The Reach beta has concluded and the team is now working hard towards the Season 1 launch. Here we share some of the details on the upcoming Season, and what players can expect when they log in to play.

The new patch is wild, with all the positive and maybe some negative connotations this word implies. As such, we are trying to be extremely cautious when discussing it so that we don’t unnecessarily invoke some misguided disenchantment from the community.

62 new items are available for finding, not purchasing. You can now build your inventory through jungling and not spending your gold. Is this good? Bad? Who knows, it’s too early to tell.

The Reach Beta has been a valuable month for us at Elo. The feedback from our community has allowed us to make considerable progress in refining the key automated systems of the platform and we couldn’t possibly be more excited to see people begin to play in Season One.

This is going to be less of a stats recap and more of a farewell to a patch, which overstayed its welcome for at least a couple of months. Instead of going over the same heroes once more, we felt it is more appropriate to highlight some of the heroes which were outside of the meta at the tournament’s start, but nevertheless had a great impact in the later stages of MDL Chengdu.

Bounty runes, come back gold, ancient creeps, camps stacking, and more. The economy of Dota keeps growing and growing but how does that affect supports and cores?

We’ve done a lot of testing with our current systems in the Reach league and are finally confident in opening it up to more users. Divine level players may now participate in Reach, effective immediately.

The first major tournament of the season is finally happening. Get up to date with all the teams participating, their odds of winning it all, and more!

Patch 7.22 is certainly overstaying its welcome and it clearly shows in the current professional tournaments. There are almost no new meta developments and for the most part the Summit 11 concentrated on the same exact heroes as the tournaments prior.

Captains and drafters are some of the most revered pros in the scene. The genius drafting strategies and counter picks can win the game before the first bounty runes spawn. Here are some draft ideas to try out for your next battle cup tournament.

Reach had an exciting and informative first week of games, with over 1000 matches played, and over 1200 unique players participating. Here’s the rundown on week 1, and what’s coming down the pipeline.

The idea of a tanky frontline hero in the offlane has been repeated over and over again for the last several months. It makes sense on the professional scene, while working incredibly well in pubs. Building survivability items and allowing yourself to be initiated on has become the go to strategy for a lot of teams and it is unlikely to change until after the new patch is released.

MMR may just be a number but a higher number is superior. Read this article to learn a few tips and tricks on growing your MMR number.

The current meta has been established for a long time but teams still must find their slight edge. At ESL One Hamburg 2019, we saw more of what we’ve been seeing for a few months now.

Feedback has been tremendous and consistent through the first two days of Reach play. We’ve heard the feedback, and we’re working on fixes. We’ll continue to communicate as we develop the platform, and continue iterate based on that feedback up to and through the launch of Season 1.

Dota 2 Workshop – Item FAQ

Is there a main resource web page for the Dota 2 Item Workshop?

  • Yes. The Dota 2 Item Workshop Guidelines Homepage is the starting place for item workshop resources.

Do I need a special Steam account to submit items to the Dota Workshop?

  • You need to follow certain procedures to set up a Steam account and submit bank and tax information before you can add items to the Dota Workshop. Please see Account Preparation for Workshop Submissions for details.

What are the steps to making and submitting a Dota 2 Workshop item?

  • Concept: Come up with an idea. Dota 2 test workshop items in game
  • Reference: Go to the Hero Requirements page to find model and texture budgets and reference files for hero items.
  • Author your items. See links on the Workshop Guidelines home page and the Tutorial and Software links on this page for more information about the following creation processes:
    • Model: Using a 3D modeling program, create the model for the item, weighting the mesh to a Valve reference file where applicable.
    • UVs: Unwrap the 3D model so you can texture map it.
    • Texture: Using your UVs as a guide, paint the surface of your item.
    • Shaders: Adjust the properties of your materials.
    • Animation: Needed for NPCs such as couriers that have a custom skeleton.
  • Install the Dota 2 Item Workshop tools
  • Test and submit your items
    • Use the Dota 2 Item Workshop Item Tools to compile and test your items in game.
    • Upload your items to Steam’s Dota 2 Item Workshop and spread the word to the Dota community.

How does the item publishing process work?

  • After you submit your item to Steam’s Dota 2 Item Workshop, t he Dota community will see it displayed as a new submission and will provide feedback and votes for your item.
  • Interesting items are selected by Valve’s Dota Economy team for review based on quality, creative and technical fit with Dota and community reaction.
  • Valve artists and the economy team review items in game, looking at technical and artistic execution, gameplay readability, and comparing them to other custom and default items.
  • If there’s interest in shipping your items we may request that you make revisions.
  • If the revisions are approved, we prepare the items for our pipeline and integrate them into pre-shipping builds of Dota 2.
  • We test your items in game through internal playtests.
  • We release the items on the Dota 2 store and share the revenue from the store sales with you.

How do I submit a Dota Team or Player Branded item, a Dota League ticket, or a Dota Game Mod?

  • Team, Player, and Caster Branded Items
  • Dota 2 League Tickets – read the League instructions first, then submit tickets as Contract Only through the Item Workshop.
  • Dota 2 Game Mods

What are some guidelines for matching the Dota 2 art style?

  • Please be aware that “matching the Dota 2 art style” does not mean strictly following the coloring and silhouettes of Dota 2’s default hero items. Dota 2’s art style follows very important general design concepts that apply to the readability and quality execution of all items, including inventive items that thoughtfully differ from the defaults and add to the appeal of our game. These principles are covered in the Character Art Guide and other Asset Creation Guidelines that have been updated and expanded for Source 2.

What should always be avoided when creating items for Dota 2?

  • Obscenity: We will automatically reject any obscene items.
  • Copyright infringement: Even if you made a model yourself, if you used an existing likeness without the owner’s permission, it’s copyright infringement. Unauthorized images, audio or models from other commercial properties, from other people’s Steam workshop submissions, from artist’s galleries on the Internet or from any other sources covered by copyright cannot be used in Dota 2.

Where can I find good tutorials to learn 3D modeling?

  • There are a lot of digital art communities online with great information:
  • Search for ‘speed modeling’ or tutorials using your specific modeling or animation software on YouTube.
  • Several Dota workshop artists have created item authoring guides on the Steam Community. If you’re impressed by the items of a workshop artist, click on the artist’s link under “Created By” on the item’s workshop web page. This will take you to the Steam Community page for the artist. They’ll have listings in the column on the right under “Guides” if they have created community guides. See if they have created any guides for authoring items. Some instructions and images may refer to Source 1 procedures but they could still be very helpful.
  • Look at our list of Service Providers to find toolmakers, organizations and users who provide tutorials and other assistance to workshop artists. If any of these service providers have been helpful enough that you’d like to show your appreciation, when you submit your item to the workshop you’ll have the option to give them a percentage of Valve’s revenue if the item is sold on the Dota store.
  • Go to Steam Community Dota Guides and use the “Filter” drop-down list to find guides tagged with “Workshop”, “Weapon”, “Modding and Configuration” or “Character”.
  • Visit the Valve Developer Community Modeling Category – most of this information is only applicable to Source 1 or other games, but it still covers general modeling concepts that are helpful.

The Ultimate DOTA 2 Gu > 29 Dec , 2016

DOTA 2 is one of the biggest MOBA games available on PC, with online tournaments to massive live-championships and big prize pools to be won.

DOTA 2 is complex. Gamers who are new or looking to step up their game in DOTA 2 will need to learn as much as possible to win big.

And here’s how you can do it.

The Journey to Going Pro in DOTA 2

You’ll take away plenty from this guide if you’re aspiring to go pro in DOTA 2, or simply want to improve your skills.

Don’t Rush The Game

In any kind of MOBA game, you never want to rush.

Rushing to push, gank, kill, and do everything else is only going to bring down your team in the long run.

It’s a good idea to farm. Farming will help you build XP and Gold while being able to buy better upgrades, in turn letting you take over the opposing team’s base. Play the long game!

Don’t Cheap Out At The Beginning

Almost every MOBA player will tell you it’s a good idea to buy the basic items at the beginning: potions, boots, and daggers are good places to start.

The boots and daggers will give your hero the main boost in ATK and Speed at the beginning, allowing you to farm much easier.

Master Your Hero

No one becomes a pro without having master their main (hero). You know you’re playing with or against experienced players if they use the same main in every game.

For new players: if you want to master a hero or figure out your play style, then it may be a good idea to play with the same hero for four weeks. You don’t want to miss out on the best character for your style without exploring a bit.

This gives you the chance to get comfortable with your hero’s role, often one of these:

While you’re trying to master your hero, you’ll also get used to the gameplay mechanics and what you need to work on to achieve more wins.

The best way to master your hero is to play with the same hero for three to four days.

This gives you the chance to get comfortable with your chosen hero and decide if their gameplay style is for you: rush, gank or tank.

Watch How the Pros Play

Watch. Observe. Reflect.

See how your favorite pros play in DOTA 2 matches. Taking the best parts of their strategies could boost your game pretty fast, and maybe even put you on the list of DOTA 2 champions over time.

Most DOTA 2 pros will offer advice and explanations on why they do certain things. Hit them up on Twitter or a Reddit AMA!

Look at the Mini-Map

The mini-map will help you respond quickly to what’s going on near you rather than the close-up view you have on your hero.

You’ll also be able to scope out the situation when your opponents are far away—they won’t always be in plain sight, so take the opportunity to set up some traps.

Practice Makes Perfect

It’s true that “practice makes perfect.” Make time for the game, and think critically about what you want to achieve in specific games. Check out this subreddit thread on practicing in DOTA 2. You can find a lot of useful tips from players who have done this before.

Awesome Play On Your A-Game

Make your decisions confidently. This is the key to practicing as a DOTA 2 player because your actions are building blocks for a larger strategy. Some missteps aren’t going to make or break anything.

Confidence allows you to think straight and make logical sense of all of your gameplay decisions. And confidence comes from practice and experience, one match at a time.

Observe Everything

In DOTA 2 there are a lot of things going on at once. It takes real strategy to observe everything but the more you start observing, the better you’ll get.

Stay on top of everything that’s going on in your practice sessions, and don’t develop tunnel vision. Keeping an ear to the ground is the key winning! Watch for:

  • the environment
  • teammates’ actions
  • opponent’s actions
  • traps

When you’re beginning to observe everything, it becomes quite clear where your hero should be, where you should be setting up traps, and the best places to farm at the beginning of your game.

Every time you practice observation, you begin to act quicker.

You’re on your way to becoming a pro in DOTA 2.

Check back here for more pro tips and tricks you need to play like a pro.

DOTA2 Console Commands

Introduction

Hello I am Loveless and today, we will be learning how to open up the DOTA2 Console and edit settings in the game that are not select-able in the normal Game Options. None of these are cheats, just useful alterations that only affect the user. It’s not too technical, but do make sure you don’t go crazy with it.

Anyways, lets go ahead and get started.

Commands

To start off, in your Steam Library, find Dota 2 and right click -> Properties. Find SET LAUNCH OPTIONS under General and type in – console. Now hit OK -> OK and run Dota 2, when it is finished loading, you will see a big chat box looking thing.

This, is the console, there is one in just about every computer game that is worth a ****. It allows you to tell the game what to do, when you want it done. Now of course, it would normally be a huge thing for cheating, but luckily Dota 2, like many other multi-player games, are server-based which means people cannot edit the game during online play. However, anything that is client-side, which means things that only affect you and nobody else.

Here is a list of currently known codes and their use:

dota_force_right_click_attack #

Disabled is 0(default), Enabled is 1. Denying creeps no longer requires you to force attack, it now only requires a right click.

dota_minimap_hero_size ###

Default is 600. Sets the size of heroes on the minimap. Getting annoyed because they are too big? Set it to something else.

dota_disable_range_finder #

Enabled is 1(default), Disabled is 0. When this is enabled, it will show the range of your abilities as if you were hovering over the skill, but instead when you are preparing to cast it. For blinking abilities, it draws a line from your hero to the mouse (this line does not stop, still handy for 100% accuracy).

dota_use_player_color #

Enabled is 1(default), Disabled is 0. By disabling this, players will use their team color instead. A lot of players have been asking for this.

dota_health_per_vertical_marker ###

Default is 200. This will tell the game where you want those black tallies in a health bar, useful for players who would prefer them at different intervals.

tv_nochat #

Default is 0, Enabled is 1. This turns off Spectator chat.

con_enable #

Default is 0, Enabled is 1. Makes it so when you close the console, you can still open it up without restarting by hitting your ` (grave/tilde) key again.

chat_join ____

Type in whatever chat channel you want to join/create.

dota_camera_lock #

Default is 0, Enabled is 1. This will make your camera follow around your hero.

Note that I did not add all the ones I found, because most are already accessible through the game options and people are still asking for them. Just go look for once.

To close the console, simply hit your ` key (grave/tilde).

Outroduction

And that’s it! Not too hard now was it? If your friends ask how you did it, just send them on over to DOTAFire and have them read the guide themselves! . Maybe even stay a while? 😉

If you have any guides you would like me to make, please feel free to PM me or post in this guide’s comment section to discuss it with fellow DOTAFire members.

ACap – workshop.

Hello everybody.
I worked a bit with dota 2 workshop and created few sets.
I gained a lot of feedback from the community and now trying to use that in my new sets.
One of the major issue is – my sets do not fit heroes.
Another issue – my sets are fitting perfectly, but have no idea included.
I want to ask mighty Valve if there any possibility to give greenlight for some of my items. If not – I will remake, recolor, etc.
I will be glad if you would give some feedback to my work. If you have time, of course.
It is a great learning experience anyway and I want to Thank you for opportunity to work with dota 2 content.
Thank you.

-lion is in beta now. Some people found it too bright and sunny) Also not happy with shoulders. Will rework later.

some very nice stuff you’ve got here

This isn’t the place for advertisements.

Your designs are a bit too cluttered. You’ve got too much line detail going on, like your Rhasta, Sand King and Riki sets. Get rid of all of that nd it will look much better in-game.

That Leshrac set is pretty awesome.

Thank you, guys.
Monsterlord – I know it is not a place for advertisements, but where else can I ask Valve directly what they think. I got no feedback. I do not agree about detail level in the sand king set, I think it is just ok. May be other have too much. Anyway this work turned into great skill train and I will make some more later.
For now it is lone druid, and I think I will make a break for a while.
That was the most time consuming set.

You won’t get it here neither. Valve employees are busy, you know, working at Valve. Imagine if they were giving feedback to every single item was uploaded on workshop, they would’nt have time for their paid job. If you want to get feedback from Valve, upload your items on workshop, if they’ll be interested, they’ll contact with you.

You can ask for feedback on Polycount or Facepunch, I think that’s more than enough. But this forum is mostly dedicated to tracking bugs and making suggestions how to improve the game. Definitely not for advertisements.

And anyway, you’re getting the same feedback about amount of details everywhere and saying that’s ok, what’s the point?

You know what suggestion mean?

Of course I know. As I know you know Russian here is a clue for you.
suggestion [sə’ʤesʧ(ə)n] 1) предложение, совет to ask / call for / invite suggestions — попросить совета
And English one.
suggestion [sə(g)’jeschən] sug·ges·tion an idea or plan put forward for consideration
■ the action of doing this at my suggestion, the museum held an exhibition of his work
■ something that implies or indicates a certain fact or situation there is no suggestion that he was involved in any wrongdoing
■ a slight trace or indication of something there was a suggestion of a smile on his lips
■ the action or process of calling up an idea or thought in someone’s mind by associating it with other things
This word has broad use and I do not feel I am posting in the wrong thread. Also, as far as I did not uploaded this art to the workshop – it is only suggestion.

I am not using wireless connection. I did however get myself a new modem about a month ago but this wasn’t a problem until maybe one week/ten days ago.

When your ping in 1000, if you alt tab and try to check a website does it load or take a long time to display?

I have this issue when playing on my university internet. I suddenly get spikes of 3000 ping, but this is more due to a connection error as all internet access suffers not just dota. 500 ping dota 2

My internet is fine outside of dota, no problems at all that I can think of.

When you click on the select server option in dota, how do the pings look for the regions you are queneing for?

It says unknown most of the time and sometimes it says a number between 150-450 but usually it is 250.

hhm haven’t played since beta, but i don’t recall Fayde being imba. Fayde dota 2 y nerf?

Also, xFin is a no name pubstar clan? That’s news to me.

Correct me if I’m wrong it’s been a while but this is how it basically went.

>Fayde releases .
>HoN goes open Beta for a couple week, then retail.
>Fayde receives a lot of negative feedback, the community judge her worthless so she goes through a complete rework (some months after, somewhere around May or June) people get a grasp of her new playstyle which is jungler killer / ganker.
>Fayde Becomes a decent insta-gibber and excellent pubstomper (invis).

She gets toned-down a little bit after and they get rid of her extra illusion on ult and reduced radius and mana burn on her scythe/shadow stances, players lose interest for Fayde and she ends up being left out in the dust along with Zephyr, Gauntlet and friends

i actually prefered the community of elitists who knew how to play over the lol community which is all idiotic, and i know you will stay here playing league because if you even attempted to play dota you would do so **** and get called **** that it would be degrading ( because you didnt load up single player and do a bit of research before you dived in , ie : basic math )

tldr : leave dota to the people with innate ability

Correct me if I’m wrong it’s been a while but this is how it basically went.

IIRC the nerf came before that game.

(June 9th for the replay)

Unless they decided to nerf again for some weird reason (I haven’t played since beta)

And the Fayde I played was the Fayde that is still here . I don’t see any new “reworks” or anything drastic like that. I just read her spell descriptions, they’re the same o.0

This is incoherent so I don’t know what you’re saying.

If you’re saying “why wouldn’t people from LOL play dota right now instead of waiting for dota 2,” it’s because DOTA is a WC3 custom game, and as such has an incredibly frustrating custom game system. It’s simply much easier to jump into games, and find a quality game in LOL than in DOTA (unless you want to take the time to find teammates or make pugs for scrims etc). That’s why I play LOL over Dota, but I will probably switch to Dota 2 (or play both) once it is out.

The fact that DOTA was able to not only survive, but thrive under WC3’s custom game system is a serious testament to just how darn good the game/genre is.

Her E was an evade/dodge active (pre-rework) it later got changed to a “Stance mode” where you can make your Q – aoe stun or aoe mana burn and W – line stun or line mana burn, depending on the situation this was quite useful, QW remained unchanged from the beginning the numbers simply got toned-down after a while.

R spawned an illusion and made you go stealth for 40-60s but good players took advantage of that illusion for scouting, auto-farming the lane or baiting their prey into unloading their nukes unto the illusion then proceed to insta-gib/codex the guy down, combined with a Geo’s Bane this hero was annoying as ****, so people cried and the illusion got removed.

Now I havent played a lot since the Kraken rework (which is about 2-3 months ago) they might have snuck a patch through though.

Bottom line is Fayde does nothing that another hero might be able to do better, stronger and faster. her skillset revolves too much around her invis, which is hard-countered by an Eye.

Been playing HoN actively since early beta, over 1000+ games, not sure who you’re calling fanboy here.

Fact is, people want more DotA ports and more DotAness to their game, and S2 can’t do that, cause now Valve’s got the license, you see 100 threads a day kids begging S2 to port techies and morphling , fixing map imbalances, sentinel/scourge ( mid gank/roshan placement) Hellbourne having the upper hand.

DotA heroes like Slardar / PotM / Pudge / Earthshaker / Tiny are top played in HoN, why? Because they’re ****ing awesome Deadwood is one of the few original S2 hero that’s viable in competitive play, then they come up with garbage like Chipper and Fayde.

People saw DotA 2.0 through HoN, but now they won’t get it, they’ve always wanted DotA, they will get it, and it’s gonna be awesome, I don’t know what S2 will have to pull off to keep their game running but, guess we’ll have to wait and see.

So autoban heroes suck huh? And we aren’t talking pub autoban – top team autoban. Chipper was the main of one of the top HoN players (Chu`), and he is what a skill intensive hero should look like. He was balanced and fun to play (hard to say of most of the new heroes in LoL).

Madman is a very strong S2 hero, one of the top carries and was a ban in competitive for some time. Maliken and Pandamonium were core to Fnatic. MSI’s trilane Str Carry strat, which kept them unbeatable until they got taken out by LOADed (eG).

Engineer, one of the strongest heroes in the games history. Nymphora, who opened up very powerful gank strategies with the mobility she provided. I could continue if you want.

New hero, Bombardier is pretty sweet too.

One of the most interesting things you hear/see whenever you watch competitive HoN is the hero diversity. An off the wall pick is made and one commentator asks another what their views are. They’re always really excited to see them and a win often comes out of a well made pick. I’ve seen rediculous teams get beaten down by a strategy that revolves around never before seen heroes in competitive, like Blood Hunter to counterpick Dr Repulsor, which crushed the enemy lineup.

The Top 10 Dota 2 Caster Calls

Though they aren’t on the front lines of competition, casters are an invaluable part of it. They explain storylines, give valuable context and occasional game knowledge and most of all, underline the emotion of the most powerful moments in Dota history.

10. It’s a Disasta!

Affectionately dubbed the “six million dollar Echo Slam,” Universe’s game-winning ulti secured TI5 — and $6,634,661 — for EG in a truly epic slam dunk of an Aegis steal.

Almost as famous as the actual play is Tobiwan’s extremely Australian pronouncement of CDEC’s situation.

9. No one has ever done that in the history of Dota!

Before they were known as Alliance, the No Tidehunter roster were already writing their names in the history books with a revolutionary Roshan bait at DreamHack Winter 2012.

Down a game in the best-of-three, NT took an early lead by faking a Level 1 Roshan. They left Admiralbulldog as a sacrificial lamb, then the Swedish soon-to-be legends drew EG into an ambush that netted them two kills and a strong lead.

In case anyone at home didn’t realize amazing this gambit was, Tobiwan made it exactly clear with a caster call that’s almost as famous as the Roshan bait itself.

8. Liqu >

Though neither team would go on to win TI3, the lower bracket slugfest between Team Liquid and LGD Gaming was a slugfest for the ages.

While TL led LGD by almost double the kills by the time the game ended, the final team fight over LGD’s Ancient was certifiably insane and the mania certainly infected the casters as they described the blow by blow action.

7. The whole kit and kaboodle

Tobiwan is one of the most popular casters in Dota and for good reason. Not only is the Australian’s bombastic excitement infectious, but he has a talent for describing plays with turns of phrase straight out of Little House on the Story. Or whatever Australian equivalent exists.

6. Ah Fu! You thief in the night!

Another case of Tobiwan’s Australian accent and folksy sayings creating a legendary moment, there were plenty of ways he could have described LFY’s Ah Fu stealing VP’s Roshan at TI7.

However, none of them would have been as funny as: “Ah Fu! You thief in the night!”

5. 200 minutes

The bout between Cloud9 and SFZ in Star Series Season 12 in 2013 remains the longest pro game in history at 3 hours, 20 minutes and 34 seconds. It was certainly more than ODPixel and Purge bargained for when they agreed to cast the event.

However, the duo took it in good stride despite getting discernibly haggard as the battle ground on… and on. and on. Eventually, OD enlisted the aid of a soundboard to play epic music to raise the energy whenever a team fight broke out.

But the excitement was real when Qwis Ta rushed C9’s Ancient at just over 200 minutes in and brought the ordeal to a close.

4. The Play

A call as legendary as the play it accompanies, one referred to solely as “The Play,” casters LD and Luminous did an excellent job breaking down one of the defining moments in all of Dota. Dota 2 caster llama meme

While Na`Vi only won Game 2 of the TI 2 Grand Final against Invictus Gaming, the wombo combo of Black Hole, Blade Fury and Dendi’s stolen Ravage is the true legacy of the tournament in no small part thanks to the casters’ shocked excitement.

Not to mention Dendi jumping out of his seat and yelling like he’d just won his second TI.

3. Ding Ding Ding Motherfucker

Some would say dirty humor is cheap comedy. However, sometimes a perfectly placed cuss can elevate a moment into the realm of legend. Just take the TI6 match between Alliance and Evil Geniuses where LD perfectly punctuated EGM’s last second destruction of EG’s ancient in just seven syllables.

2. WAOW

How does one condense all the action, all the drama, all the sheer emotion of Puck dodging an auto attack in a single weirdly pronounced exclamation of excitement? Just ask LD.

1. TI 3 Finish

The International 2013 was a special tournament. Not only was it the first TI with a crowdfunded prize pool, it was also the crowning achievement of Alliance’s freshman year in Dota. Dota 2 caster llama meme The legendary roster of Loda, s4, AdmiralBulldog, EGM and Akke had already won the DreamHack Invitational 2013 and Season 6 of the StarLadder StarSeries Season 6.

After going undefeated in the group stage and dropping only one game in the upper bracket of TI3, the young guns of Alliance faced off against TI 1 champions Na`Vi in a bitter, five-game match in the Grand Final.

It was a grueling epic, and the casters were at their best for every twist and turn right up until the bitter end. Just listen to the emotion as they crown the Kings of the North champions.

The name Old Invoker refers to the initial version of Invoker that existed from the time the hero was created in 6.10 until he was removed in 6.18. The two versions of Invoker share surface-level similarities, in that they both utilize three reagents to produce a spell when combined using the hero’s ultimate. However, for Old Invoker, the order in which his reagents were summoned is also used to determine which spell is invoked, giving him access to a full 27 spells compared to the current Invoker’s 10. For example, for Old Invoker, Quas Quas Wex and Quas Wex Quas would correspond with the spells Portal and Betrayal, respectively, whereas for the current Invoker, both would correspond with Ghost Walk.

Old Invoker was inspired by a Warcraft 3 map called “Spellcraft”. At the urging of the mapmaker Bug, who was involved with Dota’s development at the time, Guinsoo created Old Invoker with the intent to release the hero with patch 6.0. It is rumored that the daunting scope of the hero, however, bogged down development and in this sense was a contributing factor to Guinsoo’s departure. It was not until patch 6.10, when IceFrog was the lead developer, that Old Invoker would finally be released to the public, initially as a Radiant hero before being switched to Dire. After several patches and balance changes, Old Invoker was removed from Dota in patch 6.18 for a number of reasons, most notably due to his unwieldiness, engine-related bugs, and difficulty to balance.

Those interested in playing Old Invoker in Dota 2 can do so in the custom game Retro Dota. Dota 2 invoker refresher combo factory
