matchup at Sangam Stadium which drew 27 million unique viewers.

Dota 2’s 2015 International brought in roughly 20 million viewers, after their partnership with ESPN for TI5. This number is still considerably low when comparing League’s performance in 2015, but with a larger player base comes larger viewers.

While we would have to wait for the 2016 World Championships (starting next month) to compare it directly to the International 2016, we can compare their numbers to the above shown information. Valve have not released the exact numbers for the 2016 Dota 2 International, but Dota 2 did top the Twitch. tv charts in August with over 33.2 million hours watched. The one number released was for the opening match of the International which brought in 1.1 million viewers.

Rising Competition

If we take a look at the two titles, operating in the same genre, there isn’t any real competition. Smite (the last comapred title) has fallen off considerably, and the only title which now somewhat comes close is Overwatch which has seen considerable growth over the past few months. Overwatch, however, is still in its infancy, and while the numbers are growing, they are still miles away from. For the Atlantic Showdown which took place at Gamescom, Overwatch pulled in 75,000 concurrent viewers. The ELEAGUE Overwatch Open kicks off next month, and again this will truly gauge whether this eSport can compete.

So, from the above numbers it seems League of Legends is still the dominant MOBA, with Dota 2 forever trailing. However, we’d like you fight it out in the comments.
